Take a look at drop text. It is a very simple editor and is
Notesy is seven bucks, and permaNote which is what Nebulous is called now is
almost ten.
How is there no current free app that will edit text files directly in dropbox?
I'd think this kind of thing would be really popular.

VoiceDream writer costs a lot more than I'd be willing to pay.
Wayne, Plain text isn't available in the canadian app store.
Thank you both for the suggestions,
I appreciate them.

Hello,
I know you were looking for a free app, but I can say that even though the app
is not free, Voice Dream Writer will do what you want.
You can open files in Writer directly from Dropbox, then you can edit or add to
the file, and once you are done, you can export the file back to dropbox
I don't recall how much it was, but you might check out Plain Text,
which can save files to Dropbox. Or, perhaps even Microsoft Word if
you want to go all out.
Good luck,
Wayne

Cheryl: you might try AccessNote from AFB. That app is free and you
can save your files directly to Dropbox. I don't recall offhand if the
saves happen automatically or if you have to tell it to save. Either
way, it might work for what you want.
Good luck,
Wayne

That sounds like exactly what I want. Unfortunately it's not free and hasn't
been updated since 2013.

I've tried to add to an existing file using the dropbox ap with no luck.
I didn't see anything about editing in the dropbox ap itself, so if this can be
done that'd be a bonus.

It's relatively straightforward to in an existing file, you simply go into your
dropbox folder and focus on the file in question; then hit the menu button and
select the appropriate action.

What I want to do is open a document within an ap, edit it, and have the
changes save directly to dropbox, the way you can with a computer.
