Ok. I've also found I can fix it by doing :diffoff in the new tab, and :diffthis in the old tab. I can understand having to do :diffoff to change the foldcolumn and other diff settings that were derived from the first window. But I think the folding being screwed up in the original window is a

Doing vimdiff, then :tabe %, I find that the new window still has that left the foldcolumn, and the folding doesn't work in the original window where the file is diffed. It does work right if I open regular vim and do :tabe %, and then :diffsplit second_file. How can I make it the way I would
