Re: How Can You Tell If You're Using Wi-Fi Rather Than Data?

2020-07-08 Thread Dave Clement
Hi,

One simple way is to turn off the cell data option via
Settings / Cell Data

Then try whichever app you are interested in using. With "cell data" turned off
you will only be able to get data from the internet if your WIFI is active.

You can also check the status line for the WIFI signal strength which is just
to the left of the time value. IOS will always choose to use WIFI if it is
available.

You might also want to check the WIFI Assist option in the "cell data" option
in Settings. If this option is turned on then IOS will try to use cell data
when your WIFI signal is very weak or inconsistant. If you have a weak WIFI
service, this option can end up consuming some of your cell data allowance to
retrieve data. from the internet.

Good luck,

Re: Problem with Siri and Sending Messages

2020-07-08 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Vivian,
Try this for a soft reset:
Quickly press and release the volume up button, then the volume down button,
and then press and hold the power/side switch for about 10 seconds, you'll hear
tap to power off, but ignore that and keep holding the power button in.
If you have earphones in, you may hear a subtle click sound at which time you
can release the button.
Otherwise, hold for about 10 seconds before releasing it.
Then, wait a couple of minutes and see if the phone restarts.
If it doesn't, just plug it in and in a minute it should power up.
If that doesn't solve it, then it's time to call Apple Accessibility.

Be sure that I am aware I can set different ringers for different callers, but

RE: Is it possible to set up apple tv without sighted help?

2020-07-08 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hey wel done,

One thing I could suggest is that on the apple tv remote,
Press the menu key on the top left corner of the buttons to turn voiceover on,
Then once you think that is on
Start switching inputs on your tv's remote until vo speaks to you and then wala
you have the correct input selection made.

Good luck.

point where I need to switch to the hdmi port on the tv. My tv is not very

RE: Is it possible to set up apple tv without sighted help?

2020-07-08 Thread Simon A Fogarty
I don't agree with the requiring help,

The cables for the apple tv 4k etc number 3 and they can only fit in to one
port of the atv each,

I would suggest trying yourself while sitting down and everythings unplugged.
Feel the ends of the cables and the sockets on the atv device to see which fits
which plug.

You should not have troubles with it.

Of course unless they make the device differently for the New Zealand market.

RE: Is it possible to set up apple tv without sighted help?

2020-07-08 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Kim,

Someone else has probably said this but if you look at the flat face of the
Apple tv the power cable connects on the bottom left in what may feel like a
figure 8 socket,
Then you have the HDMI port in the middle and then
The network port on the right of the bottom
Once you have the HDMI and power plugged in and your tv set to the apple tv
input,

If you hold the remote with the touch pad end pointing to the tv
The round button on the top left of the buttons, the top of the 3 circular
buttons
Press it quickly three times and voiceover will start speaking to you through
your Tv the bottom right is the volume up and down.the top right is the home
button.
This should help to get you started.

Good luck.

There are at least 4 shopping-based apps and Windows applications having
various degrees of accessibility. As a person living with no sighted
backups, my favourite place which is almost totally accessible is:
 www.superstore.ca

Superstore is under the Loblaws umbrella where there are several stores
depending on where you live. using the superstore sige in Winnipeg, I can
browse flyers, add selected items to my shopping cart, and on check-out
either choose to pick-up or have it delivered. At this point, in store
pick-up is free for oldie moudies like me (seniors) or pay a delivery fee
to have that done under instacart. I have not shopped using instacart
since I prefer to pick up my food with no charge.

Flipp.com would be my second choice for shopping where
I do not use the Loblaw's offering.

There are at least 4 shopping-based apps and Windows applications having
various degrees of accessibility. As a person living with no sighted backups,
my favourite place which is almost totally accessible is:

www.superstore.ca

Superstore is under the Loblaws umbrella where there are several stores
depending on where you live. using the superstore sige in Winnipeg, I can
browse flyers, add selected items to my shopping cart, and on check-out either
choose to pick-up or have it delivered. At this point, in store pick-up is
free for oldie moudies like me (seniors) or pay a delivery fee to have that
done under instacart. I have not shopped using instacart since I prefer to
pick up my food with no charge.

Flipp.com would be my second choice for shopping where I do not use the
Loblaw's offering.

I think that’s the figure I saw yesterday. But when I logged in today, and I
got to that stupid webpage, I decided to not bother. They need to fix it. I
called Accessibility, and my wait time is going to be more than half an hour,

RE: Question for Xfinity users who use the iOS Xfinity my account application

2020-07-08 Thread Richard Turner
The message I get when it takes me to the web site and I log in, is that they
are updating the meter but if I double tap on the Data Usage Overview, I find
that I still have 1,163 GB left of the 1,229 GB; also known as 1.2 TB.
They upped the data plan by 20%.

Subject: Question for Xfinity users who use the iOS Xfinity my account
application

Before COVID-19, are used to login to my Xfinity account app and check my
Internet usage, since we all have a data cap. You open the application, double
tap on Internet, double tap on data usage, and you would see, at the top of the
screen, the current month plus the last few. Months of usage.
Then came the virus, and Xfinity stopped metering data usage, so from I think
it was March through June, there wasn’t any data usage available. Now the data
cap is back, but the application has changed in a very inconvenient way. If you
follow the steps I referenced above, opening the account app then going for
Internet and data usage, for a moment, you see July 2020. But then a webpage
opens within the connect app. And every single time, you have to sign into your
account. And then you have to hunt for the information you want. Is there a way
to stop this stupid webpage from loading ueach and every time? It used to be so
easy, and now it is a hassle..

Hello
Can anyone tell me why I with iOS 13 updates I no longer am told the name of
the person either calling in or texting in? I have set a sound that indicates
that a call has come in,, the phone rings, or when a text message comes in,
but it no longer announces a name. I wish it would announce the name.
Be sure that I am aware I can set different ringers for different callers, but
I don’t wanna do that for everybody.

Re: Question for Xfinity users who use the iOS Xfinity my account application

2020-07-08 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Robin,
I just checked for updates, of which there were several. But Comcast isn’t one
of them. It has been recently updated, and my version is 1.5 2.1. And it’s not
working right. I wonder if there’s somehow setting somewhere that has to be
changed. Otherwise, I guess I’ll be calling Comcast Accessibility. But since
yours is working, there must be some difference.

hello,

No way that I know of.

I suggest you contact Comcast accessibility group and let them know about this
this is a horrible situation.

There's no reason why this app works this way.

Why should it force you to sign in when you're just looking for data, after
all, you're already logged in through your app.

Stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid.

Shame on Comcast.

Re: Any Accessible Grocery App in Canadian Store?

2020-07-08 Thread Doug Parisian

Flipp.com would be my second choice for shopping where I do not use the
Loblaw's offering.

Question for Xfinity users who use the iOS Xfinity my account application

2020-07-08 Thread Mary Otten
Mary

RE: Is it possible to set up apple tv without sighted help?

2020-07-08 Thread llumpkin
You might want to consider purchasing an accessible TV. You can get one for
$150 or so. I think most of them now are accessible. You can get one that runs
the Roku or the Fire tv platform. I think I'd stick with those because cable
providers make accessible apps on those platforms.

You may however need sighted help in switching the input on your TV to
the correct HDMI port. In the nicest way possible if you're not sure
what plugs in what you might be better off enlisting some help. Good
luck.

According to the info that I found regarding the otterbox defender
series case for the ipad 5th gen, it says that it contains a built in
screen protector. Here is a link to where I found the info regarding
