I don't want to tie up this list with repetitive thank you's but it was
extremely helpful for me to be able to send text messages to family and friends
who use Android phones. Getting that message failure notice was getting old.
I won't post any more on this particular subject unless some one
Richard or Sieghard or someone on this list told me about it a whie back.

My Mom and one of my sisters has an android phone and I have never had
any trouble sending them text messages. I'm with Verizon, and it is
unlimited text messages which is nice.

Enabling send as sms fixed the problem.
I wonder why Apple doesn’t have this turned on by default.
I’m sure glad it is now working right.
Many thanks for the directions.

If you double-tap SMS, it will turn on; it is a toggle. It won't prevent your
i-messages, only, as Richard says, will enable you to text to other phones.

What do yhou mean, regular messages, Esther? SMS simply enables texts more
diversity, as I understand it.

Yes, iMessages are unique to Apple, and so logically, SMS is regular text

That is a good example of how influential Apple has become.
Personally, since not everyone owns Apple products, I’d never turn off SMS, but
there are situations where
I know this doesn’t help, but I just found it interesting that someone thinks
of iMsgs as regular text messages, as opposed to SMS which are ubiquitous and
have been around longer then Apple’s proprietary messaging service.

hi, Richard, the weird thing is, I did go into settings and SMS messaging is
turned off so I don't know what the deal is here. Maybe it'll disappear after
30 days. I'm hoping that's the case. Thank you for your help. Esther

If you do not want to send as SMS, i.e. never send a text to an Android user,
go to settings, messages, and turn off send as SMS.
So, you will only be able to send iMessages between Apple device users.
If you ever want to send pictures or audio files, you need to still turn on
send as MMS.
hi, everyone, is there a way to disable SMS messages on an iPhone? I just want
to send regular messages. Any help would be appreciated. Esther

Next swipe until you find send as sms and then double tap to turn on this
setting.

Hi all,
I have sent several messages to a friend who uses an Android phone by saying
to Ciri,
"send text to Jessica's mobil.
Then, I get a message failure notification. When I look, I discover that
Ciri sent an Eye Message instead of a text message.
