2006-03-15 Thread Mrs. Ours MA PLPC
Actually I wasn't able to put it in just due to the sheer length of her
reactions to the original material but... She Loved it when you blew the
kiss and you went into color she thought it was Awesome (as mike at
Bliptv would say) Awesome, Awesome, Awesome, TOTALLY Awesome!

I wished I could have set up a camera angle that would have gotten the whole
thing both the vid and reactions but in order to keep it candid... I had to
hide the camera to one side or another.

Thanks again for your contribution!

I LOVED watching Maureen's face as she was watching the animated
portions... like Bullemhead. It was almost a sort of confused enjoyment.

I felt strange doing my segment for the mix... does Mrs. Show even
know who I am? Oh well, as long as she enjoys it, who cares...

Happy Birthday again, Maureen.

Re: [videoblogging] Re: Top Ten Vlogging Mistakes

2006-03-13 Thread Mrs. Ours MA PLPC
I've seen the group beat this poor ex-horse so many timesThis is one of
those topics that is so political that it can never be solved so all I'll
say is:

Every creative thing that has been done by anyone... has been done by
someone else before to greater or lesser extent. Our World Religions, our
Cultural Customs, the sociological makeup of World Society, our Music, our
written works, our art. All of it is built upon the utilization of previous
generations efforts. We all tap into the same creative universal brain soup.

Should a creator receive credit for what he does? Absolutely. Should he
reap the rewards of his creation? Of course. Should we use other people's
work without crediting it? Hell no, nor should we reap a financial reward
from it. Should we have to pay some ungodly fee for the use of said material
in a vlog that may have a circulation of 100 or less people? I think not.
Should we have to pay some kind of fee at all? H a better question
is... if we Had no choice but to pay for it... would we use it? Then comes
our moment of truth as to whether it is necessary... or... easy.

Are we ever going to agree on this? Goodness no... if we did we'd have
nothing to keep our blood warm during the cold winter months. Debate is
good for the soul.

The true peeve comes when people lose their ability to be civil to each
other in the process.

There is never a reason to be unkind to each other if we do not allow
ourselves to be emotionally invested in the matter open for debate.

Okay.. I'm done now... commencing to shutting up.

Thanks for the input!! I enjoyed working with the BW. It was a first for

Fabulous in gothic white and black *LOL*.
I am also working on learning more about sound mixing and noise

much better mixed while it was still in Adobe Premier. I'll keep working on

Re: [videoblogging] where do you watch?

2006-02-20 Thread Mrs. Ours MA PLPC
This is where I come out of the Lo-tech closet so to speak.

I still have a dial up connection with no hope in sight of a DSL/LAN/CABLE
Modem type luxury anytime in the next 6 months to a year. Having an ipod is
like trying to catch the moon in my hand.

So for me, I download things overnight generally and watch my downloads the
next evening at my computer as if I were tuning in to my weekly tv series.
I don't know if I'm in the freak-ish minority of technological advance or if
I am in fact in the end user majority but let's say I did have the
ability to posess an ipod... would I? Probably not... my eyes are older
than they used to be and watching anything that small gives me a migraine
so... I guess I'd still be watching either on my huge computer monitor or
hooking into my TV and watching it on the Big screen downstairs.

Cheers!

I almost exclusively watch on the video ipod now. I fill it up at

  1) my television
  2) the laundrymat

I watch on the TV (using the ipod cable) in the morning, on saturdays
and such.. while working on the computer or cooking... it just plays
in the background, now and then I actively watch, other times I just
  let it play ...

The only thing I hate is not having a URL to go leave a comment, so people,
PUT YOUR URL IN EACH POST!!!

I have to say, I'm much like Peter (his email copied below)

It's so convenient for my habits that watching with iPod on TV is my
preferred method.

When I'm on the computer, I'm doing other work, so I don't watch videos.

However, it's not background for me - I usually watch in the evening before
bed, when I used to veg out and watch TV.

The issue of including url's in videos is actually broader, in the sense
that, watching videos like this takes away the text blog context all
together. So, there are constraints on what videos will work.

a) Videos where all the necessary info, including some beginning and ending
thing that tells you whose video it is, including url for future reference
works best.

b) Of course, if your videos don't work on iPod then I can't watch them
this
way.

... certainly some would argue that this is bad because a unique thing
about video blogs is that they are contained in a blog, and also, I am
forcing the users to have to publish in a certain format with certain
constraints

... those are both reasonable points, and my main response would be that I
enjoy doing it this way, so that's how I do it ... also, the vast majority
of vlogs that I watched via the computer still meet these criteria

... the other thing for vloggers it that I think you will find, as more and
more people watch video on vlogs, more and more of them will not actually
be
vloggers, and more and more of them will just want to watch videos, because
this is what they're used to, and what they enjoy - my theory anyway - so,
if it's important that your videos be available for those people, then you
need to meet the criteria above; but you may not care, and that's fine too
... really

Too funny that Yahoo put my actual name in there. Ours is actually
my last name... and My Degree is an MA (I always put it in behind my name

just like dear old dad, but it does read like I'm an obsessed soccer mom
(nothing personal to any Obsessed Soccer mom's out there ;-)

I've been told the Sony MiniDv's have great surround sound Via our pal Paul

What is this Shotgun mic you speak of?
Also... warnings have been made about a certain type of 8 cartridge or such?
Do I really need to worry about it at this time or should I just get the

  case for a refund??

These aren't the iPods you're looking for...

That's no moon, it's a lawnmower!

You should sell it on ebay and let the winner have an ad at the end of
your videoblog posts for a week, then buy a video-capable iPod and mount
it on your lawnmower so you can watch videoblogs while cutting the grass.

May the vlog be with you.

RE: [videoblogging] Re: Predictable cam corder question

2006-02-03 Thread Mrs. Ours MA PLPC

Okay, so... where does a gal with an extremely limited budget go to get what
she needs for less than 700.00 including carrying case, tripod, memory
upgrade?

I have an embarassing wealth of children and thus an embarassing lack of
funds!!!

What's a newbie really require? I've got aspirations of course but I can
always upgrade if needed in a years time.

Thanks ever so,

Just say no to Digital 8. It's a dying format. Go miniDV, or
something that can record to a card.

Re: [videoblogging] How about a huge collaboriation.

2006-01-30 Thread Mrs. Ours MA PLPC
Hang on now, can we come up with an alternative that will still allow this
to happen? It's nice concept after all.
How about talking to some of our Vloggers who are also musicians? Couldn't
we write a song of our own? or something like that... Anyway... Just a
thought... ya know? Like Sing along with the vloggers

this venture, maybe we could get some money for a charity from it, if
anybody knows how? All you will have to do is sing a line, then fall
over at the end, two shots, we can use spinxpress to get the clips to
me for mashing and mixing. I am hoping for some A-list names and some

RE: [videoblogging] Re: legal rights of copyrighted material

2006-01-19 Thread Mrs. Ours MA PLPC
Wow,
I guess this is my first Two cents post...

My humble opinion is simply this: I will post my itty bitty vlog on the big
world wide web... I will give credit where credit is due at all times
providing URL's, Artist names, and core information. I will not say I wrote
this! or I made This! if I didn't and will say who did whenever humanly
possible. I will also not charge people money of any kind to access or
utilize my material or the material I share with others via my
vlog/blog/Insert favorite form of media sharing mode here. Although I won't
use Metallica stuff... (sorry bad cheap shot at Lars there). If some famous
person wants to come and take what wealth I have they're welcome to the
beatup 68 chevy and the four kids it's all the wealth in the world I
have.

I believe unless the big guys just get a wild hair and wanna crucify some
poor mid-western housewife and mother of fourI'm probably safe enough
being honestly dishonest?

Okay.. That's all I got

Republish on the net...so every can see it. But yet its mainly for
Friends and Family

is that breaking any laws?

I mean its my CD so why can't i put MY pictures to music and share
it with people??

The answer: no one knows yet.
The laws regarding use of copyrighted works were written to be
intentionally vague. The plan was for the law to have a large grey area
so a judge could decide on a case-by-case basis what's right and what's
not. The world has changed a lot, very quickly, however, and this new
world we live in is, well, new! What does it mean for a ''regular
person to make a movie using protected work and put it on the internet
for a handful people to see?? I don't think a case like that has ever
come before a court for a decision, and since the laws passed by
legislators and previous court cases don't deal with this issue, then
there is no law about it yet.

Meanwhile not only has the internet changed broadcasting, and computers
have broken-down barriers to entry to creating films and media... but
also corporations have taken over more and more, buying up the rights
  to more and more.

Really I think there are two issues here:
  what is legal, and
  what is respectful.

I see no need to respect the copyright on Happy Birthday (which was
owned by AOL/Time Warner... who's got it now?) If you are making a
feature film to distribute in theaters, you have to buy the rights to
use the song -- and it's incredibly expensive. The song was written in
1893 by Mildred and Patty Hill, with different words, and so the
artists are long gone. AOL Time Warner is just using the legal system
and their power to make as much money as possible without regard to
what the song means to us as a culture. So... if I get together with
friends and sing happy birthday in a restaurant, I'm not going to worry
about paying a fee for a public performance of a song. That's totally
ridiculous. If we videotape the moment, and I post it to my videoblog,
I am also not going to worry about it. Of course, I don't want the
wrath of AOL Time Warner lawyers upon me... I make less than $20k a
year, how in the world could I afford to defend myself in a lawsuit
BUT A HA! I am not alone. I'm sure if I got a seizt and desist letter
from AOL, I could contact American University and all these non-profits
working on fair use and they would jump on the case, donating their
services and taking care of the thing for me. It would be a great case
to see happen, and could mean breaking the hold of these ridiculous
  money-grabbers!!

Meanwhile, at the same time, there are many examples where it's grey as
to whether or not I have to get permission to use someone else's
work, but I decide I want to, because it's the right thing to do --
it's the respectful thing to do. I can use my own judgment, and not
worry about the law. If a local band is selling their first album,
it's great exposure for them if I use their song in my videoblog. I'd
make sure I credit them, and link to their band website where people
can find out where they are playing and buy their album. If I knew
them, I'd probably let them know / ask them if it's okay. But for me,
if I didn't know them and didn't have time / felt too shy to find them,
