RE: considering Apple watch

2019-10-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I am not sure about the very first Apple Watch, but I bought a second
generation Apple Watch in the fall of 2016 and it certainly does haptic time,
but I very strongly would discourage you from buying a second gen watch, you
will be very frustrated by it’s sluggishness and the fact that you very often
get speech when you want haptic. My wife and I recently did buy the newest
fifth generation watch and it’s a difference like night and day. You could buy
a fourth generation watch because I believe the processor is the same, but with
the Apple Watch, still a relatively new category, if you want to have it for
years to come it really is best to buy the latest model so you get the most out
of the hardware. There is also the third generation watch which I understand
was a fair bit better than the second generation, but I guess you really would
have to see what the price difference is, we almost bought the fourth gen last
year, but ended up waiting and are glad we did because this year’s model has a
built-in compass and for my wife who is sighted the fact it has the always on
display is very nice.

Subject: considering Apple watch

My beloved Seiko Braille watch recently died. I have never considered an Apple
watch, but as I consider buying a new Braille watch versus Apple, I would like
to know what is the earliest version of the Apple watch that I would need to
consider to have haptic time telling capability. Being able to check the time
discretely is important to me and I think I’ve heard you can do that on Apple
watch right? I don’t want to shell out the big bucks on the newest Apple
watch, but this is the time for me to understand if going to the apple watch
is better than a new quality Braille watch. And, if you want to sell me on
why you love having an Apple watch, do share. I’ll go peruse the AppleVis
site, too.

Well, other than the issue the What's App has, there are no problems with
external keyboards.
Good luck with them fixing it.

Out of curiosity, what third party keyboard are you using with iOS 13.x without

I don't believe the below information is correct. What is being reported on the
FlickType list by those who have upgraded is that the FlickType keyboard
problems still exist with iOS 13.1.3 but that in iOS 13.2 beta, the FlickType
keyboard is working properly as in iOS 12.x. I personally am waiting to
upgrade from iOS 12.4.1 until iOS 13.2 is officially released since I depend

Re: Twitterrific's Contex menu New Tweet item

2019-10-20 Thread Christina
I don’t understand specifically what you are referring to. Are you talking
about the 2 finger tap that brings up the compose tweet thing or something
else? I am having a lot of problems when on a tweet and I flick down until I
hear more options. When I double tap, it does all kinds of weird stuff and I
have to explore by touch or sometimes even close a window to get to those
options like muffle, mute, etc.

If you have Gmail, then your delete folder is set to archive.
Check the advanced settings under the mail account in the passwords and
accounts portion of settings.
That, or its something on the server side.
It is not uncommon to have it say delete when you are flicking up on a specific
message, but archive when using the select approach.

That then deletes all the selected messages after using the edit button and

I am not saying it’s perfect, but if you know you want to delete a bunch of
messages then this is one work-around which might be a better solution than to
delete one message at a time and in between you end up on the back button and
have to find your place again.

You didn't find a delete button, because it is labelled, Trash, in the bottom
right corner of the screen.
That then deletes all the selected messages after using the edit button and
selecting the messages with a double tap.
I just did that to confirm.

Until this is fixed, try to tap the "Edit" button at the top right of the
screen, then double tap each message you want to delete which should select it,
then find the Delete button at the bottom right of the screen and all selected
messages will be deleted.

hello all, I have updated to the latest iOS 13 software, and now I am having a
serious problem with my email. It happens with my MindSpring account, as well
as my Gmail account I have hundreds of messages. And I just want to swipe up
one time on the ones that I don’t want to read and delete them.
When I do that it goes back to the very top of the list. No matter where I am,
it seems to jump back up to the top. Is anyone else having this issue?

If you have Gmail, then your delete folder is set to archive.
Check the advanced settings under the mail account in the passwords and
accounts portion of settings.
That, or its something on the server side.
It is not uncommon to have it say delete when you are flicking up on a specific
message, but archive when using the select approach.

Good morning Al (and all).

You can, at this time, permanently disable the AIRA advisory. We recognize,
in areas where there is a high density of free access areas (wonderful!) that
the alert for each can be less than desired.

To disable, you can use either of the following two switches. One to disable,
one to re-enable (as there are AIRA enhancements in the works).

To use the switches, simply copy the string and paste it (just as if it was a
URL) in Safari, then run it. The first switch will disable the AIRA alerts.
The second, which you can use down-stream, reactivates.

Blindsquare://activate?aira.disable=1

Blindsquare://activate?aira.disable=0

Thanks for the feedback, we listen and will respond with AIRA specific updates.
Thanks to our friends at AIRA, for providing a great service for the many

I found this on the web. Easy things to try.

Part 1. iMessage/Messages Not Delivered/Sending After iOS 13/12/11 Update

You may be just chatting with your friends with iMessage but only to see
iMessage not showing delivered/sending on your iPhone or iPad after upgrading

to iOS 13.

How to Fix:

Make sure you have connected to Wi-Fi or 3G/4G network.

Tap the ! alert option and try again.

Turn off and turn on iMessage: Settings > Message > Turn off and turn on
iMessage.

Reboot your iPhone or iPad.

The only one in that list no one with this issue has mentioned trying is
turning Messages off in settings then turning it back on.

I’ve found several issues got cleared up just by toggling the setting in
question off then back on.

None of the texts I have sent that have been undelivered have had audio or

only thing I have found that has consistently worked is to leave messages to
the problem people in my messages app. Since this workaround has worked 100%,
I have not bothered to call Apple support.

I have an old email from Ameritech that I just use for stores & restaurant

I need to recertify my email or it will be stopped. I had one saying they were

Definitely sounds like a hoax, if she checks the email this message actually
came from it would most likely be clear.
Having said this, nobody in my opinion should use Yahoo for their email, I have
never seen so many security issues or read about so many security problems with
Gmail or Outlook.com as I have with Yahoo mail. Almost always when I get an
email from somebody I know which are some sort of spam they have a Yahoo

Re: Urgent, yahoo mail?

2019-10-20 Thread Arlene
I gree, it sounds like a hoax to me. It's true they are making a number of
changes at yahoo, but this doesn't sound right.

Definitely sounds like a hoax, if she checks the email this message actually
came from it would most likely be clear.
Having said this, nobody in my opinion should use Yahoo for their email, I
have never seen so many security issues or read about so many security
problems with
Gmail or Outlook.com as I have with Yahoo mail. Almost always when I get an
email from somebody I know which are some sort of spam they have a Yahoo
account, you know, the kind where it says "Hey, I'm on holiday in France and
all my stuff was stolen, can you please send me some money".

Hi, asking for a friend. She got a message from yahoo that they were
changing their mail and if she didn't login to Yahoo and change her mail she
would be suspended. She wants to know if this might be a hoax. If anyone has
any info about this help is appreciated. She must fix it by tomorrow so it
is urgent. Thanks.

Fwd: [BlindSquareGPS] disabling aira announcement

2019-10-20 Thread Richard Turner
For anyone who updated to the latest Blind Square and are finding the Aira
announcements to be annoying, here is a way to permanently remove those
announcements from one of the developers.
Just double tap on the link rather than copying and pasting.

Thanks to our friends at AIRA, for providing a great service for the many
communities we serve.

Well I found in the release notes on the latest version a way to temporarily
disable this annoying announcement. It seems to me a lot of work to get this
disabled and we need to do this each time the app is launched. I really feel
that this feature needs to have a way to permanently turn this feature on or
off. Hopefully this can be fixed very quickly
