Re: Any reasons to not upgrade to iOS 17?

My issue with the audio messages is that you use to could tap audio,
then it gives you the option to start the recording. That is no longer
a thing it auto startsrecording. Still wish we had the option to skip
to an audio message when listening back.

RE: Why should I upgrade?

2023-09-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
No, only the ability to recognize text in the Magnifier is new in iOS 17 and
requires a phone with a LiDAR sensor, this means either one of the following:
iPhone 12 Pro/Pro Max (the first model to have LiDAR)
iPhone 13 Pro/Pro Max
iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max
iPhone 15/15 Pro Max

RE: AI in Be my Eyes

2023-09-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You may not yet have it as this feature is now just rolling out to everybody.
But, if you do then check along the bottom in the Be My Eyes app, there should
be 5 tabs if you already have it or you also may have it, but it may not yet be
available.
Here is what they say from left to right:

Resetting VoiceOver back to default iPhone iOS 17.0.2

2023-09-27 Thread Shai
Hello all,
I accidentally mislabeled something on my iPhone homescreen with
VoiceOver and I'd like to reset it back to the default. How would I go
about this?
I am using iOS 17.0.2.

RE: Why should I upgrade?

2023-09-27 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'd suggest try using the Camera app. Bring up the camera app, touch the top of
the screen to put focus in the view finder and then start pointing the phone at
things. You can sweep it around and hear things like there's a sign on the wall
with text and then it'll read the text. Obviously it'll depend a bit on how
quickly you're sweeping the phone around and how steady your hand is, but this
seems more responsive to me than the Seeing AI app.

I'm also interested to know how text detection in the magnifier works, and how
it's different or better than just using the camera app.

I feel the most importent thing which should be done by detection mode in pro
searies is instant recognition or recognition of the text while on the move.
If i am visiting any office, i should be able to take help from my phone for
recognising the office doors and the short describtion written on the doors of
the offices! or the name and the specialisation of the doctor in a hospital or
the name of the lab etc.
Some time I face difficulty in identifying the gate number, entry points and
relevant section for our use, seeing AI and Envision AI doesn't help much in
these cases.

RE: Looting Apple Stores is Pointless, as these people quickly found out, iMore

2023-09-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Of course I don't promote stealing of any sort, but it's of course also a bit
silly to say that people have been stealing from Apple Stores as long as Apple
Stores have been around. People have also been stealing from all other stores
as long as the stores have been around and people have been stealing from each
other as long as people have been around.
Anyways, if thiefs are smart they would simply put the phone in one of these
boxes or bags which prevent any signals from getting out and what many forget
is that while a stolen and locked phone may seem to be of little use to
anybody, often these phones are simply taken apart for their parts which in
themselves are still valueable.

Looting Apple Stores is pointless, as these people quickly found out By iMore
published about 2 hours ago

People have been stealing things from Apple Stores for as long as Apple Stores
have been a thing, but something a ton of people seemingly aren't aware of is
that it's entirely pointless. They can't possibly know, because they keep on
doing it.

The latest example came after people looted the Apple Walnut Street store in
Philadelphia, taking iPhone 15 handsets and more as they went. The problem is,
and as some soon found out, stealing an iPhone and other products from Apple
does little more than put a warrant on your head.

And the iPhone won't even work anyway.

Don't steal, folks
You've probably already seen the news stories of looters breaking into stores
yesterday, including an Apple Store. There were even people live-streaming the
entire thing on TikTok which probably wasn't the greatest of ideas. But all of
that aside, we saw something else, people finding out that iPhones shut down
the minute they leave the Apple Store they were just stolen from. And it gets
worse.

As some on X have already pointed out, iPhones stolen in this manner don't just
politely ask you to take them back to where they came from, they do, do that as
well, but they also start to record their surroundings. You'll note the little
green light in the image below.

The result? Stealing an iPhone probably puts your face on camera.
Notably, the green status light means that they are being filmed

So there we have it. As if stealing an iPhone wasn't already a bad idea, you
probably just made it double-easy for the police to identify you.

Oh, and there's more. Each iPhone can be tracked as well, so you might be
leading police to your door. Stolen iPhones display on-screen messages that
read "The device has been disabled and is being tracked. Local authorities will
be alerted."

So, yeah. Don't steal iPhones. Or anything else for that matter.

RE: Transferring Wallet Contents?

2023-09-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Not sure, but you already have the answer, if you set up your new iPhone and
transferred from the old phone then it's either there or not. If it is not
there you have to add it again.

Yesterday I got iPhone15Pro and the data was transferred from iPhone12 to 15Pro

I don’t see the wallet contents in 15Pro, am I supposed to do it myself

RE: Why should I upgrade?

2023-09-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It is my understanding that the text recognition in the Magnifier app/feature
does this, if not use the Seeing AI short text channel which definitely would
do it if it sees any information it can read.

Re: Questions regarding notifications on locked screen

2023-09-27 Thread Lisa Belville

Hi, Terri.

I suspect the issue is with SIRI announcing notifications while the
screen is locked.

To fix this go to settings, Accessibility,  then to SIRI.

In this menu is a button that says Announce Notifications On Speaker.
If it says on, double tap it to turn it off.

This will keep SIRI from speaking notifications while your screen is
locked.  You'll still get your sounds, though.

Hello everyone,

Since the latest IOS update, I have been having a small issue. I do
not know how to fix it.

I receive a lot of notifications on my phone, as I am sure many of us do.

However, now when I get a notification, and my screen is locked,
instead of just getting the notification sound, I get the announcement
of the notification, as well. Eventually, the phone does lock again.

What can I do to stop this from happening?

I don't expect this to be perfect, as sometimes the phone just gets a
bit chatty. But this is new, and just a bit annoying. Especially, when
I am in class. Most of the time my volume is down, and most people
don't know what my phone is saying anyway. But still, I would like to
not have this issue, if at all possible.

What do you all think?

Is it possible to fix this?

Thank you,

Terri

Hi, Group.
Yesterday I got iPhone15Pro and the data was transferred from iPhone12 to 15Pro
in the store.
I don’t see the wallet contents in 15Pro, am I supposed to do it myself
manually? It has my visa, vaccine, Airmiles and grocery cards.
Thanks!

RE: Taking a Screen Shot

2023-09-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You press volume up and side button at the same time, after a moment Voiceover
will announce "Screenshot", that button is at the bottom left of the screen,
but if you double tap anywhere on the screen when you hear "screenshot" it
should open up. You can of course also go into the Photos app afterwards and
find it there.

Hi, all.

I need a memory refresher.  How do you take a screen shot with the 14 pro
model?  I thought it was volume up and then an immediate press of the power
button, but this doesn't seem to work.

TIA

Once again echoing Richard, can you specifically check and answer whether
screen recognition is on? Turn the rotor until you hear screen recognition, if
it says "on" flick up or down with one finger, then make sure you turn the
rotor clockwise again to something like characters or words, if you leave it on
screen recognition it's just too easy to turn it on again. I have an iPhone 13
Pro and use iOS 17 and all is fine in the Health app.

I am still having problems. it seems like the health screen is totally
scrambled.
Instead of saying summary as the screen title it says "summard" and if I flick
right to move between items I get to the tabs at the bottom of the page in
between a couple of the favorite items I have on my summary screen.
Each of the favorite items like steps and active callories used to have the
value next to it then I could one finger double tap the item and get into a
view where I could select weekly view and review the values for the week but
this no longer happens.

This is so frustrating because I have been using this feature to track my steps
(I am in a competition with my work team mates concerning the number of steps
walked each day).

RE: Completing Phone Number or Email Address?

2023-09-27 Thread Christopher Chaltain
It sounds like they're hiding part of the number or email address as a security
precaution. You don't need to complete either of these, since they already have
your email address and phone number on record. You just need to tap one and the
code will be sent. This of course all assumes I understand which apps you're
talking about.

Subject: Completing Phone Number or Email Address?

Hi, Group.
Some of the apps want to send us a code via email or text message and they show
partial email and phone number. How should I tell them my choice, just double
tap the email or the phone or complete one of them?
This morning I was adding my visa to wallet and they wanted sending me a code.
I could not find the text field to type either the phone number or the email.
When I double-tapped the button showing the partial phone number, it did not
give me a text field to type or complete the number.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks!

Questions regarding notifications on locked screen

2023-09-27 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

Since the latest IOS update, I have been having a small issue. I do not
know how to fix it.

I receive a lot of notifications on my phone, as I am sure many of us do.

However, now when I get a notification, and my screen is locked, instead
of just getting the notification sound, I get the announcement of the
notification, as well. Eventually, the phone does lock again.

What can I do to stop this from happening?

I don't expect this to be perfect, as sometimes the phone just gets a
bit chatty. But this is new, and just a bit annoying. Especially, when I
am in class. Most of the time my volume is down, and most people don't
know what my phone is saying anyway. But still, I would like to not have
this issue, if at all possible.

What do you all think?

Is it possible to fix this?

Thank you,

Terri

Completing Phone Number or Email Address?

2023-09-27 Thread Mohammad Fazil
Thanks!

Re: iOS 16.6.1 health app no longer usable

2023-09-27 Thread Donald Raikes
I am still having problems. it seems like the health screen is totally
scrambled.
Instead of saying summary as the screen title it says "summard" and if
I flick right to move between items I get to the tabs at the bottom of
the page in between a couple of the favorite items I have on my
summary screen.
Each of the favorite items like steps and active callories used to
have the value next to it then I could one finger double tap the item
and get into a view where I could select weekly view and review the
values for the week but this no longer happens.

This is so frustrating because I have been using this feature to track
my steps (I am in a competition with my work team mates concerning the
number of steps walked each day).

Re: iMazing Tutorial

2023-09-27 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I'd honestly stick with iTunes itself if you want to share files and
get them on to your iPhone. I do this all the time, and have no
issues. I've put loads of audio books and audio dramas into voice
dream reader using iTunes. It is great.

Hi, all.

I need a memory refresher. How do you take a screen shot with the 14 pro
model? I thought it was volume up and then an immediate press of the power
button, but this doesn't seem to work.

The issue too, is that not everybody has this issue; I'm lucky to be counted
among these! Apart from when hocusing the status bar kind of in the middle, in
order to 3-finger up or down for notification or Control Center, iOS17 is
working great on an iPad 9th Generation, and on this iPhone SE 2nd Generation!

Iphone 15 Pro

2023-09-27 Thread William Outman
Well, I finally got my 15 Pro ordered last night when I dropped by a local AT
location.
I have the accessories in hand, the case, screen protector, and charging block.

Hi, all.

I need a memory refresher. How do you take a screen shot with the 14 pro
model? I thought it was volume up and then an immediate press of the power
button, but this doesn't seem to work.

TIA

Lisa
