[Videolib] Question about searching videos by geography
Hi All, Does anyone enable searching of your video collection by geography, and if so do you determine that by the country where the movie was made or where it's set? Or do you just rely on the 650/651/655 fields in MARC? Cheers, Matt __ Matt Ball Media and Collections Librarian Clemons Library University of Virginia mattb...@virginia.edu 434-924-3812 VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and distributors.
Re: [Videolib] Question about searching videos by geography
We put in subject headings into our records for geographic searching. For films made in another country, we use Foreign films - France, etc. If the film is set in a foreign country, we would create a subject heading, e.g. Midnight in Paris would have Paris (France) - Drama. For films set in the U.S., if we think the location is important to the film, we will add subject heading, e..g. Chicago (Ill.) - Drama. I hope this helps.
