But the important question is,

Does it keep the wine at the correct temperature?

Hello all,

In full disclosure, that is where our wine rack is kept.

I’ve wanted a thermometer to put down there but did not want a talking one, but
one that worked with an app.

So, my wife got busy shopping on Amazon.

She came across one called the govee Thermometer and humidity sensor… for
$15.99.

Govee is spelled g o v e e.

It arrived today. The set up was done by my sighted wife but perhaps if we’d
made sure the batteries were connected correctly, it would have just shown up
for me, but who knows.

IN any case, the app seems fully accessible.

I’ll list all the details about it below. I did not set up an account, as all
I want to know is the temperature and humidity.

I may set up an account to keep track of the data over time, but for the first
day I just wanted to know it works.

It does.

We have roughly a 1300 square foot house.

The basement is concrete and open to the crawl space under the house which is
why we finally got it insulated, etc.

The basement is under the front half of the house.

Being Bluetooth, I wasn’t sure it would work through the floor, but it works
just fine.

It’s a sunny day here and when it was first turned on after being in the
delivery truck, it read about 82 degrees, and 37 % humidity., bout 20 degrees
warmer than it is outside today.

IN about 45 minutes in the basement it reads: 60.6 degrees and 50.7 % humidity.
The temp is gradually dropping and the humidity raising, but I suspect they
are near their final readings.

It depends on the state in which your friend lives, whether medicaid will pay.
It is also going to depend on whether your friend meets the medical necessity
requirements set by medicaid, in the state in which your friend lives, to cover
the cost of any CGM.

RE: indoor navigation do-it-yourself?

2021-04-12 Thread R Van Lant
I agree that Nivilens is meant for this. You can print off your own set labels
or contact them about having your building labelled. I listened to an Eyes on
success podcast that interviewed a teacher at a school for the blind where the
students labelled many aspects of the building.

There has been a lot of talk about indoor navigation. I’m not optimistic about
this, but just in case: Is there an app or procedure I can use to label offices
and other locations in my serpentine medical building so I can navigate to them
independently the next time?

RE: Glucose monitor?

2021-04-12 Thread Simon A Fogarty
You don't need this

The libre view is the thing they use to share readings with doctors or persons
of interest to you.

The libre look or view app is something you can have on another phone and be
able to check out peoples test results if they share with you.

Hi. One additional item which has not been mentioned here yet. I use the
Freestyle Libre as well. There is an additional Freestyle app called the Libre
Lookup. With some doing through the regular Freestyle Libre app, one can
automatically share their scan results with a family member. I say with some
doing because I had to look up how to do it. I downloaded the Lookup app,
thinking I would set it up through there. In reality, you go through the
regular Freestyle Libre app and it's share functions to share the results. I've
talked with my sighted wife about this, and she reports that the results show
up on her phone as a notification, before they appear on my phone in the scan
results.
I did a scan while she was at church, and she wrote back within seconds of me
finishing the scan, and suggested I get some candy.
Though the Freestyle is super user friendly and convenient, I will also be
investing in the new Apple Watch this fall if indeed it has blood glucose
monitoring capabilities. I love my current Series 6 watch, but being able to
scan my sugars from my wrist seems like the best option.

Best,
Wayne Merritt

I’ve been posting questions on Amazon and getting answers and here’s what I’ve
learned so far.

1. When you place the phone into the case and plug it in with the USB C
cable, it charges the phone to capacity first and then the case.
2. If you use the phone unplugged and in the case and in charging mode, it
will continue to charge the phone until the case is exhausted.
3. It seems that the case is to be used as a power bank back-up to the
phone and not a smart battery case as the iphone 7 apple case would be used.
You use the phone with the case’s charging mode turned off by double-tapping
the back case button and single-tapping it when the phone needs to be
re-charged. The apple 7 apple smart case fits the SE and will I Believe use the
phone’s power first and then the cases.
4. When you plug the phone/case combination into a port with the USB C
Cable, the phone charges first and then the case. I believe the charging ceases
when both have reached capacity.
5. One person thought the induction or magnetic charging for the phone was
considerably slower than plugging the phone into a lightning cable and charger
but this wasn’t universally thought. Some thought the charging process was very
quick.

That’s all I know. I may go back to the apple 7 smart case because its use
seems more seamless.

Alternative indoor bluetooth thermometer

2021-04-12 Thread Richard Turner
Hello all,

We have a basement, that was recently well insulated and cleaned.

In full disclosure, that is where our wine rack is kept.

I've wanted a thermometer to put down there but did not want a talking one, but
one that worked with an app.

So, my wife got busy shopping on Amazon.

She came across one called the govee Thermometer and humidity sensor... for
$15.99.
Govee is spelled g o v e e.

It arrived today. The set up was done by my sighted wife but perhaps if we'd
made sure the batteries were connected correctly, it would have just shown up
for me, but who knows.
IN any case, the app seems fully accessible.
I'll list all the details about it below.

Being Bluetooth, I wasn't sure it would work through the floor, but it works
just fine.
It's a sunny day here and when it was first turned on after being in the
delivery truck, it read about 82 degrees, and 37 % humidity., bout 20 degrees
warmer than it is outside today.
IN about 45 minutes in the basement it reads: 60.6 degrees and 50.7 % humidity.
The temp is gradually dropping and the humidity raising, but I suspect they
are near their final readings.

Here is the full name at Amazon followed by the link:

Re: How to delete an ap from my IPHONE

2021-04-12 Thread Brad Snyder
To delete an app from your iPhone, do the following:

1. Locate the app you would like to delete, and select it by doing a 1-finger
touch.
2. Set your rotor to Actions, and swipe up until you hear VoiceOver say “Edit
Mode”.
3. Now, do a 1-finger double-tap, and you will hear VoiceOver say “Started
Editing”.
4. Swipe up until you hear VoiceOver say “Activate”, and do a 1-finger
double-tap.
5. VoiceOver will now ask if you want to Delete the app, or remove it from the
Home screen. If you choose Delete, the app will be deleted from your device.
If you choose Remove from Home Screen, the app will remain of your device, and
will reside in the App Library.
6. If you choose Delete, you will be asked once again to confirm this is
really what you want to do.

HTH..

Re: Can You Transfer Email to Dropbox?

2021-04-12 Thread Brad Snyder
If your email is setup using IMAP on your current device, you will lose
nothing, because all your email is on your provider’s servers, and not on your
device. Once you setup your email on the new iPhone, everything should be
there. just as it is on your current device.

Re: Can You Transfer Email to Dropbox?

2021-04-12 Thread Brad Snyder
Depending on which email client you are using, you can highlight the mail item
in the mailbox list, and open the applications menu, where you should find an
option to do a Save As. Then you can give the file a name of your choosing and
decide on a folder where you want to save the file.

Alternatively, you could also begin a Reply message, then select the contents
of the message using CTRL + A, then copy the selected text using CTRL + C..
Once copied to the clipboard, you can then paste the contents of the message
into the text editor of your choice, and then save the file for future
reference.

Re: Can You Transfer Email to Dropbox?

2021-04-12 Thread Shirley Baker
Let me explain. I saved several email messages in a folder called iPhone, ETc.
But I am getting an SE20 iPhone and so once I set my email up again, I assume I
would lose any saved email I have now. I have a lot and it would be very
time-consuming to try to make notes in Braille of each one. This is why I asked
this question.

This is true. If you need continuous monitoring the Dexcom is the better
choice.

Also please note that the freestyle libre link is not a full CGM device,

Until they make it a Bluetooth enabled and syncing device to the phone / app
with Bluetooth

It's not actually a CGM.

Larry, in my case, yes. The requirements were- Had to be diagnosed at least
1 year, had to test glucose levels 4 or more times per day & had to be
taking insulin. Insurance plans differ, each persons situation is different
& some peoples doctor is willing to help the patient get the needed device,
while others doctor is lazy. So obtaining a CGM is on a case by case basis.
Obtaining a CGM through state medicaid seems to be easier than private
insurances.

Donna

I know in the past insurance companies would not pay for the Freestyle
Libre unless you were using insulin. Do you all know if this is still
true?

Hello Ann and all,
I recently started using the Freestyle Libre 14 day system product from
Abbott. I highly recommend this product. I downloaded the Libre link app
on my iPhone. The app is easy to use. You do not need to buy the reader
unless you want a sighted person to look at your readings. I use my iPhone
to monitor all of my data.
I recently got my insurance company to purchase my sensors. I have a small
co-pay.

Here is a link that can get you started:

I hope this information is helpful to you.

RE: Drive Blind

2021-04-12 Thread Johna Gravitt
Reminds me of a story from visiting my husband's family in Virginia. It was
around Christmas a few years ago and I was wearing a t-shirt that said "member
of the blind riffle association" so we got the bright idea to take a picture of
me holding one of my husband's uncle's rifles. Needless to say after it was
posting on Facebook for all to see many of my family members were wondering if
I had a gun and why lol. Then there was the time I was dating a guy who loved
to hunt and thought it would be a great idea to have me shoot his gun. Now,
just to set the story for you all, I am completely blind and had never shot a
gun, so he got me all set and aimed towards a tree and told me to shoot. I
did, apparently the look on my face was priceless!

RE: Can You Transfer Email to Drop box?

So I don't guess you could copy an entire folder and save it to drop box? By
saving them as an html file, I would have to do them all individually?

emails on the iPhone 8

2021-04-12 Thread Albert Brown
Hello,
A friend is enquiring why he has so much verbosity when typing on his iPhone
8.

For example when he swipes to the various fields such as subject field CC
field to field it keeps announcing the various fields. It seems to much
verbosity.

I hope I am explaining myself.

Re: Glucose monitor?

2021-04-12 Thread Wayne Merritt
Hi. One additional item which has not been mentioned here yet. I use
the Freestyle Libre as well. There is an additional Freestyle app
called the Libre Lookup. With some doing through the regular Freestyle
Libre app, one can automatically share their scan results with a
family member. I say with some doing because I had to look up how to
do it. I downloaded the Lookup app, thinking I would set it up through
there. In reality, you go through the regular Freestyle Libre app and
it's share functions to share the results. I've talked with my sighted
wife about this, and she reports that the results show up on her phone
as a notification, before they appear on my phone in the scan results.
I did a scan while she was at church, and she wrote back within
seconds of me finishing the scan, and suggested I get some candy.
Though the Freestyle is super user friendly and convenient, I will
also be investing in the new Apple Watch this fall if indeed it has
blood glucose monitoring capabilities. I love my current Series 6
watch, but being able to scan my sugars from my wrist seems like the
best option.

Best,
Wayne Merritt

RE: audible app starting while moving email

2021-04-12 Thread Richard Turner
As for moving multiple messages, hit edit at the top of the spam folder.
Each message you double tap on will say selected.
After you have selected all of them you want, double tap on move and select the
folder you want.

As for Audible playing, that either means you are double tapping on an Audible
compatible file, or you are accidentally doing a two finger double tap which
starts the last audio you were playing, or video for that matter.

Subject: audible app starting while moving email

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help with this.
I have a bunch of email to move from my spam folder to the inbox. I'm using the
latest ios version and the native email app.
First is there any means to move multiple messages at one time?
Frequently when I double tap on more so I can select move, instead the audible
app starts playing one of my files. This occurs even when the app is not in the
app switcher. Usually at some point while double tapping on more again audible
will turn off. Otherwise I have to go and open the audible app then close it to
make it stop.
So, any thoughts on how I can stop this from happening, is this just clumsy
flicking or an actual error issue.
Thanks for any help.
Tessa

Also please note that the freestyle libre link is not a full CGM device,

Until they make it a Bluetooth enabled and syncing device to the phone / app
with Bluetooth
It's not actually a CGM.

Larry, in my case, yes. The requirements were- Had to be diagnosed at least 1
year, had to test glucose levels 4 or more times per day & had to be taking
insulin. Insurance plans differ, each persons situation is different & some
peoples doctor is willing to help the patient get the needed device, while
others doctor is lazy. So obtaining a CGM is on a case by case basis. Obtaining
a CGM through state medicaid seems to be easier than private insurances.

RE: Glucose monitor?

2021-04-12 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Andy

Probably something you guys need in the USA etc,

But the libre freestyle is that,

A very usable product that can help a blind diabetic keep track of testing
results
Keep dietary and insulin dosages recorded
Compare test results over time periods
And let doctors etc view test results of the users account through the sharing
in the libre app,

These are things that for me prior to moving on to this product
I wasn't testing as much as I do now,
I can keep better track of how I'm feeling and reacting with regards to results

It's a fully accessible system and I wont go out of my way to change it from
what it currently is.

Our physician is very supportive and advocated based on the fact that both the
patient and her husband are visually impaired and would have difficulty testing
using another method.

It can be done if you are a determined self advocate with a supportive
physician.

Obtaining a CGM through state medicaid seems to be easier than private
insurances.

RE: Drive Blind

2021-04-12 Thread mhutchings152730
Hay, Back before the Lake Geneva Raceway in Wisconsin US was closed, the Lions
Clubs would let blind folks drive in the BOLD races during intermission on
their regular race nights. We would have a sighted navigator that would where
white gloves and give verbal instructions to get us around the track like,
“Left, more left, hard left.” This was such a rush.Love in Christ

I didn’t think it was used these days.

I have actually driven at car at Brand’s Hatch, a racing course in England – I
think at abut 40 miles an hour with a sighted driver beside me who had dual
controls. I did manage not to crash the car, which is more than I can say when
playing Blind Drive!

I’ve driven a car with my father in the passenger seat directing,

I feel my having driven prior to going blind was a benefit

Re: Glucose monitor?

2021-04-12 Thread Ari Moisio

Hi

My wife has used Libre2 with IOs app at least two months. However the
sensor lifetime is still two weeks, at least here in Finland.

The alerts are quite unreliable and the connection is often lost.

I can vouch, as my wife uses that system. She can see well enough to tuse the

There is now a Libre 2 which has additional features, such as various alarms,
and also a 21 day sensor, but as of now she uses the 14 day sensor.

Hello Ann and all,
I recently started using the Freestyle Libre 14 day system product from Abbott.
I highly recommend this product. I downloaded the Libre link app on my iPhone.
The app is easy to use. You do not need to buy the reader unless you want a
sighted person to look at your readings. I use my iPhone to monitor all of my
data.
I recently got my insurance company to purchase my sensors. I have a small
co-pay.
Here is a link that can get you started:
