That is pretty cool about Canada, wish we had it together like that

2017-07-09 Thread Janet Bell
Morning all on the subject of apple pay and paying with a debit card using your
iPhone please can someone tell me how you go about putting the details of your
card on your iPhone so that if you buy something that is more than you are
allowed on applepay you can use your debit card without having to get someone
to tell you the number. if this is possible I would love to know

It’s also a problem of the financial and payment processor system in general.

Here in Canada we only got Apple Pay over a year after it was announced and
almost immediately you could pay virtually everywhere with it. This is mostly
because our banks/card processors moved to chip cards years ago, you don’t sign
any more but just as with a debit card from your bank you insert the card into
the reader/terminal/PinPad and enter a 4-digit PIN. The next step was
contactless payments, usually if the transaction is less than $100 all you have
to do is tap your card to the terminal/PinPad, no need to enter a PIN or sign
and even though anybody who would steel your card could use it this way you are
protected as long as you report it stolen.

Most merchants already had contactless terminals/PinPads When Apple Pay finally
came and in the beginning it was more of an issue whether your bank/credit card
already supported it. For a few months it was only America Express, then some
of the major banks/card processors signed on and by now almost all do. There
are a few very small stores who still don’t have contactless terminals and here
you still have to insert your card and enter your PIN, but it’s very rare, I
doubt it’s more than 5% of all merchants, certainly not more than 10%.

Hi Mike,

1.. You setup the Wallet app so that your credit card is used to fund
ApplePay
2.. 2) You go into Uber, choose “Menu”, choose the “Payment” button, and then
set ApplePay as your Uber payment method. To be sure you’ve got this right,
when you’re done, you may want to remove your credit card from Uber, and then
if it works it will have to be using ApplePay and they won’t have your credit
card number.
Every time I’m at a cash register in any store I always ask them if they take
ApplePay, and if they say no, I ask them to please tell the manager that a
customer was asking for it, and I often explain to them how much easier it can
be for some people than searching for the correct card etc (to hopefully
convince the manager this is a real advantage for shopping customers).

I am surprised how little ApplePay is being used in Tallahassee (which is a
small city I realize). Some of the trouble is merchants like CVS and Walmart
who want to setup their own pay systems as a competitor to ApplePay, and so
will not accept ApplePay.

Recently, my card got hacked and I have had to put a new card into the UBER

However, when I try to schedule a ride, it shows that my method of payment is

How can I change that to my visa card?

I went into the payment screen, but found no way to change the default method

The basic commands have not changed. If you want to deal with music press

Tones control 7
apps control 8

the rest have more to do with your tabbing around
Also control i will allow you to change information about a particular

Subject: The new NLS website is currently scheduled to go live this coming
Sunday, July 9th.

I received this on another list and thought many here would appreciate the
information.

SUBJECT : New website launch

The new NLS website is currently scheduled to go live at the longstanding NLS
URL of www.loc.gov/nls
this coming Sunday, July 9th. There will be no change to the URL for the
homepage. Your bookmarks to the longstanding NLS URL for the homepage will
still function correctly and take you to the new site. The longstanding URL
for BARD login will also remain exactly the same. No changes have been made to
BARD or the NLS catalog. The site has also undergone repeated accessibility
and screen reader testing here at NLS and out in the field.

Please be aware of the following issues and activities during the switchover
period of three days, from Sunday the 9th through Tuesday the 11th.

1. The old website-the one we're all familiar with-will continue to exist
through October (at least) and our patrons can continue to use it while they
gradually become familiar with the new site.
Its URL, however, will change: the old site will no longer be at
www.loc.gov/nls, but rather at
www.loc.gov/nlsold. There will be a prominent link
on the homepage of the new website-on the left-hand side, under the box of
"Quick Links"-so that patrons can jump back to the homepage of the old website
if they wish to.
If they are on the old site, there will be an equally prominent link so they
can jump to the new site.

2. On the new website, the "Search" field at the right top edge will be
optimized only once the switch of URLs is made on Sunday and Monday. For that
reason, it may be a couple days before it is fully functioning. Patrons can
use built-in navigation on the new site to find what they are looking for
during this brief period. We appreciate your patience during the time required
for the "Search" to become fully optimized for searching the new site.

3. During the same three-day period, for the most visited areas of our
website, we will be embedding new internal URLs and redirected URLs so that
patrons can easily find what they are looking for. Again, we appreciate your
patience as this process is completed.

4. We will be grateful for your feedback about any issues you encounter, or
suggestions you can make. Please send them to
d...@loc.gov and ms...@loc.gov. We
will log and prioritize those changes we cannot make immediately so that we can
iterate on them continuously in the weeks to come.

Re: Question About OoTunes App

2017-07-09 Thread Evan Reese
Thanks Flor,
I guess I was hoping the station info might be updated more frequently for the
iOS app than for the Victor Stream.
And you’re right, the Digitally Imported stations will not play on the Stream,
(There’s an accessible Digitally Imported app to play those by the way.) but
it’s not limited to those. A majority of stations, quite a large majority in
fact, in genres such as trance and techno will not play on the Stream at all.
If you think it may not be any different on the iOS app than on the Victor
Stream, then it wouldn’t be worth the $4.99 for sure.
I’m glad to hear that he responds to messages, but it’s quite a lot of stations
that aren’t working.
Thanks much.

RE: UBER and payments

2017-07-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Sieghard

Hi Mike,

  1. You setup the Wallet app so that your credit card is used to fund
ApplePay
  2. 2) You go into Uber, choose “Menu”, choose the “Payment” button, and then
set ApplePay as your Uber payment method.

Good evening all,

Recently, my card got hacked and I have had to put a new card into the UBER app.
However, when I try to schedule a ride, it shows that my method of payment is
now apple pay.
How can I change that to my visa card?
I went into the payment screen, but found no way to change the default method
from apple pay to my visa card.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Wanted, tutorial for using iTunes with NVDA

2017-07-09 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

Does anyone have a tutorial on using iTunes, and the latest version of NVDA?

If nobody has such a thing, do you all know where I might find something?

I could really use the help, please. I have the latest version of NVDA,
windows 7, and I think I am 1 update behind, when it comes to iTunes. I
use a laptop with a full-sized keyboard, including a number pad. If
knowing this makes a difference, or is helpful?

Thank you,

Terri

Question About OoTunes App

2017-07-09 Thread Evan Reese
Hey Guys,
I have a Second Generation stream which I like very much overall. The problem
I’m having is that whenever I do a search for stations on it, especially for
non-mainstream genres in electronic music for example, I get plenty of results
but most of the stations frustratingly fail to start.
I have an iPad Mini 4, and I was wondering if the app for OoTunes is more
reliable on that.
Anyone using it? Do the stations it shows in search results actually play most
of the time, or even all the time? If so, then it would be worth the $4.99 they
want for it.
Thanks for any feedback.
Evan

Subject: UBER and payments

Good evening all,

Recently, my card got hacked and I have had to put a new card into the UBER app.

However, when I try to schedule a ride, it shows that my method of payment is
now apple pay.

How can I change that to my visa card?

I went into the payment screen, but found no way to change the default method
from apple pay to my visa card.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The app is called My Way Lite from the Swiss Federation of the blind.
It provides breadcrumb navigation and directs the blind end user
through a path not a particular endpoint. it is free.

RE: which GPS app should i buy?

2017-07-09 Thread Chip Orange
Hi Sandra,

I think the accuracy for consumers changes from 2 meters for gps to 1 meter for
Galileo; nice, but not a critical difference for the average consumer. It is
expected to perhaps be more important for automation, but then GPS is also
being upgraded to the same level of accuracy.

As for phones, the Samsung Galaxy 8 is the only one I could find which has
Galileo compatibility, but I too read that a consumer won't be able to use
Galileo for several years yet.

hi Andreya,
While you are correct, from everything I have read, the accuracy is still much
greater than the other alternatives. I mean, as we speak, now!

I believe it runs on the Sanson galaxy, but I'm open to correction here, there
might not even be such a thing as a Sampson galaxy, I don't know. however, this
might be the very thing that will push me onto the android platform.

Another consideration is where in the world you are located. You do not
 say
and this is an important consideration for anyone asking for app
recommendations. Nearby Explorer is only currently available in North
America while the other two have maps for other parts of the world. Also,
you do not say if you need the app in a language other than English.
 Nearby
explorer supports only English while Blind Square supports more than 20
languages. English though is an international language spoken throughout
 the world by educated peple.

I really like Near-by Explorer, but I don’t think it would be all that helpful
in traversing a specific route which isn’t based on named roads (that is, I
don’t think it can record “routes”). Just like Blind Square, it could only
record the end of the route and aim you at it. Either of these could also
allow you to record way points along your route, but you would have to remember
to switch to the correct next waypoint each time you arrived at one. I
believe Near-by Explorer is better at getting you to a point in that it allows
you to use your phone as a “pointer”, and it will indicate to you when you have
the end of your phone pointed directly at the desired point.

I think Seeing Eye can record a route of waypoints however.

Presuming the route from their apartment to the mailbox is outside, BlindSquare
could mark the mailbox as a place, then give information about distance and
direction if that was tracking was turned on. It would say things like,
Mailbox 800 feet at 10 o’clock.
Seeing Eye GPS recently added waypoints. I have not tried them, but I gather
if you walk a route it will mark your turns and you could make the mailbox a
favorite.

I cannot remember the name of the app that is primarily designed to track the
path you walk and allow you to retrace it. Is it MyWay classic?

There are probably others.

I can't search for new stations, books, nothing.
I have a yearly subscription that hasn't even begun to run out. It doesn't end
until next April.
Any suggestions as to why I am getting this error?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Tune in radio

2017-07-09 Thread Robert Doc Wright
does anyone know how to contact the developers of tuneIn radio? I have sent an
email from both the app and their web site with no response. I'm trying to let
them know that their broadcastor wizard does not work. I filled in all of the
information and clicked on "sign me up" and the page never changes.

  Hello folks,

For the past couple of days, Tune in radio keeps giving me an error, but it
doesn't say what the error is.

It isn't allowing me to play anything.

Now, when I click onto car mode, it only allows me to play my favorites, but
that's it.

I can't search for new stations, books, nothing.

I have a yearly subscription that hasn't even begun to run out. It doesn't
end until next April.

Any suggestions as to why I am getting this error?

  Thanks in advance.

Re: Another question about gps apps

To help her out she and her husband are moving to a new complex and are hoping
to create a POI at the mailbox then set a gps app to plan a route to that poi.

Blind Square is not strictly speaking a GPS app. It does not do turn-by-turn
directions.
But, once you find the point of interest you want, Blind Square can launch
Google maps, Apple Maps, or several paid GPS apps.
If all you want is the turn-by-turn directions, Google Maps does a fine job.

Hi all, so here is a question, I know with google maps you can get
directions say from your place to a store or something like that. Can you do
the same with a GPS app like blindsquare? Say can you get directions from my
house to a point of interest? Is there a GPS app that can do something like
that?

Thanks for any tips you can give.
