Hello,

I have found so far that there is very little sound delay with VoiceOver and
the new AirPod Pros. It is very quick and snappy with VO.

2019-11-10 Thread territek
Oh, a couple other differences between the second gen Airpods and the Airpods
Pro in the comparison I read on Amazon is that the prose have the mic in the
ear as well as outside, and you can switch between noise cancelling and
listening to outside sounds such as coworkers. Being able to switch between the
two is a huge plus for work. The Bose frames also provide ability to listen to
sounds near-by, but the down side for the Frames is you don't get any warning
that the battery is low, it just plays a few brief beeps and shuts off. That is
a problem if you are on a conference call or Zoom meeting for work.
Best,
Terri Hedgpeth

As far as I know they use the same chip as in second gen Airpods, mostly the
difference is that this Pro model has active noise cancellation and it is an
in-ear design with 3 different silicon tips to fit inside your ear.
Apple makes this 3-silicon tip design/fit sound like the reinvention of the
wheel except of course every half decent in-ear headset has done this for 10
years or more

I normally end up doing the wear one at a time thing because of the
battery life. It kind of drives me nuts, I think I will glad a pair of

It will be a long time before battery technology is advanced enough
to offer 8 or 10 hours in such a tiny design.

Maybe they could design a hat with solar panels which wirelessly
charges your Airpods while they are in your ear. If you live in a
place with little sunshine that of course wouldn’t do you much
good. Oh, wait, they still have to invent it.

Hey Joshua,

You in fact do get better then 3 hours of battery. Each ear pod has a battery
that last for 5 hours on a single charge, plus you have the battery case, this
gets you 24 or more hours of use. The Air Pods take simply 15 mins to get to an
80% charge and this gets you more than 3 hours with the quick charge.

I don’t mean to sound harsh hear but if you don’t want them don’t get them and
stop complaining about them.

Good that the audio is better. I would think it would be for 250 bucks
though. The audio in the Airpods first gens kind of suck though.
Honestly if I pay more than 200 bucks I want an over the ear headset.
I am guessing but I bet these pros don't fall out like the normal
airpods.

In my opinion, the price is way to expensive. If I'm going to pay
$250 for something, then it had better have better battery life then 3
hours. I've got a pair of ear buds that are wireless and lasts for
about the same time, but I didn't pay anywhere near the price of the
new apple airpods.

Hello All,

I just got my Air Pods Pro’s in the mail over the weekend. I am impressed with
them. The noice canceling feature is interesting and it will take some getting
used to. The Transparency mode is really cool. It allows your audio such as
music or even Voiceover to be heard with the audio around you ducking under it
so you can hear your surroundings. From what I can tell you only lose about 20
mins off of the full charge when either mode is active. You get the same
battery life as the original Air Pods. I find the Pros to be much more
comfortable and I don’t have any soreness after wearing them for a lengthily
listen to my favorite music. They come with 3 different silicone ear tips for a
customizable fit. The audio is 100 times better then the original Air Pods.
The new H1 chip for Siri and audio makes it so there is very little or even no
lag for voiceover users. Gestures and what is spoken are in pretty good sync.

So far I really like them a lot.

In addition to having active noise cancellation they are also a different
design, the Airpods Pro have silicon tips, sit nside your ear canal and
completely seal your ear. They have apparently some mode where you are supposed
to be able to hear what's going on around you through the microphones of these
Airpods, but how realistic that represents what really goes on around you
remains to be seen and I assume in this mode the few hours of battery life will
be even further shortened.
At $249 US they certainly won't be on my "I wish I had those" list.

I normally end up doing the wear one at a time thing because of the
battery life. It kind of drives me nuts, I think I will glad a pair of
the over the ear beats that just came out at some point. Then again
the Bose might be a better choice, will do some testing. Anyways if
the batteries in the Airpods Pro are the same they are not all that
useful to me. Maybe in a few years we can get at least 10 hours.

Re: Apple Newsroom: Apple reveals new AirPods Pro, available October 30

2019-10-29 Thread Keith Bierman
again, it's a matter of the load (how much processing there is) and the
size of the battery. The more processing, the higher the load, the bigger
the drain on the battery. hearing aides for small to medium hearing loss,
not using wireless have pretty small demands on the battery. The more
profound the loss, the more wireless activity, the higher the load. The
apple airpods have (arguably) daft amounts of processing (but it's why they
do seamless switching between devices and happily connect to their
phone/ipad/laptop from many feet away).

I'm not privy to the precise figures for any of the internals (hearing aid,
cochlear processor, airpods) but the engineering trade-offs are pretty much
textbook material for the fundamental considerations. The internal details
matter, a lot ... but without comparative teardowns, lab testing and
instrumentation, it's all a bit handwavy ;>

In any event, as a consumer everyone needs to decide what meets
*their* requirements,
w.r.t. usage modes, battery life, water resistance, etc.

Re: Apple Newsroom: Apple reveals new AirPods Pro, available October 30

2019-10-29 Thread Keith Bierman
It's a question of how much processing vs. how much battery. Apple packs a
interesting amount of compute into the little suckers. As for the
complaints about longevity, it all depends on usage patterns. I've got a
several year old pair of airpods which still hold a charge well. I tend to
use one at a time (mostly) and about two hours a day ... keeping them far
away from 0%. People who use both at the same time, running both down to
depletion ... will see substantially shorter lifespans.

My son's cochlear implant has batteries almost as large as my airpods
themselves, and are good for about a day's worth of use. They can also use
disposable batteries ... which happen to be the same as his hearing aide
(his loss in one ear is substantially less than the other). one battery
lasts about a month in the hearing aide ... and two last about 1 day in the
implant processor. Much of that delta is due to the extra computational
load, the rest is due to the energy required to communicate with the
implant.

Yeah, it sounded great, but still five hours of battery life… just ruined
it.

RE: Apple Newsroom: Apple reveals new AirPods Pro, available October 30

2019-10-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It will be a long time before battery technology is advanced enough to offer 8
or 10 hours in such a tiny design.
Maybe they could design a hat with solar panels which wirelessly charges your
Airpods while they are in your ear. If you live in a place with little sunshine
that of course wouldn’t do you much good. Oh, wait, they still have to invent
it.

wait the 11 doesn't come with a pair of headphones. Damn apple are some cheap
asses. They don't mind charging you a bundle for a phone though. If the battery
life is not any better would rather pay the extra 50 bucks and get the new
beats. At least with those you can get at least 22 hours charge time

That has to be a MisTake, as I believe ALL of
Apple's NEW iPhones come with a Pair of Wired
Lightning Ear Buds in the Box & that includes
the following: the iPhone11 & iPhone11PRO MAX & the iPhone11PRO

RE: Apple Newsroom: Apple reveals new AirPods Pro, available October 30

2019-10-28 Thread Cristobal Muñoz
I’m sorry, but I just can’t bring myself to fork over $250 for earphones that
if I’m lucky, will give me 3 years of a good charge. Paying $75 to $85 a year
for basically a never ending earphone subscription service… This is not a
treadmill I’m itching to jump on

Subject: Apple Newsroom: Apple reveals new AirPods Pro, available October 30

I'm sharing this because the new Airpods Pro will be available October 30th and
require iOS 13.2 according to the below article so hopefully iOS 13.2 will be
out in the next day or two. I personally won't be spending $249 on a pair of
earphones.

Apple reveals new AirPods Pro, available October 30
The all-new AirPods Pro are an exciting addition to the AirPods family that
features Active Noise Cancellation and superior, immersive sound.

2019-10-28 Thread Devin Prater
Yeah, it sounded great, but still five hours of battery life… just ruined it.
