Actually, I am feeling sure that with the SC 2020 you cannot tell Siri to stop
while it is active unless you’re using AirPod pros. This is because the
processing is not powerful enough to separate voice input from the sound

believe. I've never tried asking Siri to stop the music, but that would be
something that you could ask her.

Well, a two finger double tap will definitely stop music if you are in the
music app and VoiceOver is on. But incoming calls and facebook along with some
other apps will cause that gesture to do something else.
In any case, it sounds like you figured it out.

First the mute button doesn't have any effect on voiceover, so don't worry
about that. What I think must have happened is that your voiceover volume got
turned all the way down. As for why the home button won't press, I have no clue
about that. Maybe a call to apple accessibility?

A three finger double tap will turn on speech. If you're hearing the clicking
noises, it's only because speech is turned off.
