Just curious, what OS are you running on?

I've actually found Miro to be very responsive not only on my intel
based macbook, but also on my G4 / 667mhz tibook. It's like 7 years
old. It plays videos every bit as good as VLC or QT.

Windows XP on AMD Duron 1 Ghz. CPU 512 MB RAM. On this machine, I
can't play ANYTHING in QT formats above 320 x 240 (Doing so just
simply results in freeze frame playback).

I have no experience with QT on XP. I would think it should work, but
maybe QT is slow on windows XP.

I do have some issue btw that there's NO throttling on downloads
   besides bittorrent.

It tends to suck up every available bit of bandwidth. That I find as a
major problem and it can make websites, especially videoblogs pretty
much un browseable on the side. It does not play nicely on the
   network.

 That's EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Although I'm not sure it's a
BitTorrent thing (I doubt it is).

No it's specifically NOT a bittorent thing. Miro has throttling on
bittorrent. They have no throttling on regular downloads. That is the
problem. It can use up your whole download pipe.

My only advice to them would be simplify, simplify, simplify and
polish polish polish on the UI.

Yeah, even if they have to open up the designing of skins to the open
 source community.

It's way more than skins. It's not an aesthetic issue so much as usability.

Between the visual clutter and the downloads hogging the network I
could see this being seen as heavy, but not to the point of bloatware.

Obviously you and I see things a little differently in this area.

I have not used Miro on windows. I suspect their could be some
problems with their use of windows QT. I have heard complaints about
apple's itunes and QT technology being bloated and unstable on
windows, but I thought they had resolved many of these issues on
   recent releases.

QT iTunes are both a *bit* slow in loading, but beyond that they
work for me without any problems.

My guess is the slowness is something inherent in QT. Can you play any
higher res videos in QT or iTunes then in Miro?

-Mike

Cheers :D

[videoblogging] Re: DVD duplicators and printers

2007-11-04 Thread bordercollieaustralianshepherd
This may be of interest to others
http://duplication.discmakers.com/action/ProjectDesignerView

Going for a retail ready DVD or CD as an example (no shipping and tax
included in price):
100 units
Full Color DVD
DVD Style
DVD Case Slip
Cellophane Wrap
1-day Rush = $5.51 each

Order a 1000 and you are around 3.40 each (add shipping and tax and
you get close to 4.00)

Still cheap for a one day turn around ... go with a 5 day turn around
and you are under 3.00 each for a DVD that is sale/promo ready. Loose
the shrink wrap and Cardboard slip case and the cost is under 2.30
each with tax and shipping.

Locally several people have set up duplication service ... nice idea
to support the locals ... may cost more, but you build a relationship
that might save you in the future.

Hi Schlomo--the problem is in the Feedburner feed. For recent
episodes, it is inserting the .flv version into the feed. Not sure
why, but since this version is not QuickTime compatible /
downloadable, neither the iTunes Store nor individual copies of iTunes
can see those episodes. Check the source feed, make sure the QuickTime

The main purpose of the festival is to connect with budding
film-makers, ask them to pick up a camera and tell a story. The main
criteria to judge a film would be the subject and its final impact on the
audience. Film-making is an expensive art form. But if films are shot on
digital cameras and edited on laptops, it would prove to be quite
inexpensive. And if they win, it would give them further confidence to
take their talent forward. - Anurag Kashyap

Finding a platform to exhibit one's work is often impossible, more so
when it is of a purely personal nature without any commercial value
whatsoever. PFC has literally 'come into the homes' of many aspiring film
makers, taking their work to the world. I am always excited when I go to
the movies and now movies are coming to me... - Pavan Kaul

I am expecting to see a lot of interesting concepts coming out in these
one minute films, a platform for the aspiring film maker in everyone and
the possibility of discovering some crazy kick ass stuff. I think
something like this sometimes results in tapping untapped creativity. Very
often people keep planning to make a small film... this kind of festival
gives this desire a push... and ultimately leading to spreading the desire
and want of good cinema. - Onir

passionforcinema.com went online in September 2006 as a community
website designed to bring together all movie fanatics, cinema lovers and
those who eat, breathe and drink cinema in one place to review and discuss
movies, movie related events, movie personalities, personal opinions, and
to share personal knowledge on technical aspects of the medium. It has
since grown to become an influential voice for the leading edge filmmakers
and directors in Indian cinema, as well as an important source of news,
editorial content, and movie reviews related to Indian and world cinema.
