Re: fitbit app questions

2019-12-26 Thread Donald Raikes
Ok for others, I discovered that if I go into the fitbit app on my
iPhone, and tap on my name then on the versa2 icon I can edit my
details there.

According to the help and manual, you have to be able to swipe to the
alexa app on the fitbit to enable it. I setup alexa on my phone and
it says my fitbit is offline, so I uess I will need some sighted help
to set it to online.

Wish there was a screen reader on the fitbit :)

2019-12-26 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi Holly,
Go to Accessibility
Then do a four finger touch at the bottom of the screen to go to the last item
on the menu which is accessibility short cut. Double tap on that and go to
something about hearing aids. I don't have my aids paired right now so I don't
remember exactly what it was called. But when you go down that list you will be
able to tell because it will be selected. I have VO selected in my list which I
want for the triple click home button. So just unselect whatever is selected
regarding your hearing aids.

RE: what to do to decommission an iPhone?

1. Turn off "Find My Phone if it's on."

2. Sign out of everything associated with your Apple ID. This may include
iTunes, the App Store, iCloud, and possibly other things.

3. Go to Settings -> General, and at the bottom of the screen, find the reset
buttons, and choose the one indicating it will erase all content and settings.

4. Confirm/acknowledge all the warning dialogs that appear. This may include
having to enter the phone's passcode (if there is one).

5. If VoiceOver is running, which I presume it is, it will eventually stop
speaking, your phone will go through a reset procedure, then restart,
displaying the screen all iOS devices show when they are brand-new.

6. Hand the phone to its new owner and tell them to enjoy their new phone.

Note: I did this on an older phone recently, and ran into a problem after
having signed out of iCloud. I had to sign back in again to complete the
process. Then I had to go to apple.com and remove that device from my account.
Apple makes no asumption about what one does with one's own hardware, so this
last step is on you, the user.

fitbit app questions

2019-12-26 Thread Donald Raikes
Hi,

My wife gave me a fitbit versa2 for Christmas, and when I went to set
it up, I discovered some issues with the fitbit app and voiceover.

1. during setup, I was asked for my birth date, height and weight.
I thought I got the birth date right, but I couldn't figure out how to
set the height and weight accurately. Today I went to the fitbit
website and my profile is all wrong. The birth date, weight and height
are all wrong.

Does anyone know how I can correct these and how to accurately set
them using VoiceOver?

Secondly, according to the info with the versa2, I should be able to
use alexa on the fitbit, but can't figure out how to do it. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.

I am anxious to take this out for a test run "or more accurately walk).

Thanks,
Donald

Because when this bug first appeared, it was not possible to turn
VoiceOver off, then on again, so sighted assistance was required to do
that. Second, if one is a hearing aid user, a triple-tap of the HOME
button brings up a dialog that doesn't, or didn't, speak, offering the
choice of turning VoiceOver off or doing some other thing with hearing
aids which I forget just now how it's worded. In either case, that
dialog didn't speak either, so someone relying on VoiceOver was rendered
helpless without it. Third, Siri didn't do it either. VoiceOver was
entirely hosed until the phone was rebooted. If that's been fixed in
13.3, I can deal with whatever else there might still be, long as I have VO.

I don't recommend it, because voice dream reader does such an

Try a described movie sometime and you will be amazed at how good it
sounds. Good luck. You could also do things like zip an entire
season of a favorite tv show and play it on voice dream reader. I
sometimes use folders in voice dream reader if I want to listen to a
particular audio book series. That also works well.

I do have voice dream. I love it. I use it to read audiobooks, and
