Re: Transcription Beta Question Please.

2018-12-19 Thread Brent Harding
Yeah, voicemail transcription could probably be a lot better than it's
presented in iOS. All those underscores are annoying. I think they represent
the pauses in speech or parts it didn't pick up, but let's hope this gets
better over time.

Instead of flicking, you can just slide your finger down the screen past
the transcript message or just learn approximately on the screen where
it's located and then just touch the screen below that point.

Hi Everyone,
Can someone please tell me how to get rid of this annoying transcription
beta feature that shows up every time I attempt to listen to a voice mail
message? This is the most annoying thing, and to boot, it doesn't even
read half the message! I have no idea how this even got on my phone
either. Although, from my understanding this is from iOS, but not for
sure.

Thank you for any suggestions.

RE: New iPhone arrives tomorrow. What's the easiest way to set it up?

2018-12-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Keith,

When we got our iPhone 8 we took the SIM cards out of our old phones and put
them in the 8 before we even powered it on. Our old phones were of course on
WiFi so everything worked just fine.
I would unbox the new phone, turn off your 7, remove the SIM and put it in the
new phone, then power on the 7 first and enter your PIN so it's ready to go.
Then turn on the new phone, wait a bit (30 seconds should be plenty) and press
the side button 3 times to start Voiceover.
Most phones come charged, ours had between 70 and 80%, but one way to make sure
the phone has enough charge and to power it on is to simply plug in the new
phone after you inserted the SIM, that will power it on and then 30 seconds or
so after you plug it in a triple press of the side button should get the thing
babbling and everything else is explained from there.
One thing, if you do the setup by putting your old phone close to the new one,
remember that I think if you are trying to scan the barcode it is the old phone
you do the scanning with, e.g. you hold the old phone's camera over the screen
of the new phone. I would sort of line it up by holding it very close, then
raise the phone straight up about 6 inches and it should scan, maybe 8 but you
certainly don't have to hold it a foot away..
Maybe somebody can confirm this, but I'm almost certain it's the old phone you
use to scan the new phone, from a logical perspective one could easily think
you scan the old phone with the new one.

Good luck,
Sieghard

Hi,

My new iPhone X arrives tomorrow.

What’s the easiest way to set it up from my iPhone 7. I’m confused about this
approach of hlding a new phone close to an existing phone. At what stage do I
transfer the sim to the new phone – before or after I do the close holding
thing?

A step by step guide would be most welcome. I think I’ll try setting up from an
iCloud backup of my iPhone 7, and if that doesn’t work well I’ll reset the
phone and then do it from an encrypted iTunes backup.

Thanks in advance. Keith

First, go into the rotor settings and make sure that text selection is selected.
If you want to first select a letter, a word, a line, a page, or all, turn the
rotor to words or lines, and flick up with one finger to go back knowing that
the cursor will be at the beginning of whatever you hear.
Then, turn to text selection, and flick up or down to the amount you want to
select by, and flick right to select.
Then, turn to edit, and flick up or down to the action, cut, copy, etc.

when you say you do not want people to judge you for using your phone in your

fingerprinting for users who would like to use a Braille display or some other
device, One workaround though is to use the Braille keyboard or a Bluetooth
keyboard to enter a passcode, so it is not to bad.

Also, as a low vision user, I have to use attention mode off on Face ID
but otherwise, I think it is very easy to use. I also think that Face ID is
very secure, and I would recommend that people use it over just a passcode or
no security at all.

I think that we will see new security technologies in the future, but
until then, I think we have a great solution for now.

Simon, you do knowhat the iPhone 8 has Touch Id? Nobody forced you to
snap up an iPhone X last year when Face Id was brand new and just as with first
generation Touch Id was probably not as reliable and good as second generation
Touch Id was or this year's Face Id.

I can't seem to determine consistently my insertion point, and only seem to
be able to delete charactersand select one word at a time, sometimes
accidentally. I can get the word cut and seem to be able to unselect it.
The text editing and edit menu seemed to be buried together in the rotor;
they used to be two separate items. I seem to be having trouble remembering
all the gestures I need to do all the cut copy, paste, and select commands.

By the way, where is the iOS user guide? I'm using iOS 12. Is it somewhere
already on the phone or do I need to down load it into Books?

Hi Shermeen,
My work uses exchange as well. However I have stuck with the native iOS mail

from exchange to iCloud. This way the messages are kept on my personal iCloud,
and for me that feels better. Let me know if you want me to help you more with

Hi Juan,
Having face id and finger print reader options, well, that's now cool! LOL!
That's what I call choice! Just out of curiosity, how did your wife set up the
finger print reader option? I would like that myself.

My wife who is sighted and does not like apple wanted an android so I ordered a
Oneplus t 6 phone. It has both Face ID and a finger print reader that is built
into the screen. She can just place her finger on the screen and unlock the
phone. There is no physical button where onecan put a finger it is
just on the bottom of the screen and one just places a finger until the phone
unlocks.

Open Settings in Voice Dream Reader, and go to Cloud Sync. Make sure "Sync

Juan, I play piano in ours and tuck mine up under my arms a lot. The keys are

I certainly don’t give a rats ass about what people think of my hand being in
my pocket.

I play violin in church in my community . That church is very cold and I
frequently put my hand in my pocket to keep it warm. People come up to me
after mass to complement me on my playing and no one has ever menti oned my
hand being in my pocket during the service.

Good morning everyone, I felt that I need to put my two cent in on this

I understand that Touch ID allows for ease of use of your iPhone, and
we should not have to feel that we are doing something wrong by using a phone
in our pockets, but lets look at it from the perspective of someone sighted. As
a low vision person, I would be very disturbed if I could see someone’s pocket
bulging and moving. That would be disturbing and I might not talk to that
person because I would not know what they were up to, so please consider this
when you say you do not want people to judge you for using your phone in your
pocket. I do think though that it would be cool if there was on screen
fingerprinting for users who would like to use a Braille display or some other
device, One workaround though is to use the Braille keyboard or a Bluetooth
keyboard to enter a passcode, so it is not to bad.

Sorry to say this, but if you are using your phone inside a bag or

you look really strange to sighted people. It’s not normal. Also,
FaceID is
much more secure than TouchID ever was.

Can you call Customer Support of your carrier. Consumer Cellular would work
with you and steer you right through the entire set up. If there is something

Hi,

My new iPhone X arrives tomorrow.

What’s the easiest way to set it up from my iPhone 7. I’m confused about this

The phone will tell you when to hold the old phone close and make sure you hold
it just above the new one with the back facing camera toward the new one.
Personally I think it better to wait to exchange the simm.

My wife who is sighted and does not like apple wanted an android so I ordered a
Oneplus t 6 phone. It has both Face ID and a finger print reader that is built
into the screen. She can just place her finger on the screen and unlock the
phone. There is no physical button where onecan put a finger it is
just on the bottom of the screen and one just places a finger until the phone
unlocks.

I certainly don’t give a rats ass about what people think of my hand being in
my pocket.
I play violin in church in my community
. That church is very cold and I frequently put my hand in my pocket to keep
it warm. People come up to me after mass to complement me on my playing and no
one has ever menti oned my hand being in my pocket during the service.

New iPhone arrives tomorrow. What's the easiest way to set it up?

2018-12-19 Thread 'Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.' via VIPhone
Hi,

My new iPhone X arrives tomorrow.

What's the easiest way to set it up from my iPhone 7. I'm confused about this
approach of hlding a new phone close to an existing phone. At what stage do I
transfer the sim to the new phone - before or after I do the close holding
thing?

A step by step guide would be most welcome. I think I'll try setting up from an
iCloud backup of my iPhone 7, and if that doesn't work well I'll reset the
phone and then do it from an encrypted iTunes backup.

Thanks in advance. Keith

Hi Everyone,
Can someone please tell me how to get rid of this annoying transcription beta
feature that shows up every time I attempt to listen to a voice mail message?
This is the most annoying thing, and to boot, it doesn't even read half the
message! I have no idea how this even got on my phone either. Although, from
my understanding this is from iOS, but not for sure.
Thank you for any suggestions.

RE: Transcription Beta Question Please.

2018-12-19 Thread Richard Turner
Janet,
It is on all iPhones running iOS 12, if not 11; I don't recall when it was
introduced.
The only work around is to flick beyond it. It is annoying, pretty much
worthless, and just a bad idea from Apple. If everyone writes Apple and
complains, maybe it will go away or at least give an option to disable it.
