Which generation of Focus 40 is it?
Are they for sure pairing through the braille settings and not just the
Bluetooth setting?
The phone should be in lock or sleep mode when you turn on or off the braille
display to insure it connects correctly.

What have you tried in order to fix this? Whenever I’ve had that hproblem, and
it’s been a while since I had it, a shutdown and restart of the phone has fixed
it. Perhaps turning off and then turning VoiceOver on, may not be sufficient to
solve it. It might have something to do with changing from a computer with USB
to the phone with BT, (or vice versa,) with the display being on all the time.
The other possibility I thought of would be that the braille display’s keyboard
could be locked, but AFAIK then none of its keys would work.

I was wondering if someone could tell me why a friends Focus 40 blue will not
work on his iPhone when using the cord commands. The rocker switch and the
little enter key on the right work, but if you use cord h for home or cord b
for back or any cord commands it will not do anything. Is there something we
need to turn on in either the phone or the Focus? Thanks for any help with
this.
