You can only do an encrypted backup
You can only do an encrypted backup in iTunes and it backs up things like WiFi
and app passwords and so on. At this point I think an iCloud backup is almost
as good as an encrypted backup, but there might still be a few things the
encrypted backup includes, not sure.
Anyhow, in iTunes you just
Hello Keith,
It used to be true, but with its latest update, iTunes has stopped having an
app store, and even when you restore from an iTunes backup, the apps are
downloaded from the Internet rather than loaded from your computer. As a
result, restoring from a backup isn't likely to be much
Also, is it true that a restore from an iTunes backup is much faster and easier
than from an iCloud backup? This is a question, not a statement But this has
been my understanding, if someone can please confirm, I would appreciate
hearing if it's true. Keith

Backups have always confused me. If I do an ICloud backup on my phone or
mini IPAD, it does not give me the options to encrypt. Do I need to do it on
my computer and if so, how do I do it?

Hi,
Encrypted backups save your HealthKit and password data, while unencrypted ones
don't. iCloud backups also save this data, which they didn't used to do, so so
they are now equivalent. However, either an iCloud or encrypted backup is
better than an unencrypted backup.
Best,
Anna

Also, Johnathan Mosen in his ios 11 book says that nowadays there is little
advantage in iTunes encrypted backups compared with iCloud backups so long as
you use Keychain. Is this correct?

Hi Seighard,
Why is the encrypted part of your advice to make an encrypted backup important?
I have made backups before this using iTunes, but I've never seen how to be
sure they are encrypted, and don't know why (other than security) this may be
important?
Thanks,
Chip
