difference between touch typing and direct touch typing

2014-11-27 Thread Mike Arrigo
Hey everyone. I finally did upgrade to IOS 8.1.1, so far it seems to work fine,
only issue I have found so far is that the caller id does not always speak.
Anyway, wondering what the difference is between touch typing and direct touch
typing. The direct touch typing option is new with IOS 8

Re: difference between touch typing and direct touch typing

2014-11-27 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Mike, direct touch typing is actually a pretty good description of how the
feature works. Rather than dragging your finger around the screen and lifting
your finger when you find the character you were looking for, direct touch
typing is designed for you to tap the character exactly. It requires good
muscle memory, but particularly on an iPhone 6 Plus or an iPad, you can get
speeds comparable to regular touch typing on a PC or Mac with it if you
practice enough and make good use of auto-correct.

Re: difference between touch typing and direct touch typing

2014-11-27 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Also with touch typing, even if you land right on top of the character
you want to enter, you still need to wait a beat before the character is
entered. This is so if you land on the wrong character you have a chance
to move around and find the right character before lifting your finger.
With touch typing, try just touching a character very quickly and
lifting your finger. You'll see that it wasn't entered. This is to
prevent erroneous characters from being typed.

With direct touch typing there is no pause. Just touch a character on
the virtual keyboard as quickly as you can, and you'll see that it's
entered immediately.

move your finger around it will speak what your finger is over
