Hi Richard, sorry, haven't read the whole thread but if you are interested in posting flv files you can use my Video Blog Recorder on http://stars-of-the-web.net/shows/blogtalk . The only thing you need is a webcam and each posting comes with a code snippet to include the flv into your blog. I've been playing with using the flash previews built in to Veoh.
