Re: Westminster Chimes Full updated for iOS15 compatibility.

2021-11-04 Thread Diane Giannetti
Nikki, did you say you tried when I suggested? I said to go to the Watch it’s
self, go to notifications, go in there and see if you can find it notification
from the Westminster chimes clock, then go down and find manage and swipe over
and find off and hit the off button and it should hopefully work for you.

RE: App Switcher With Logitech K480?

2021-11-04 Thread Zhi Huang
Hello:

While VO with h twice works, I personally prefer using f1 with the k480. The
reason is because it’s the assigned home key for that keyboard. This means you
press it once for home, twice for app switcher, and even 3 times for toggling
voice over. The problem with VO and h is you cannot turn on voice over with it
since it is a voice over command while f1 is not.

. From PeterEarlFrandsen: speaking of keyboards I have difficulties with
gestures. Speaking with keyboards I have difficulties with gestures such as
even the familiar double tap gestures and I require a lot of use of the
keyboard to do not only typing but navigating. The problem problem that I’m
having with keyboards is that I think I got a K 400 to a large logitech
keyboard. Yes I do have a logitech keyboard. Problem is I can’t get it to even
work in the Donnelly website I can’t get it to work in email I can’t actually
get to keyboard to work an email at all in the mail app I can’t get it to two

having. Speaking of keyboards with typing I go into some websites and some ad
fields and it won’t let me type some letters and then it stops some letters I
won’t type in some it well then I have to do the keyboard and then I have to
turn it off and key and I’ll type in certain letters and then go back to it.
Again speaking with speaking about the speaking about websites again speaking

does it does it as it goes into the website to sound click do I have on on
usually stops. Usually the sound click Willians will start. On the website is a
little website is loaded . And again as I say usually the website should load
and the website should should tell me that it’s loaded and the clicking sound
will stop the sound click. Period problem I have is one sound clicking isn’t
stopping to load the website well most of them so far most of the website so
for now aren’t even loading they don’t even load unless I go back and tap the
reload or Tampa pop-up dismiss pop-up or type of reload or go to my home
screen. No it’s just jump out the websites on loading it’s not the websites
themselves on loading that’s never happened but the websites are not loading
they just unless I load them reload them a second time they’re not loading.
Sorry.

I actually tried that. Here’s the crazy thing. I went to the apps mirroring
notifications to my watch from my iPhone. Every app I have installed was there
except Westminster chimes. It just wasn’t in that list. I don’t get it!

Now no matter what I do, if the phone is locked, no chime and it just comes to
the watch which I don’t want. (Shrug) I am totally stumped.

Just to be clear, I went to the watch app and then notifications and scrolled
down to where it had the lists mirroring notifications.

Hello All,

Well, after deciding to use Amazon Music as my music streaming service, I
decided I would purchase a few more echo devices in order to spread the sound.

However, just before ordering, I thought I would check to see if there was some
kind of way I could send Amazon Music playback to my Apple TV devices.

As it turns out, there is an Amazon Music app for Apple TV and it is completely
VoiceOver accessible. Marvelous.

So, I can now play all of my Amazon Music content from my echo devices,
hand-held devices, computers and Apple TV devices.

I am liking my Amazon Prime membership more and more (smile).

When I press the Mute button, VoiceOver says, "Mute," but nothing happens.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I am thinking that I am not going to update my Apple TV HD until I find a
solution as I do not want to lose Siri remote volume control on my primary
television down in the living room.

By the way, I can continue to turn my television on and off with the Siri
remote.

I have checked every setting I can think of and I have rebooted both the Apple
TV and the television.

All replies greatly appreciated.

Mark

From PeterEarlFrandsen: speaking of keyboards I have difficulties with

even the familiar double tap gestures and I require a lot of use of the

fields and it won’t let me type some letters and then it stops some letters I
won’t type in some it well then I have to do the keyboard and then I have to
turn it off and key and I’ll type in certain letters and then go back to it.
Again speaking with speaking about the speaking about websites again speaking
about websites I go in to click the website and click and it won’t the clicking
does it does it as it goes into the website to sound click do I have on on
usually stops.
Sorry.

Re: Honey well and nest, which thermostats are more accessible?

2021-11-04 Thread Cris Ali

Thanks for your clarification Sieghard,

My system is both a heating furnace and an air conditioner together. The
system runs on electricity. I suppose this should make it easier. I do
not know how many wiires extended from the furnace to the thermostat I
have, but I believe it should be four, two for the heat and two for the
Air conditioner. I do not like the idea of having my thermostat
connected to an outlet. In any case, I do not have any outlets close to
the thermostat area of my wall. I am leaning more and more to the nest
third generation because it does not need the C wire. I hope the nest
application is accessible enough on iOS.

Cheers,

heat pump to efficiently draw heat from the air. They are from
American Standard and the company was told by American Standard that
they have to use their smart thermostat because the other ones
wouldn't work correctly with these units. Fortunately their app is
also accessible except for the scheduling part and it si also
compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant.

Thanks Richard. That really helps.

One of the things that makes it  difficult to decide is the fact that
I do not even if the wiring of my heating/cooling system has the
Common wire, usually referred  to as the C wire. So far the only smart
thermostat I found which does not need the C wire is Nest Gen3, also
known as nest learning thermostat. However, I do not know how
accessible the nest app is. Do you have any experience with this app?
How accessible is it?

We have a Honeywell thermostat that uses the Total Connect
Comfort (tcc) app which is completely accessible.

The physical thermostat isn't something I would want to deal
with on my own, but one could mark it to adjust up or down.

So, the real question for me is, is the app they use accessible.

Thank you, Anna, for reminding me of a braille command I should have
remembered, i.e. the space bar plus p for pausing unwanted speech. This sudden
outburst of speech is a relatively new quirk when using an external keyboard
like a Braille device. In fact just now I had it happen again. When it does, in
case it should happen to others, and you press the space bar plup p, be sure
and check to see where your cursor is before continuing to type, and then, if
it's not where you last saw it, you can change the position before continuing
to write. Again, Thanks to Anna for solving my dilemma with the Braille device.

Re: Honey well and nest, which thermostats are more accessible?

2021-11-04 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,

I wanted to mention that I thought they'd made it possible to use older
models with the newer Honeywell Home app too that app is quite
accessible by and large I'd say and yes you can mark the unit for the
most necessary icons you'd need to interact with  in an emergency. I
have the Lyric t6Pro here.

Some of their newer thermostats are also home kit compatible.

Just last night for some reason no matter what I did in the Honeywell
app I'd change temperature it'd recognize the change and then put it
back to what it'd been and this is with no scheduling in use.  Whether
the temperature really wasn't changing or VoiceOver was just having some
sort of fit I don't yet know as I didn't have any sighted folk handy at
the time. However, I could just pop into the Home app and change my
temperature and it took hold and I was glad to have an alternative.

Take good care.

My thermostat is no longer reliable. Therefore I hope I can get

I just submitted a new build of Westminster Chimes to the App Store!

This address the problem of the chimes not playing in iOS 15. Now we just have
to wait for Apple to approve it.

Part of the problem was that the previous version was not registering for
anything other than Sounds. That no longer works. Apple wants the end user to
have total control over their notification experience. So, by default,
Westminster Chimes will show Banners, and show on the lock screen.

For the best experience, I suggest that you go into Settings > Westminster Chimes
> Notifications, and turn off “Show in Lock Screen” and “Banners”. Leave
“Notification Center” and “Sounds” turned on.

Thank you for your patience, and for your business!

Hi Duane,

Pressing P with Space is the same as tapping the screen with two fingers; it
starts and stops speaking. You can also press Space with M to mute speech, and
then use the same command to turn it back on.

Amazon Music on Apple TV, Excellent !!

2021-11-04 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

Well, after deciding to use Amazon Music as my music streaming service, I
decided I would purchase a few more echo devices in order to spread the
sound.

However, just before ordering, I thought I would check to see if there was
some kind of way I could send Amazon Music playback to my Apple TV devices.

As it turns out, there is an Amazon Music app for Apple TV and it is
completely VoiceOver accessible. Marvelous.

So, I can now play all of my Amazon Music content from my echo devices,
hand-held devices, computers and Apple TV devices.

I am liking my Amazon Prime membership more and more (smile).

Hello Mark.

I experienced the same issue with my pair of stereo HomePods which are set as
the Apple TV speakers.
I fixed it by switching sound output to the tv and back to the Homepod. If you
are experiencing the issue with the tv, you may want to try these steps with
Airpods or some other compatible audio device.

Hope this helps.

Just Updated to Latest Apple TV OS on my 4K device and Mute and Volume Control No Longer Works

2021-11-04 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

So I just updated my Apple TV 4K to the latest OS and now the Siri remote
mute and volume buttons do not work.

When I press the Mute button, VoiceOver says, "Mute," but nothing happens.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I am thinking that I am not going to update my Apple TV HD until I find a
solution as I do not want to lose Siri remote volume control on my primary
television down in the living room.

By the way, I can continue to turn my television on and off with the Siri
remote.

I have checked every setting I can think of and I have rebooted both the
Apple TV and the television.

All replies greatly appreciated.

I don’t know why I got the notifications on my Apple Watch because it’s
not on my Apple Watch. But anyhow I’m not getting changed now.

RE: Honey well and nest, which thermostats are more accessible?

2021-11-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
And of course you also have to consider whether you have only a furnace and
heat or if you also have air conditioning. When I renovated my new retail store
last year I had an entirely new heating system installed which consists of 2
roof top units which are heat pumps with a natural gas furnace as backup when
it's too cold for the heat pump to efficiently draw heat from the air. They are
from American Standard and the company was told by American Standard that they
have to use their smart thermostat because the other ones wouldn't work
correctly with these units. Fortunately their app is also accessible except for
the scheduling part and it si also compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant.

Thanks Richard. That really helps.

One of the things that makes it difficult to decide is the fact that I do not
even if the wiring of my heating/cooling system has the Common wire, usually
referred to as the C wire. So far the only smart thermostat I found which does
not need the C wire is Nest Gen3, also known as nest learning thermostat.
However, I do not know how accessible the nest app is. Do you have any
experience with this app? How accessible is it?

Cheers,

We have a Honeywell thermostat that uses the Total Connect Comfort (tcc) app
which is completely accessible.
The physical thermostat isn't something I would want to deal with on my own,
but one could mark it to adjust up or down.
So, the real question for me is, is the app they use accessible.

RE: Honey well and nest, which thermostats are more accessible?

2021-11-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I am pretty sure the 4th wire is not required on other thermostats, but it is
what delivers power to the thermostat. I know our Honeywell T5 can also be
plugged into a nearby wall outlet with an adapter to receive power instead. In
our case the thermostat is downstairs on a wall where the furnace is basically
just on the other side of the wall so it was quite easy to pull a new wire
through which makes of course for a cleaner installation. I would leave this
for the installer to decide.

2021-11-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Keep in mind that any Honeywell ads I ever see promote the T9 or T10
thermostats which used to be in the so-called "Honeywell Lyrics" line-up and
the app used to be called "Lyric", but it is now called "Honeywell Home". I
can't say for sure, but it seems to me that the Total Comfort platform is older
and not where Honeywell's focus is.

It’s all about the app, I never touch the thermostat on the wall. Works great

Oh yes, also we have Alexa connected so we can tell Alexa to set the

Make sure your messages app is closed before asking Siri to take a message. If
the messages app is open, she seems to cut you off quickly.

RE: A problem using Siri while sending Eye Messages

2021-11-04 Thread Richard Turner
It is something with the Siri server I suspect.

Try doing the whole thing with the home button held in for Siri rather than
using Hey Siri.

Subject: A problem using Siri while sending Eye Messages

Hi all,

I'm using an iPhone S E 2020 with IOS, 14.8.

When I start talking to send an Eye Message, I get interupted after around two
words and Siri is asking me if I am ready to send my message.

I can reboot and then send my message like normal. But, why am I having to
reboot so much?

Many thanks,

James B

RE: Some notifications and Alarms don't sound on my Apple Watch

2021-11-04 Thread Kathy Blackburn
Bluetooth is on, and the watch is connected. At 6:00 this morning, my wake-up
alarm, a lovely piano thing called Early Riser, played on the phone, but the
one that sounded on the watch was the repeated dinging alarm. And a while ago,
I heard an InstaCart alarm on the phone that didn't make it to the watch. The
watch is indeed within range for bluetooth to work.

Re: Westminster Chimes Full updated for iOS15 compatibility.

2021-11-04 Thread 'Nicki Keck' via VIPhone
I am getting notifications on my watch as well. I went into the watch app and
notifications on my phone. I looked at all apps that mirror notifications from
my phone and Westminster Chimes was not listed. Yet I get them.

 Hello Diane,

Here's how I have mine configured so I hope this helps.

Go into Settings on your iPhone.

 Next go to Notifications.

Scroll down to Westminster Chimes Full and double-tap.

Allow notifications is set to on. Double-tapping toggles this on/off.

Under the heading Always Deliver Immediately I have Time Sensitive
Notifications set to on, again this is a toggle item.

Under the heading Alerts I have:

 Allow On Lock Screen disabled.

 Allow in Notification Centre deselected.

 Allow As Banner disabled.

 Sounds On.

 Badges off.

Under the heading Lock Screen Appearance I have:

 Show Previews set to never.

You will need to double tap Show Previews to access its list of options,
in here double tap Never to select it.
Double tap Back to exit this screen and Back once again and you're done.

When you launch Westminster Chimes you have some options you can choose
 from.

Firstly you have to set Play Chimes to on.

Swiping right you have Chimes Style. You can choose between:

Westminster, Wittington, St. Michael's, Canterbury, Winchester and Spoken.

By default I think it's set to Westminster. Double tap on Westminster to
select a different chime style if you prefer.

Swiping right is Volume, double tap to reveal its options. Mine is set to
high. Note chime volume is relative to your device's volume.

All Day on mine is selected. If you double tap here you can select a
start and end time for your chimes. If you have all the quarters, the
half hour and hour chimes set to on there is a 12 hour limit for the
chimes to play. You can increase this by deselecting 15 and 45 minute and
it will now chime for 21 hours. If All Day is selected this limit does
 not apply.

If you continue to swipe right you have a number of options you can toggle
on/off. Under the heading Play The Quarters:

Chime The Hour, Play The Quarters, On The Hour [00], Quarter Past [:15],
Half Past [:30] Quarter Till [:45].

If I remember correctly the free version of the app does not play when the
app is not running. The full version plays when the app is exited farom
the App Switcher and when the device is locked.

 Hope this has helped you.

Subject: RE: Rearranging Share-Sheet-Options?

When you are sharing something flick past the apps you have until you hear
"More", double tap on that, then double tap on "Edit" at the top right of the
screen.

You can now select which apps you want to see and you can rearrange their order.

If there is an app selected and you want to remove it, flick down with one
finger on that app and you hear "Remove", double tap and it will go down into
the section of apps after the heading "Suggested Apps" which are the ones
available but not showing. Note that you may still have to double tap on the
app in that list to set its status to "Off"

If there is an app in that list and you want to see it on the share sheet,
double tap on the insert button to the left of the app.

If you want to move an app up or down flick to the "Reorder" button, double tap
and hold on it and then drag your finger up or down on the screen. You can also
flick up or down when you are on an app and apart from "Remove" there is an
option for "Move Up" or "Move Down".

If, for example you have Messages, Mail, WhatsApp and Messenger in your share
sheet and you want to move WhatsApp to the top of the list, make sure you tap
"More" and then "Edit", then flick to WhatsApp and flick down to "Move Up" and
double tap. The first time this moves it from below Mail to above Mail, if you
do it a second time it would also move it above Messages.

When you are done with your customization don't forget to tap "Done" at the top
right of the screen and then again "Done" at the top left of the screen to exit
Edit mode and save all your changes.

Similarly, after the "More" button you have a number of actions you can do and
at the very bottom of that is an "Edit Actions" button and once again after you
double tap this you can select or unselect the actions you want and arrange
them in the order you want.

Once again tap "Done" when you have finished.

Lastly, before you get to your apps you can share to you may have a list of
people whom you recently called or texted. If you don't want to see them you
can turn this feature off in Settings > Sir and Search.

There are 3 headings in SIRI and Search:

Ask Siri

Content from Apple

Suggestions from Apple

Under "Suggestions from Apple", flick right until you find Show when sharing"
and if it is on and you don't want to see the list of recently contacted
people, turn it off. If it's off and you want to have that list turn it on.

Hi, Group.

I share things with a handful of apps only but I have to swipe a lot on
share-sheet in order to get to anyone of them.

Can I rearrange share-sheet options, please?

If yes, how can it be done, please?

Thanks!

RE: Rearranging Share-Sheet-Options?

2021-11-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Thanks!

About the V I P 3000 Talking Thermostat

This accessible VIP 3000 is the newest member of the VIP family and the most
popular model. The VIP 3000 is a universal heating - cooling talking thermostat

designed specifically for persons who are blind or have low vision. The VIP
3000 can control most Gas, Oil and Electric 24 Vac Heating and Air Conditioning

Systems including the newest multi-stage (up to 3 stages of heat and 2 stages
of cooling) furnaces, air conditioners and heat pump systems. The VIP 3000

can also control Heat Pump / Dual Fuel (Hybrid) systems with 1 or 2 stage
Compressors and Auxiliary Heat. The VIP 3000 has enhanced speech functions
including

a talking Fan Button (fan on - fan auto), the System Button
(heat-off-cool-auxiliary) and optional auto-changeover.

the VIP Talking Thermostats were introduced in 2003. They were the first
accessible digital thermostats that were specifically designed

to offer audio playback of indoor temperature, temperature settings and
programming instructions so blind and visually impaired users could precisely
and

easily manage their indoor comfort.

Today, thermostats are difficult to read an adjust because they have LCD
displays and flat surface keypads that do not provide tactile feedback.

The VIP 3000 provides the necessary feedback in the form of a human voice.
Everything that is shown on the LCD display is also spoken. With each press of

the over sized up or down arrow shaped buttons, the talking thermostat ?speaks?
the temperature setting to the user, i.e., 68, 69, 70, etc. Pressing the

?REPORT? button, the user hears the current room temperature, temperature
setting and mode. Other thermostat settings are also easy to perform because

of the built-in voice instructions.

In addition to the voice instructions mentioned above, an audio CD (compact
disk) with complete instructions to operate and program the VIP 3000 is included

with each thermostat. These instructions are in MP3 and Wave file format and
can be listened to using a CD player or computer. A text file is also included

that can be listened to using your favorite text to speech software.

The VIP 3000 is a single zone battery powered thermostat that can be setup for
either programmable (setback) or non-programmable (manual) operation depending

on the application. In the programmable mode, the homeowner can preset the
house temperature. The unit can automatically raise or lower temperature in

the house at pre-determined times of day such as when the occupants go to bed
at night, rise in the morning, leave the house for the day or return home

in the afternoon. In the non-programmable mode, all automatic setback
functions are turned off and the VIP functions as a manual ?talking thermostat?.

The VIP uses four AA batteries with a typical battery life of 18 months. When
batteries get weak, a low battery announcement will be heard when the ?REPORT?

button is pressed. The low battery announcement begins approximately 2 weeks
before the batteries completely fail. This gives the user ample time to

change the batteries.

The VIP has built in freeze protection. In the unlikely event the thermostat
is inadvertently turned off, becomes inoperative or the batteries fail, the

residence will be maintained at 40 degrees until the problem has been corrected.

Please Note: The VIP Talking Thermostats are not designed to work with high
voltage electric baseboard systems or high voltage electric wall heaters.

Don't over pay for this fantastic Talking Thermostat!

Okay, my tech is old, and I'm not getting any younger, either. I have an iPhone
8 and an Apple Watch Series 4. The phone is running IOS 15.1, and the watch
updated to the most recent version night before last. Since I can answer calls
from my watch, I don't feel the need to keep the phone with me all the time.
Sometimes, however, I hear notifications on my phone that don't make it to my
watch.
A similar problem: on some days, my wake-up alarm rings on the watch; on other
days it rings on my phone. I've looked all through settings on both devices and
haven't found the secret to fixing either of these oddities. Thanks for any
suggestions.

RE: What is the pairing key on the K780?

2021-11-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
There is a lot of incorrect information here. I have had a K780 keyboard for
years and it has no 6-pack and no 3 keys above said non-existing 6-pack.
The so-called "easy switch keys" are F1, F2 and F3 and you simply press and
hold one of them for 3 seconds to put the keyboard in pairing mode.
Here is information taken directly from the K780 user guide which can be found
online in PDF format:

How to connect
1. Make sure your K780 Multi-Device is turned on and Bluetooth is enabled on
your computer, tablet or phone.
2. Press and hold one of the easy-switch keys for 3 seconds (The LED on the
selected channel will blink rapidly).
3. Open Bluetooth settings on your device and pair with “Keyboard K780”.
4. Type the on-screen password and press enter or return.

Step 4 means that you type whatever code is displayed on your screen, I think
it is a 6-digit code on the keyboard. Since the K780 has a numeric pad you can
type it there as it is much easier and quicker.

Keep in mind that the K780 comes with a pre-paired USB dongle/receiver which
you can use on a computer, I can't remember, but I think this is paired to F1
so unless you don't want to use it I would use F2 for your iPhone.
Lastly, if you want to use the K780 with a computer and if you don't want to
have to press FN + function keys for normal function key behaviour you have to
install the Logitech Options software and specify that you want to use the
function keys as standard function keys and not as media keys.
This won't effect the iPhone, the keyboard knows when an iPhone is connected
and, for example, in that case F7 is Rewind, F8 is Play/Pause, F9 is Skip, F10
is Mute/Unmute Audio, F11 is Volume Up and F12 is Volume Down.
This applies to a PC as well unless you have Logitech Options installed and
check the checkbox to use function keys, in that case you can still use, for
example F11 and F12 as volume up or volume down, but you then have to press the
FN key + F11 or FN Key + F12 for that.
Logitech Options has a not very accessible installer, but you can install it if
you know one simple trick:
After you start the installer don't touch your keyboard for maybe 30 seconds or
so to make sure it has fully loaded/started.
Next don't try to use any key combination other than Shift + Tab, if you try to
tab forward, use the Jaws cursor or Touch Cursor or anything like that you can
forget it, close the installer and start over.
If you use Shift + Tab and do it slowly to hear what it says you will be able
to get to the first Next button, then after a few seconds press Shift + Tab
again as there will be a prompt asking you if you want to participate in some
user experience improvement program, again with Shift + Tab you can get to the
buttons to either do so or not, then after a bit press Shift + Tab again, I
think there might be one more final "Install" button.
Then wait and don't touch the keyboard for at least a few minutes, the install
takes a bit, but in the end press Shift + Tab again and I think there is a
"Finish" button.
When the program opens you can tab a bunch of times and if you get to the
checkbox about the function keys, pretty sure it says "Use F1 to F12 as
standard function keys" or something like that, you can easily check it by
pressing the spacebar and then tab to OK and activate it.
After that you can close the program and forget about it, you won't really
need it again. There are sometimes updates to Logitech Options, once again,
they can be done but remember to use Shift + Tab at all times.

If you do have a PC paired with the USB dongle and if you do want to use it for
a Windows desktop or laptop I highly recommend you use the dongle and not
Bluetooth as with the USB dongle it will be a vastly better and more responsive
experience, then you have to press FN + F2 to switch to your iPhone if that is
where you have paired it. I have it on F2 and our Apple TV on F3.
Once you are connected to the iPhone and if you want to switch back to the PC
you only have to press F1 and not FN + F1 because as I said, the keyboard knows
when iOS is connected and the FN key is not required.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Hello list,

I hope someone can help. I know someone who just upgraded her phone and is
trying to set up Facebook on the new phone. Apparently, she has two Facebook
profiles, and is unable to log in to the correct profile, is there a way to
recover the password for Facebook from her iPad, which shows the correct
profile?
