I just charge them periodically. For example one I have here was last charged
at Christmas and is still fully charged.

I have found any of the Anker batttery packs hold their charge well many of
them in excess of a year without use.
I would suggest buying a pack 1.5 times the MAH capacity of your iPhone. A USB
C type and correct cable will also fast charge your iPhone.
