2006-04-07 Thread Michael Sullivan

Thanks, dmitry for caring to communicate to those who are concerned here.I do feel that you failed to properly form relations with the sources of content inside of veoh.I also can understand the reasoning offered. that being a concern for bandwidth costs.
But if that much thought was put into preventing potentially large costs for content creators, then I am sure that a proper communication channel could have been setup between veoh the the content creators good old crm.
But that sentiment is quickly becoming yesterdays news. with your eager willingness to make all things right. So I want to personally say that I appreciate that and I hope to see/hear more of you and other Veoh reps moving forward.
So, yes first things first and get those attribution links added to any/all listings in the veoh system without need to claim (claiming is lame!) ;-)Cheers,sull

Re: [videoblogging] Veoh ** We are hearing you loud and clear

2006-04-07 Thread Anne Walk

Hi Dmitry,Thankyou for responding to the group.I have a few questions and comments about this whole situation.I simply cannot see how taking video without the maker's knowledge or consent, creating a series with it, linking back to your own site, using no attribution whatsoever and implicating them as members of your community is a compelling service for video producers.
I think it is, however, a compelling service to Veoh as it gives an artificial inflation of your numbers which, I'm sure, is quite helpful when looking for VC funding for your company. In your terms of service, you spell out your own copyright for the site. How would you feel about a company that decided it wanted to help you avoid the costs of running your site by sucking the content out of it and hosting it on their own site without your knowledge or consent. They could then drive your traffic to them, thereby saving you the costs associated with bandwidth. I'm sure that you wouldn't perceive it as helpful though, would you?
If you truly thought that what you were doing was helpful, you might have come in here before now and told us what a marvelous job you were doing helping us all and encouraging us to come claim our feeds. Instead, we find out accidentally and now you are here to tell us that it's for our own good and that you are helping us. Not cool. Not legal. Not helpful.
Sorry if this sounds harsh but this is serious business. On 4/7/06, dmitry_veoh [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Welcome, Dmitry.

I wanted all of you to know that I am reading these messages and hear
 you loud and clear.

I'm REALLY glad you're willing to come here and talk *with* us.

In fact, we did consider simply creating a
site where we would link to videoblogs, but felt that this may cause
 you to experience significant costs.

I can only speak for myself, but this is absolutely not a problem fro
me yet, and if it were to become one, Veoh has a service available
that I could use if I wanted to host my videos. My videos are hosted
on a porn server-- we have plenty of bandwidth. I prefer all my videos
to be downloaded directly from my site-- my own awstats program puts
it all in one place for me.

For those of you that will be attending VloggerCon 2006, you will have
a chance to meet a few of us there, as we are going to be sponsoring
the event, and will throw a party afterwards.

Excellent! I greatly look forward to meeting you!

I encourage you to give us the benefit of the doubt that we are the
good guys. We will do ANYTHING to prove that to you, really.

I believe that you are responsive and want to do the right thing.
That's important.

I doubt there are many of us who can honestly say we've absolutely
never done an infringing videoblog, though most of us have learned
better and have developed a better sense of these nuances.

I will personally make sure that anyone that wants their feed off of
our system gets a quick response to their wishes.

I *do* need to ask you to remove http://johnnyb.blip.tv from Veoh, if
you haven't already. It's copyrighted, not even CC license, and the
host of the show isn't here for me to discuss with him if it's okay
(and besides, I know the answer already).

[Feeling a bit better about having suggested Veoh as a hosting solution now.]
