Re: NFB June Braille Monitor/Article on the iPhone

2014-06-06 Thread Caitlyn and Maggie
You know, not every blind person belongs to a consumer organization.

Although I am familiar with Mr. Chong, heck, have socialized with the guy years
ago, I'd bet that lots of average blind people have no clue who he is and don't
even read the Braille Monitor.

If you are already in that organization, then of course you probably read the
magazine every issue. Beyond that, well, I'm not sure. I have been a
nonmember of the NFB or the ACB for almost 20 years now. I can count on less
then one hand how many times in the mainstream media that I have come across
either organization's name or doings.

Society is larger then the blindness fish bowl.

 if they are available.

It would be a good idea to contact your regional library and report the
title and author so perhaps they will fix it.
If it is repeating the whole side 1, you could check the time, and do a
double-tap and hold on the fast-forward button and try to find where side 2
 begins.

 Hi,

I use the VO Calendar. I love the way it displays the whole week. As soon as
I open the app its automatically on the current week and current day. The
first thing it announces is the number of appointments I have for the week.
I go through my week and hear the appointments for each day and what time
they are at. I love entering appointments. I also love the ease of moving an
appointment to the next day, previous day or next week and so on.

It sits on top of the native calendar and synchs with it so my Facebook
calendar synchs with it and I have an iCloud calendar that appears in my
native calendar and gets synched. Everything is so, step by step, that it
makes it very easy to use. Also, moving from week to week or month to month
is so easy. I guess, one thing I can say for it is that my friends I
suggested it to never went back to the native one yet.

It certainly is worth the money I spent for it.

Kaitlyn, this message comes up because most Braille displays require a pin.
You don't have to worry about this with your display, however, because the
Brailliant line of displays do not require a pin. There should be an okay or
confirm button or something like that on the iPhone screen. Either that or
you just have to press space and the enter key, also known as dot 8. I can't
quite remember which thing you have to do at the moment, look for something
on the iPhone screen, or press space with enter on the display.

If you don't already know, there's a sequence to turning on the display and
iPhone if you want to use the phone without the display for a while. First,
lock your iPhone, and then turn off the display, and then unlock your iPhone.
You can also turn off Bluetooth at this time to conserve battery power. When
you want the display to reconnect with your phone automatically, lock your
screen, turn the display on, and then unlock your phone. The display should
pay automatically with your phone then. If you turn on Bluetooth thing this
time, remember to turn it back on, lock your screen, and then follow the
 procedure for reconnecting automatically.

Re: Talking goggles how to use it?

2014-04-02 Thread Caitlyn and Maggie
Hi Andrew,

I choose video mode in talking goggles. This is right on the home screen after
you open the app.

After that, I make sure the flash is enabled. This is on the home screen as
well.

After this, I move the phone over whatever I am trying to identify. You have
to wait a few seconds, but soon it will actually say what you are looking at,
not using the IOS voice.

I hope this helps. I don't think I left out a step, but you might have to play
with the app a bit.

You can set bookmarks, highlight text and export your highlights, and more.
 Just my two cents worth.

weird message about charging cable on i phone 5c

2014-02-07 Thread Caitlyn and Maggie
I had this weird thing happen to me this morning when trying to charge my i
phone 5c.
when I attached the cable to charge it, it popped up this message that said,
this cable or accessory is notcertified and might not work on this i phone.

thing is, this is the same cable it came with, and I've been using it to charge
my phone for months now!

I've turned off the phone and am now charging it another way, using my power
pack, but does anybody know anything about this message?

Thanks,
Cait

 Hi,
I wouldn't worry about this. I would just perform a reset using the power and
home buttons held down for, perhaps, 10/20 seconds. Then wait until you hear
voice-over on. My for S and, for that matter, my old for, have done this
from time to time. For the most part, it means nothing, but, if it persists,
you might try a different cable. If your phone is new, you should be able to
 get a replacement for free.

 Good luck,
 Sandy

Usually, I find that if I unplug the cable and then plug it back in, things
work fine. I think the reason they did this was to thwart unlicensed
cables. I had a few generic fcables and a Chinese battery pack. Once iOS 7
came out they all stopped working, giving me that message, which I still get
 occasionally with my Apple cable.

Hi, while I've seen many others chime here about the voice preference,

which makes her sound like she's got cotton mouth or like she's about to stab
someone. Others have said that Karen sounds good, and that's true, but only

Hi, If you are wanting to tell us about an app, please give us some
information about it so we know if we even want to go to the web page
to check it out. This sounds more like a high powered sales pitch that
tries to force the user to go to the site with very little trouble on
your part. I've gotten about three of these in the last few days and I
have not, and will not, bother to go there unless I know it is of
worth to me. I'm not suggesting that others should do the same by any
means, but come on, why should I really care what makes your top 10
apps all that worthwhile unless you take the time to give me at least
  some basic information.

Re: Building in solara and managing shops

2014-01-03 Thread Caitlyn and Maggie
You probably have to build another level onto your castle, another floor to add
more space. If you look under the upgrades tab, you’ll find an option for
that. You’ll probably have to spend either a bunch of gold or esper to do it,
though.
I haven’t used the manage shops thing yet, so can’t tell you about that one.

 Hello,

For those who have not yet downloaded the 12 Days of Gifts app and who like
cooking, today’s gift is the “Chatelain’s Superfood Cookbook”.
Keep in mind you need iOS 7 for the 12 Days of Gifts app.
This is an iBook and since I don’t usually read eBooks I was wondering if you
can read iBooks only in the app or if you could use something like Voice
 Dreamreader to read them?

 Regards,

Re: reading a book share book

2013-12-20 Thread Caitlyn and Maggie
Hi Kay,
I like voice dream reader for this.
If you use voice dream, you can download book share books from the app itself
by linking book share to the app.
some people like read 2 go, but that app is just for use with book share.
voice dream works with more then just bookshare, which is why I prefer it
myself.

Re: How Do you turn on An iPad

2013-12-16 Thread Caitlyn and Maggie
Hi Brian.

Hold the i pad with the home button at the bottom.
On the top right side, there is a button/switch that looks similar to the power
button on the i phone, but larger. Hold that in for 2 seconds or so, then let
go.

It should turn on in a little bit.
