RE: Sirius XM iPhone App

2021-05-14 Thread Alan Lemly
Mike,

I’m also running an iPhone SE 2020 but only have one Sirius XM account which is
the streaming service I use just with my iPhone. I set up that account at the
Sirius XM website using my computer and logged into the app using that user
name and password set up on the website. Do you have more than one Sirius XM
account? I would think whichever account you’ve set up on their website for use
with your iPhone could be used to log into the app by going to Settings on the
app’s bottomline toolbar at the far right.

Good luck.

Re: The disaster that is classical music on Apple Music

2021-05-14 Thread Mary Otten
Well, the audience is certainly bigger than voiceover users. Not that they
shouldn’t do stuff for voiceover users, but they’re a huge company. And there’s
just no reason for them not to have a better search mechanism. If a little
dinky companies like tidal and prime phonic can do it, Apple really has zero
excuse.

Hi Mary,
Not that this helps, but I just searched in Amazon Music for Bach Brandenburg
concertos, and the first result was the entire 6 concertos recorded by the
English Consort.
Sea what you get with Apple Music.

Yes, Apple is a rich company. It is also a big company, with more than
one billion iPhones in active use. It is likely that classical music
is too small an audience to devote a lot of resources. Classical
lovers are better off ripping CD’s and transferring them to their
device or finding classical radio streams they like.

I have no idea. All I know is that Apple is a very rich company. They’re really
getting into services. And maybe classical just isn’t big enough for them to
mess with, but so far prime phonic is still in business. Maybe what they need
to do is buy prime phonic, but not screw it up like they did with Siri, rather
let prime phonic show apple how classical music should be done. It’s really a
good service, although the Accessibility is not that great. That’s why I want
Apple to get their stuff together.

RE: The disaster that is classical music on Apple Music

2021-05-14 Thread Richard Turner
I wonder if they use a different database than perhaps other services.
Or, the CD itself had Bach as the Artist.
I know I ran across that a lot with CD’s that I ripped into iTunes.
I spent too much time editing the tagging so the Artist was actually the artist
and not the composer, etc.

Pretty stupid.

Thanks, Malcolm. I’ll have to check out that site. I was really interested in
this new service the Apple is supposed to offer. But I surely do wish they
would get their classical act together. People have been complaining for years,
but I guess we’re such a small group that Apple doesn’t care. It’s not like
they don’t have the resources.

Apple Music leaves a lot to be desired when searching for classical music.

Often I have found results by chance rather than by anything else. Or I have
followed a convoluted route and stumbled upon something of interest.

What I normally do is use the following site then type an interesting result
into Apple Music and then listen to what I am interested in.

https://www.prestomusic.com/classical

I have found many albums by Hosé Carreras that Apple Music did not show when
searching by their facility alone.
His recording of Cavalleria Rusticana being one example.

Re: The disaster that is classical music on Apple Music

2021-05-14 Thread Mary Otten
Hi richard,
Well, it did better than it did with my other inquiry, and that the first
couple of choices I got were actually recordings of the Brandenburg Concerto‘s.
Amazing. Not the same ones you got, but at least they were the Concerto‘s. But
then further down, if you keep flicking, you get to see how Apple thinks Bach
is an artist, not a composer. Come on Apple. Really? Get your act together!

If you want to listen to what in my opinion is a fantastic album, do a search
for:

MDR Rundfunkchor & Risto Joost

Select their recording of the Rachmaninov All-Night Vigil.

Re: The disaster that is classical music on Apple Music

2021-05-14 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
The short answer to the question is no.

Hi Mary,
Not that this helps, but I just searched in Amazon Music for Bach Brandenburg
concertos, and the first result was the entire 6 concertos recorded by the
English Consort.
Sea what you get with Apple Music.

Re: Cash App

2021-05-14 Thread Esther
Hi, Les

I went into the App Store and I did find cash app, but it didn't say anything
about a cost of $25. I would've gladly paid that price. I assume that cash app
is two words. Any help you can provide would certainly be appreciated. Esther

RE: Speaking of smart thermostats...

2021-05-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I don't think the fact a thermostat has a touch screen necessarily means it has
WiFi connectivity.
If your husband is sighted I would get him to check through the menus to see if
a model number is listed somewhere or he may have to pop it off the wall and
see if there is a label in the back, such devices normally have to have
information listed somewhere regarding FCC complyance, model and serial number
etc.

Hi all, does anyone know how to figure out the model of Honeywell. We have just
moved into this house and inherited a touchscreen Honeywell thermostat, but we
have no idea what the model is. We also can't figure out if it connects to
Wi-Fi or not. Surely it does, if it's all touchscreen. What are your thoughts?

Hi Mike,

We have had a VIP Talking Thermostat for years, well actually we have probably
had three or four of them due to issues with them. It is again not working
well, so we are now investigating smart thermostats.

Just curious, which smart thermostat do you have, and what do you find less
workable about it?

Thanks,

We have 2 homes and we have a smart thermostat in 1, and a VIP talking

setting changes and instructions.

We have a Honeywell model that works quite well. The schedule section of the
app is difficult/not worth using with VoiceOver.

But, Once the program is set, you can do adjustments quite easily.

The Ecobee looks like a tech geeks dream but who wants music coming out of
their thermostat, really?

Check with your utility company, they may have some great deals on smart
thermostats.

I do not know, even with ours, if you can use Alexa to set a schedule. I have
not tried that as I am spoiled by having a sighted wife to do those things.

The one down side of smart thermostats is that if your internet goes down, you
would have to be able to use the controls on the device to make adjustments.
But, it will still work on the schedule I believe.

It's been some time since I bought it here in Canada and I thought I paid
$24.99 Canadian, but either I did and it was cheaper when I bought it or I
remember it incorrectly. I just checked the Canadian App Store and it is $3499
Canadian.
Keep in mind that the initial download is free and includes identification of
the two lowest banknotes in your currency, e.g. here in Canada that would be
the $5 and $10 bills. The $34.99 Canadian would be an in-app purchase and this
is for a lifetime subscription for unlimited recognition.

2021-05-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Screen recognition can result in strange issues, in Facebook, for example, it
causes all the tabs along th ebotton to disappear and the odd time when I
accidently turned it on it took me a bit to finally figure out what happened.
However, as Christopher said, it is not useless since there are apps which
would be completely inaccessible it it were not for screen recognition. We use
3CX at my retail store for our phone system. It's an open-source VoIP platform
and their iOS app is useless with
Voiceover except that after you turn on screen recognition in that app it
becomes extremely useable.

Just an aside, but I don’t find screen recognition or describe images useless.
Lots of times it’s just interesting to see what sighted people see or what my
phone looks like, but it’s also been helpful in a few situations. I agree that
it’s nice it’s a toggle so people can turn it off, and I get that some people
won’t like it, but I wouldn’t call it useless even if I didn’t use it.

It sounds like you could have turned on the new, useless, screen recongnition
and/or describe images.
Or, you got braille screen input on.
I doubt it has to do with Voice Control; but who knows.
I'm not sure what the chirping sound is but it sounds like something being
eneabled or disabled.
Best of luck.

That is not like my Logitech K780.
When I am using my Windows laptop the keys from left to right are Control, FN,

Clearly the Windows Key = Options and the Alt key = Command at least on this

RE: Understanding VO Commands on a QWERTY

2021-05-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Simon, Richard is correct, I have a Logitech K780 which is a Windows keyboard
but automatically detects which OS is used and adjusts accordingly. If I switch
it to my iPhone and start keyboard help, pressing the Alt key announces Command
and pressing the Windows key announces Option.

Richard,

I’m sitting here writing on a mac book air running windows 10

Remember that on the mac keyboard
The layout from left to right on the bottom row,

Fn, ctrl,alt (option), command (windows),

If this was a windows keyboard then you could have only 3 keys on the bottom
row,
That would be CTRL, widnows key, alt,

Some windows machines have 4 keys and can be either,

Ctrl, fn, windows, alt,

Or fn, ctrl windows, alt.

What I’d suggest you do on your Logitech keyboard is to put it / the device in
to keyboard help mode and then press the keys to know which one is which,

Well, this is me writing on the Logitech K860 Ergonomic keyboard which is
designed first for Windows I believe.
So, for me, using this on my iPhone, Windows key equals options. Alt key
equals command.
I demonstrated that to myself by using the next or prior word command which is
options plus left or right arrow when quickNav is off.
Writing this email, If I press Windows Key plus left or right arrow I move by
word.
If I press alt plus left or right arrow, nothing happens.

So I guess it is really important to know if they are using a Apple keyboard
with Windows, or a Windows keyboard with an Apple device.
It is lovely how confusing this can be.

Sure.
Control key is always Control whether on Windows, Mac, or iOS.
I always thought Alt was Options, but it is probably Command, and Windows
equals Options.
So, windows+control+spacebar would be the VO command for double tap.

Subject: Understanding VO Commands on a QWERTY

Hi, can someone please take me back to fundamentals and help me understand what
makes up a VO command on a QWERTY keyboard? I recently tested a Mantis Q40
where the bottom row of keys was: Left CTRL, Function, Windows, and Left Alt.

Now, if I'm understanding correctly, the CTRL is called the Command key in
Apple world. The Alt key is called Option. I thought using Command plus Option
made up the VO key.

Yet, earlier today I was reading an article where it said you should use
Command with VO to perform certain functions. So, maybe I am completely off. I
find navigating with VO on a keyboard more difficult than it needs to be. Now,
I did switch the VO key to my Caps key in iOS, but I don't like feeling dumb
about how to manipulate my phone using the traditional VO keys. If someone
could enlighten me, I would be very appreciative.

Thanks,

Joe

I just had a look and there is no option for printing text messages. The only
work-around would be to take a screenshot and then print that.

I know nothing about printing text messages, but emails are pretty straight
forward once you have a printer your phone can see.
Open the email.
Double tap on More Actions.
Flick through about all of the options until you get to print.
Then it depends on your printer what you do next.

RE: Cash App

2021-05-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The difference is that one is a dedicated currency recognition app which can do
hundreds of currencies and apart from spoken feedback also offers feedback via
vibrations and the other, Seeing AI, is an app which among quite a few other
things can recognize a few of the major currencies of this world such as USD,
CAD, Euro etc.
Another difference is that Seeing AI is free to use because Microsoft is behind
it with their hundreds of Billions of Dollars in revenues and a project like
Seeing AI is probably a tax write-off for them and
Cash Reader is quite expensive as apps go, not sure about US price, but based
on the Canadian price I assume it maybe $19.99 US. But it does get quite
frequent updates when more currencies are added or existing ones are updated as
governments change the design of their bills. Cash Reader is extremely powerful
and especially if you don't set it to automatically recognize the currency
which means it compares whichever banknote you have with over 600 banknotes in
its database, it is very fast and accurate and often needs to see only a
portion of the bill. I have mine set to Canadian dollars and it makes no
different if the bill is folded or not or which quarter of a folded bill I show
to the app.

Re: Absolutely horrendous iPhone SE Second Generation Problem

2021-05-14 Thread Gerardo Corripio
I don’t know if it’s the same thing that happened to me last week with mine? I
was on Speaker hone, and suddenly I heard this buzzing sound! I thought there
for a few milliseconds that the internal speaker had gone bad! But the weird
thing was, when I connected the wired Earpods voiceover and the sounds were
heard normal! So I was on the verge of rebooting the phone, when upon a few
disconnects and connecting the Earpods, the SE 2nd, went back to normal! The
internal speaker worked again! Nevertheless I rebooted the phone just to be on
the same side, and fortunately, this hasn’t hapened again! Upon Googling, I see
this problem happened on some models of iPhone 7? Do you guys remember or
experienced this?

RE: Absolutely horrendous iPhone SE Second Generation Problem

2021-05-14 Thread Christopher Chaltain

RE: iPhone 12 pro an hotspot

2021-05-14 Thread Robbie Miller
Hi, I have talked with A T tech support, and apple tech support, neither can
figure out why my 12 pro is not broadcasting its Wi-Fi signal.
Perhaps it’s the phone?

Thanks,

Hello,
When you are trying to broadcast to other devices, are you trying to do this
over wifi? If so, wifi needs to still be enabled in settings in order to
broadcast to the device.
Also, I would confirm that Hotspot is a feature that your carrier plan supports.
