Jimmy,

Looks good to me. I know I fished 2 in TN during a FF@ Clave there
(Tenn X), but can only remember 1. The ones listed in PA are creeks
by name -- and I've fished some of them and the only RIVER I've
fished in PA isn't really considered much of a fly fishing river.

Re: [VFB] RIVERS WE'VE FISHED

2009-12-04 Thread Ed Roden
Bob and I still live in the area.

I have stepped foot in almost every part of Paint Creek as that is our home
river for Clinton Valley TU, and we have done alot to make it a top-notch
trout stream. Favorite areas are around Livernois and up off Clarkston Rd.

Clinton River has hold-over trout during the winter, and of course the
steelhead. I fish it around Adams Rd down to Livernois for trout and
smallmouth. For steelhead, I fish down at Ryan and 22 (where Coyote Joe's
bar and the park is) to get away from the heavy traffic at the Dam by Yates
Cider mill. I plan to fish downstream of the dam (found a few new put in
spots) this winter and spring.

Re: [VFB] RIVERS WE'VE FISHED

2009-12-03 Thread Tom Davenport
Rivers I've fished: Weber River, Ogden River, Logan River, Blacksmith Fork
River, Provo River, Beaver Creek, Green River, Calf Creek, Pine Valley Creek,
all in Utah. Oak Creek in AZ. The Yellowstone, Madison, Gibbon, and Firehole in
Yellowstone Park. An unnamed river in Honolulu (I caught a bass). The South
Fork of the Snake River, Little Bear River, Cub River, all in Idaho. The White
river and two others in Arkansas (one warmwater, the other a tributary of the
White) while at Sowbug, and finally a slow, brown river in the Maryland-DC area
with an indian name that I can't remember. I went out with my brother in his
boat to see wildlife and brought my fly rod and a sinking line along just for
laughs, I was shocked to catch a dozen catfish, the first ever on my fly rod.

I also remember getting corrected by someone, but I forgot what I
said that triggered the correction.

Poor Bennet only had ONE spring. I"ll try to remember that the next

2009-12-02 Thread Dan
Man;

A couple of you have fished in my old stomping grounds! In Michigan I have fly
fished the Au Sable, both above the generator plant and below it near Hale, the
Rifle River, Paint Creek, Clinton River, Stony Creek, Pere Marquette, and a
couple of others whose names escape me at the moment. I have also fly fished
the Sabine, Trinity, and Neches Rivers in Texas, and the Calcashieu River in
Louisiana.

Hey Bob and Ed. Where did you fish the Clinton River and Paint Creek? In
Rochester??? I grew up there. I caught my first trout in Paint Creek, where it
crosses 1st St near where Avon Tube used to be.

Re: [VFB] RIVERS WE'VE FISHED

2009-12-01 Thread Jack Lehman

I first held a fly rod in 1968, too many rivers, lakes, bays, and oceans
to count, and most of them salt or warm, but I'll list the highlights:

First: Severn River, Md (combat fishing, even back in 1969)
Prettiest: Animas River and Weinumuche Wilderness, SW Colorado (Wolves
howling in the twilight)
Favorite: Cache la Poudre, Colorado (Great access, too beautiful canyon)
Farthest: Kinzig River above Gelnhausen, FRG (Technically poaching, US
Army)
Most fish/best day: South Platte; Co (stacked up like fish in a barrel)
Last: Guadalupe: Tx (tailwater, close but no cigar)

Others in California, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Maine, North
Carolina, Arkansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Michigan, Illinois, Oklahoma

2009-12-01 Thread Don Ordes
Trout Rivers...I'll never remember them all, but I'll just list trout, not
brackish or saltwater.

N. Platte River- 7 major strectches between reservoirs in Wyoming alone*
Snake River- Again, many major stretches in Wyoming and Idaho
Yellowstone River- Wyoming and Montana
Countless small rivers and creeks in the mountains and valleys while hunting
the tributaries of Flathead Lake in NW Montana- North Fork, South Fork
Other rivers in NW Montana, mid Montana
Some Colorado Rivers and creeks- Gunnison was one.

Trout Lakes:
The entire Platte River drainage reservoirs- 4 major lakes*
Yellowstone Lake
Jackson Lake
Jenny Lake
The lake up at Devil's Tower
countless small lakes in mountains and valleys while hunting
The lakes around Mt. Rushmore area

Saltwater:

South Platte below Spinney Lake and below Eleven Mile Reservoir. (CO)
Big Thompson* (Co)
Little River (TN)
South Holston (TN)
Watauga (TN)
Ausable (MI)..my wife is convinced there are no trout in the stream.
Muskegon (MI) (A beautiful river to float)
Whitewater (IN)**

Asterisks on the Whitewater. There was an effort by the TU to get
catch & release regulations on the WHitewater in the town of
Brookville without selling it to the local people. The locals got
all up in arms about those "elitist snob fly fishers from
Indianapolis and Ohio" trying to mess up their river. A big group of
them spent several days(and nights) with corn and worms and
essentially cleaned all the trout out of the river. If anyone shows
up there in fly gear, they tend to be threatened with violence. NOT
a good scenario.
