Does transcoding produce worse results than decoding? VLC has a feature that allows you to transcode to a raw format, but I'm really looking to preserve the integrity of the original file as much as possible, and if transcoding is just another compression scheme I'd like to stay away fro it. I just discovered, through VLC, that the video codec is mpgv (whereas the audio is mpga). it might although QT should be able to decode 3ivx on its own without requiring the 3ivx codec. How about this... open the file in QT, press Apple-i, and tell us what codec the video is.
