My phone alarm wants to snooze instead of turn off

On the X or iPhone, isn’t there a way to simply hit a volume button or the side button to make the alarm go off? Instead, when I hit one of these buttons, it comes right back on in about five minutes. How do I just tap to make it go off? Was hoping I could avoid having to swipe around on the
