with a couple of flies and the thread broke by the hook. But, like you
said "memory". The ropes are still on my bench. Now I have tried another
technique.

You start with making a rope... and I mean a tight rope... and I mean
a very tight rope... and I mean a TOO tight rope. Then you cut that rope
from the bobbin and tie it in at the breaking point. Then you make another
one, lmost too tight. Now you have two ropes, one on the thread to your
bobbin and one hanging freely... and you can start your parallel weave!!
LOL

It's tricky but possible. And by having one of the strands(ropes)
connected to your bobbin, this is a parallel weave that you can practice
without having to cut the thread first... which became another one of those
"chills" I've been having. You can do this with other materials too... just
tried with antron and it worked like a charm. When the weaving was done, the
thread wasn't lying beside the vise, but it was in your hand, ready to be
wrapped around the antron strands. ;o)

        Cool fly. Better name.

        Also try this.
After you make your rope with the dubbing and hackle, compress it
towards the hook and re-tighten (like the shaping segment).  This works best
if you use monofilament for the core (or wire), and things get tight and
friction fights you.
You may have a 3" long rope that you can compress 30-50%, and it
will look way buggier, with better segments, and more dense.  It will also
feel more life-like to a fish.

You need professional help, my friend.

You are the one that missed the personal tutoring offer

But Noo, you had to get loaded up on root-beer floats

Rolling those thumbs is good exercise for the rope-dub.

AW: [VFB] DVD SE SN List Update

2009-11-12 Thread Thomas Eckert

I' ll need Euro Format too ...
Thomas

-Ursprüngliche Nachricht-

von Don Ordes
Gesendet: Donnerstag, 12. November 2009 23:46
An: vfb-mail@googlegroups.com
Betreff: [VFB] DVD SE SN List Update

Getting close to the end- I hope those who dropped off the list get back to
me in time.
When the Signed 1-50 DVD's are gone, there will only be standard serial #s
after that.
If you don't see your name and you want a signed DVD, get with me asap- my
friends here are finding out about it.

When I get my website upgraded, only those with SN's and logged-in ID's will

get into the special tutoring & pattern classes*. Those with SNs 1-50 will
get 1st pick of DVD#2 SE. If they get #2, then 1st crack at #3 SE, and so
on.

*If someone decides to boot-leg copies, without a serial #'s, they can't log

on. Then if I get two log-ons with the same Ser #, I know something's
fishy.
We have some copy-protection, but hackers can get by anything.
This is a small production, so if I'm not covering my expenses because of
pirates, I'll just
not bother with the rest of them.

I have the cover art done, and I just got a mail with the DVD label. If
everything is cool, we can head into manufacturing & shipping by next week.
I ordered a 100 DVD's to start with, my break-even expenses figure +/-.

What I'm told is that the producer can do the European format, but there is
zilch for copyright infringement protection. So what I'll do is just sell a

few to my buddy VFB'ers and do a virtual handshake agreement that they won't

let them be copied. If you need the euro, please let me know. Australia??

[VFB] DVD SE SN List Update

2009-11-12 Thread Don Ordes

Australia??

Mike,
I've created a DVD Order folder and am putting all emails of those
interested and of those ordering into it.

Like I mentioned before, VFB'ers get a 25%+/- discount. I'm waiting for
Jack Dennis to view the DVD and get his comments, one of which will be
pricing suggestions.

Since the rope-dub is a technique, not a pattern or recipe, the applications
will be literally for thousands of patterns, both old ones up-graded with
the rope-dub and new ones designed based on the rope-dub's capabilities.
The bottom line, of course, is fishability. With buggy-looking segmentation
and near bullet-proof durability, it's perfect for the flyfisher who wants
great fishing flies. The speed and ease will allow that same tier to tie 5
times as many flies in the same time. If you want to design new patterns,
it extends the realm of 'dubbung' 10-fold, allowing the use of materials for
dubbings and styles of dubbing that haven't been seen before.

[VFB] DVD is here

2009-04-16 Thread Allan Fish
Actually, if you read what Don said (bottom paragraph), it'll be in
the DVD. Don's put WAY too much work and creativity into this to be
giving it away. So do like me and buy one of his DVD's.

For those interested in the rope-dub dvd...

I got the initial proof/draft DVD for the video tying sequences from the
video-man. I stuck it in the TV and Cheryl
sat down to watch it with me. She was amazed. She's seen me demo-ing the
rope-dub for the last 8 years, but she said
the DVD was even better than seeing me tie in person (that's hard to believe,
since I'm so good-lookin'). She was also
amazed at how many tying techniques were included, telling me that I could make
3 DVDs with that much information. I
told her I was already working on DVD #2 and it had a lot more advanced
applications.

>From my standpoint it looked pretty good, but needs a lot more editing and
>photo inserts. How many tying sequences
are there? 24 that I counted, not including the talking and fly demo sections,
and it doesn't include the fishing
sequence up front or the credits and ad pages at the back. The rope-dub is so
quick, and I'm only tying the tail ends
(not the finished pattern), that the tying sequences don't take very long at
all.

There's a lot for someone to work on, but the tying sequences coupled with
various photos should allow pausing and
rewinding so that tough parts can be reviewed. Only problem I could see was
that my big 'ol ball-park frankfingers
were getting in the way all the time. We used 2 camera angles, so hopefully we
can get good views of all ties.

I cancelled my trip to Idaho this week-end because of the storm moving in-
supposed to be 2 to 4 feet of snow up in
the western mountains (Jackon/Wilson areas) so the passes may get closed (our
route). I'll have to wait for a later
date to meet up with Jack Dennis to review it with him.
