If you select “install later” then yes, it will do just that, it will wait
until the phone is on a charger to make sure there is enough power for the
install and then it will install.
You could have just closed that screen and nothing would have happened.

Well, I told it to install later. Because that was the only option you gave me.
And I went and plugged in, maybe an hour or so later, and then all of a sudden
it when it had been installed. My phone was locked on the charger.

Maybe check and make sure you didn’t accidently turn on screen recognition in
WhatsApp which can do strange things.
This is another nice feature in iOS 17, if you have screen recognition on for a
particular app, Voiceover tells you so when you open the app.

My original message with the subject line of Bacckdating related to my
