Hi, I believe this is a new bypass feature to make it easier to get to
those alternate characters. Before it was much more difficult reaching
those unless you were using standard typing. So, now really the only way
to avoid this is to not touch the same character for too long when you
are in
I wonder if a work around is possible such as slide your finger to the
bottom left-hand corner where you can change from characters to numbers.
That should quickly restore things.

Yes I find this a pain too, because you have to lift your finger up, and
then delete the character you didn't want.

to the return key without lifting it up when the alternative characters appear.

A split tap does the same as a double tap except that instead of lifting
your finger and then tapping twice quickly you leave your finger on the
screen and then tap the screen elsewhere with another finger. If, for
