Thanks Mike. I'm using Blip.tv and I hope you guys succeed. We got
800+ viewings of our videos in less than 12 hours when we uploaded
our content to you guys within the last week. We're happy about that
because we want viewers for all our hard work. We're self-funded
too. More competitors for big media, more better.

2006-02-14 Thread davecircumnavigator
More news about Blip.tv and it's load carrying abilities:

The people at Blip sent me a very nice and encouraging email that I
gather was as a result of following this group's threads and reading
our posts. It's obvious from that correspondence that they care very
much about their service and performance.

In addition, my partner has been in touch with their
hosting/bandwidth provider about serving our own site and it's clear
from his correspondence with their hosting service that they are
working with blip and others to try to ammeliorate the bandwidth
challenges posed by our big media files.

hey Mike--

as many of us have always said...Blip is a good service.
So much so that I would pay for it.
you should really think charging a monthly fee for reliable service.
I dont know how anyone (youtube included) could ever be the free

Blip is a great service. To keep it sustainable, they are going to
have to sell themselves to someone w/deep pockets, charge users to use
it, let people advertise on their site, or something to get cash
flowing in. I just hope they'll be able to maintain their connection
w/their user base as well as they do now when they go down one of
these roads to sustainability. I have a lot of respect for the blip
people I've met. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

Hey guys,

Just so you know, we're working to get more capacity online and to
distribute our load more efficiently between our existing ISPs.

We should have some more progress in this direction today and
tommorrow, and more and more over the course of the next week. We've
experienced a great (and relatively unanticipated) surge in usage this
week.

We're growing very quickly, and it's hard to keep up with the demand
while we're self-funded, but we're doing it... and we'll keep doing
it. If you have trouble, please IM me on AIM as "mikehudack" or you

I'm not sure what the problem has been with them lately however as of
today, I am going to start to upload a copy of my videos to my own
host. Just to be sure, I'll stick a copy on my home server as well.

My home server may not have the best upload speed in the world but at
least there will still be a way for my visitors to view my videos.
