RE: Putting files on memory card what needed and how

2020-07-01 Thread bentleyj1952
So. Are you saying that a USB thumb drive adaptor or an SD card adaptor
purchased from Apple will both have a place to plug in a lightning cable. And,
one can read from or write to both?

iPhones do not have the power to run any external card, which is why the
adapter has a lightning port to plug in the charging cable.

iPad pros have enough power to not need the AC adapter plugged in, though it's
not a bad idea if it is handy.

Yes, you can write to, and read from the memory card.

You could open them in Voice Dream Reader, or perhaps other apps, but the only

You could play them so long as the card is connected of course.

Or, save them in the files app and accessing them from there I believe.

I got it primarily for occasionally listening to something that is a large file

I recommend buying the adapter from Apple that matches the type of memory card
you have.

The below link is to the Apple store for one for SD cards, but at the bottom of
the page there are links to a USB adapter as well as others.

Since iOS 13, you can use these adapters for any files through the files app to
copy files to or from the card.

The descriptions only mention cameras, but it works with any files.

You have to plug your lightning power cord into the adapter, and the card, then
the adapter has a short cable that plugs into your phone lightning jack.

That way your phone is powered, otherwise the phone cannot copy files to and
from a card.

They are all around $39.

I'm glad that someone is telling everyone where the information is in your i

imei number, model number, even curret phone number. Actually write
downw this information in at least, more than one copy written on a

your apple devices from people that would steal them, you must make them
completely
useless if they do get stolen. however at this time this isn't the case. If
the ones
that steal the devices can't use them they can definitely sell them for
parts. But
if apple were to impliment my idea in future products, in the future, there
would
be no need to sell them for parts because all the device and all the parts
in it
would be bricked, and the only company that could do anything about it would
be apple.
At this time, with all current devices that isn't the case. In my opinion
this would
be complete security. Yeah, with your face id and your touch id and
password, they
may not be able to get into your phone, but they could still teer it up and
use it

for parts, such as your screen and other parts.

This is an interesting thread.

You can use iCloud to lock your phone and track it with the Find My App from
any device. You can simply log-in to https://icloud.com and lock the device
remotely and see it’s last location and when it was either connected to

Re: Recording apps

2020-07-01 Thread Richard Turner
There are not really any apps for that as Apple doesn't allow it.
There are some apps that use a conference line idea but that puts your call on
the cloud and I've not heard anything good about those.
If you could set up a Zoom meeting, you may be able to record the Zoom call.
Otherwise you would need to put the call on speaker and use a separate
recording device.

iPhones do not have the power to run any external card, which is why the
adapter has a lightning port to plug in the charging cable.
iPad pros have enough power to not need the AC adapter plugged in, though it's
not a bad idea if it is handy.
Yes, you can write to, and read from the memory card.

You have to plug your lightning power cord into the adapter, and the card, then
the adapter has a short cable that plugs into your phone lightning jac

reached to the time you are set the media willbe stop. For example: "Tunin

The Alarm portion of the Clock app can be set to use a song as the sound, but
you will have to hit the power button or home button if you have one, to turn
it off.
Though, it could be that at the end of a song it would just stop, I've never
let it go that far.

RE: Looking for a bluetooth headset

2020-07-01 Thread Richard Turner
The Aftershokz Aeropex bone conduction headphones can seamlessly switch between
devices.
They do not fit all people. They do come in two sizes, Mini for smaller people
and standard for larger people, though sadly, my head is a little to big for
them to be comfortable for more than about 30 minutes.
They sit just in front of your ears on the bone and use vibration instead of
standard speakers so your ears are open for the surrounding sounds.
The sound quality is OK, not great.
They are $159.99 from Amazon, and have about an 8 hour battery life.
I just tried them and am glad Amazon has an easy return policy because I sent
them back.
I have a woman coworker who has the Mini size and loves them.
I don't know if returns are as easily done where you live, but you have to buy
and try them to know if they can work.

If you are using touch typing mode, Touch and hold the alef for a couple of
seconds, You will hear voice over say, alternative characters available.
Without lifting your finger, slide to the left and you will get the Hamzas you
are looking for. When you hear the Hamza you want, lift your finger and it will
be typed. If you are using standard typing mode, Keep your finger on the alef
for two or three seconds in the second tap, and slide your finger to the left
after voice over says, alternative characters available.
If you need further help, do not hesitate to ask. I use Arabic frequently on my
iPhone and iPad.

Subject: 'Hamza' on Arabic Keyboard of My iPhone?

Hi, list.
My question is about the Arabic keyboard in my iPhone.
I am new to Arabic typing. I am not a native speaker of Arabic but my First
Language, Urdu, is written with Arabic Alphabet.
May I know where to find glottal stop ‘hamza’ on my keyboard, please?
Thanks!

That is very interesting. I was in touch with someone from Apple South Africa.
He told me that apple devices like the iPod touch, apple watch and even iPads

Hello list
I live in South Africa and this afternoon I discovered that, to my greatest
surprise and disappointment, there are not batteries available here in SA for
any Apple products, except for iPhones. I need a battery for my iPod 6th Gen
and you might not understand but due to our terrible exchange rate it is not
just a matter of buying a new one. Therefor I ask for someone in the US,
someone in the UK and perhaps Australia and Canada to find out from their local
apple store if an iPod Touch 6th Gen battery is available there. I want to
establish if this is a world wide Apple policy or if it is just a problem here
in SA. Just Imagine, I purchased a new iPad Mini 5 last December. Say for
whatsoever reason the battery dies a few days after my warranty will elapse at
the end of the year then I have to fro this brand new product into the bin!
Kind regards
Fanus

Re: Timer question, I think

2020-07-01 Thread Richard Turner
OK, try this.
1. Start your music or radio station playing.
Go to the timer tab in the clock app and set it for 60 minutes, and double tap
on the sound. The last option for sound, is "stop playing.
That should solve that step.
2. set an alarm for whatever time you want, and for the sound, select play
song and pick your song from your library.

To turn on mail notifications, first go to settings. Next go to notifications.
Next select mail. Next select allow on lock screen to make mail notifications
to show up on the lock screen. You can also select allow in Notification Center
if you want the notifications to show up in Notification Center.

Re: Friendly favour

2020-07-01 Thread Kelly Pierce
I am in Chicago and there is a store a couple of blocks from me that
replaces batteries and cracked screens on all i devices. the repair
guys have special tools to open them up and repair the devices,
enabling them to be used for much longer. Apple guys want to sell you
new hardware always. Speak to a third party repair guy who only gets
paid when he can solve your problem. I can't believe there are none
in south Africa. Realize the Corona virus has stopped or slowed
manufacturing in Asia and replacement batteries are likely not on the
top of the list for inventory restock.

RE: No notifications for Gmail, and also at icon no information.

2020-07-01 Thread Carolyn
I've done that and also gone to mail. Apple Accessibility ran diagnostics and
is sending the problem to Engineering. I should receive a call in a few days,
or, I'm thinking, more likely, an email.

I have done every kind of trouble shooting short of a reset, and I do not want
notifications that bad, can just check periodically.

To turn on mail notifications, first go to settings. Next go to notifications.
Next select mail. Next select allow on lock screen to make mail notifications
to show up on the lock screen. You can also select allow in Notification Center
if you want the notifications to show up in Notification Center.

Re: Thinking of getting airpods and wondering what the differences are between the versions

2020-07-01 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi,
I have the same question about EarPods too. I would like to know what the
difference is between the regular and pro version.
My iphone doesn’t support the standard 3.5 headphones anymore, and only my iPad
does at the moment.
I intend to use them for zoom conferences, and when i go out, if i do anyway
because of this pandemic.

Thank yo, and hope all is well,

Priscilla

Re: Thinking of getting airpods and wondering what the differences are between the versions

2020-07-01 Thread Pete Nalda
The AirPod pro model have 2 modes, ambience, which enhance outside noises, and
noise cancellation mode, which filter out ambient noises, like motors, traffic,
and generator noises. Note it’s better Toruń off cancellation mode when on a
call, as it will block the microphone. The Pro also have rubber tips, and are
shaped a bit differently. Thus the case is horizontally longer. The AirPod Pro
are about $100 more than the AirPods

RE: Thinking of getting airpods and wondering what the differences are between the versions

2020-07-01 Thread chaltain
The Airpod Pros will be more expensive, about $100 more the last time I looked
a few months ago. The Airpods look like wired ear buds without the cables, so
there's no noise cancellation, active or passive. The Airpod Pros have the
silicon tips that fit into your ear, so they do have passive noise
cancellation. They also have active noise cancellation, as well as a
transparency mode, which picks up environmental sounds through the microphones
and transmits it through the Airpod Pros. Based on feedback I got from this
list, I went with the Airpod Pros myself, and I don't regret it. I had coupons
and gift cards to burn though, so I'm not sure I would have made the same
choice if I were talking about my own money. Bottom line for me is that if you
can afford them go with the Pros, but if price is a consideration, you might
want to go with the Airpods instead.

RE: Thinking of getting airpods and wondering what the differences are between the versions

2020-07-01 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND
This sums it up nicely.

I just wanted to add that I had gotten the original airpods before the new ones
came out, and I have been perfectly happy with them. The newer ones do have
some good features, but I have no complaints about the ones I have and I use
them a lot, although I have not tried them for conference calls.

Hi Janet,

If it is the former, you need to be unlocked to read the battery level.
If it is the latter try a re-boot, sometimes these widgets misfunction

Question re Apple Home Pod

2020-07-01 Thread magpie.mn
Is there a way to control the Sonos speakers with the Home Pod? For example.
Can I ask the HP to play something on the Sonos speakers? I have several of
the Sonos speakers and love them and it would justify the high price of the
Home Pod if this function was available.
