No, the person in question was referred by our local ILC who supposedly
screened their referrals.

Hello Andy,

I am so sorry you experienced such a horrible thing. However, identity
theft can happen, remotely, as well as in person.

Also, I want to be clear that you are not saying that the person you hired
to assist you came from Care.com, right?

Anytime anyone uses Be My Eyes, etc, to read personal info, identity theft
is possible.

I know of two people whose very own family members stole their identities;
just terrible. Be that as it may, we cannot allow the unknown to prevent us
from taking part in life.

As for me, I am fortunate enough to have two long-time friends to assist me
with documents that may have to require my social security number, etc.
Other than that? I simply use my screen reader technology to review my mail.

Again, I am so sorry for your horrific experience.

Mark

Home Advisor provides vendors for doing various jobs around the home; not

The reason I ask is because, there are in-app purchases, quite

Now in the App Store, there are two listings for the app but I
believe the resulting download is the same. One app lists itself as
being for those seeking baby-sitters; this is misleading because one
can search for people who provide care for anything; for example to
those who are blind or low vision, seniors, etc. the other is
listed as being for those who wish to register to the service as

downloads which is why I am almost positive that the two app listings
are one-in-the-same.

While the service can be accessed from www.care.com, I would prefer
to register and purchase a subscription through the Apple App Store
so as to be certain that I can easily terminate any subscription without
any hassle.
Also, I don't relish the idea of providing my billing info to yet
another service unless it is absolutely necessary.

As always, all replies greatly appreciated.

If any person hires a stranger to handle confidential information without
confirming that they are license and bonded, is simply asking for trouble.
I have some concern about care.com based on the statement at the bottom of
their web site which I pasted below.
Care.com does not employ any care provider or care seeker nor is it responsible
for the conduct of any care provider or care seeker. Care.com provides
information and tools to help care seekers and care providers connect and make
informed decisions. However, each individual is solely responsible for
selecting an appropriate care provider or care seeker for themselves or their
families and for complying with all applicable laws in connection with any
employment relationship they establish. The information contained in member
profiles, job posts and applications are supplied by care providers and care
seekers themselves and is not information generated or verified by Care.com.
Care.com does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment or engage in
any conduct that requires a professional license.

RE: Has Anyone Ever Used the Care.com App for iOS / iPad OS?

2021-01-24 Thread M. Taylor
First, I am not going to attempt to change anyone's mind on anything.

All I can say is that Care.com has been around for over 12 years, that I know
of; they do extensive criminal background checks and provide references with
contact phone numbers.

I know of many people who have used them for finding baby-sitters, senior care,
etc.

As for letting people in one's home, I think many home owners do just that very
thing when hiring contractors and various vendors to make repairs, install new
systems, etc.

Fear of the unknown should never be a barrier to gaining independence and
exploring new options.

There are risks in virtually every decision; that's life. Bad things happen,
sometimes; all one can do is do the best one can to try and minimize the
chances of bad things happening by performing due diligence.

I know of some people, for example, who will not take a taxi or an Uber because
they read about bad things that can happen to one while in an Uber or a taxi.
As a result, they are shut-in and cut off from the outside world because they
are too afraid to take a chance.

So many of us who are visually impaired do not have family members or friends
who can assist us; so what are we to do? Just sit within four walls and wait
for life to find us?

While I love the fact that we have access to the internet, etc; I some times
wonder how much damage such access does to our mental health.

Mainstream news focuses on bad news. For every 1 bad thing that happens in an
Uber, there are countless times when nothing bad happens, but the news does not
report that fact. The same can be said of any encounter between people and
institutions.

I purchased a home earlier this year, in a town in which I had no previous
acquaintances. As a result, I have engaged the services of many people who I
have met through various references.

My experience has been absolutely incredible. Of course I have taken some
precautions, for example, I keep all of my personal documents in a locked file
cabinet, in a locked room. Other than that? Nothing. Now I can tell you that
not one of the people who have entered my home has even attempted to do
anything suspicious or untoward.

As a result, they have introduced me to people they trust and, slowly, very
slowly, I am building a network of support.

I apologize for the long rant but I don't want anyone to be afraid of taking a
chance on increasing their independence because of the negative comments of
some and /or fear of the unknown.

Hello Jennifer,

This is great news. I was so busy with the InstaCart app, today, that I only
signed up for a Care.com account. I have yet to subscribe and post; but am
planning to do so soon.

So glad you found someone to assist; I hope I am as fortunate.

I am so relieved to discover that so many independence enabling apps are
finally starting to be consistently VoiceOver accessible. This is not to say
that we don't have far to go; but we have definitely come a long way, as the
proverbial saying goes.

I may contact you, off-list, regarding this service, in the coming days.

when I used it. I downloaded the first one you mentioned. It was $39.99
for a year which was kind of steap imo. I wanted to find a house-cleaner
and someone to take me to do eronds.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello Everyone,

Has anyone ever used the care.com app for either iOS or iPad OS?

The reason I ask is because, there are in-app purchases, quite
reasonable ones, actually, but before I spend the money, I would
like to make certain that the app is VoiceOver accessible.

Now in the App Store, there are two listings for the app but I
believe the resulting download is the same. One app lists itself as
being for those seeking baby-sitters; this is misleading because one
can search for people who provide care for anything; for example to
those who are blind or low vision, seniors, etc. the other is
listed as being for those who wish to register to the service as
being a care giver. Again, the same options appear in either of the
downloads which is why I am almost positive that the two app listings
are one-in-the-same.

Mark

And how extensively are the people who can reply to your ad get checked out?
I'd be quite hesitant to let somebody into my house to clean whom I don't know
from a hole in the ground and who potentially has his or her own agenda with
respect to my property or personal well-being.

Well she mentioned cleaning so I didn't know what you were looking for. But now
that I know what you're looking for, something else you could use to, is
next-door. And yes it is accessible. And they do just about anything in there.
From look for people to do jobs to complain about noise or anything like that.

Hi Mark.
I have used it. It's doable... kind of a PITA. But everything was labeled when
I used it. I downloaded the first one you mentioned. It was $39.99 for a year
which was kind of steap imo. I wanted to find a house-cleaner and someone to
take me to do eronds.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Re: Has Anyone Ever Used the Care.com App for iOS / iPad OS?

2021-01-21 Thread Joseph Hudson
Hi Mark, I haven't use the service but I've heard about it on a commercial. I
wonder if you sign up using the iPhone and creating account, if it will allow
you to log into that account on the website using the same subscription kind of
like ESPN. That way you can not have to worry about giving him any billing
information. I will be doing this with ESPN here in a couple of weeks I think.

Re: Has Anyone Ever Used the Care.com App for iOS / iPad OS?

2021-01-21 Thread Jenifer Barr
Jen

Has Anyone Ever Used the Care.com App for iOS / iPad OS?

2021-01-21 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

Has anyone ever used the care.com app for either iOS or iPad OS?

The reason I ask is because, there are in-app purchases, quite reasonable
ones, actually, but before I spend the money, I would like to make certain
that the app is VoiceOver accessible.

Now in the App Store, there are two listings for the app but I believe the
resulting download is the same. One app lists itself as being for those
seeking baby-sitters; this is misleading because one can search for people
who provide care for anything; for example to those who are blind or low
vision, seniors, etc. the other is listed as being for those who wish to
register to the service as being a care giver. Again, the same options
appear in either of the downloads which is why I am almost positive that the
two app listings are one-in-the-same.

While the service can be accessed from www.care.com, I would prefer to
register and purchase a subscription through the Apple App Store so as to be
certain that I can easily terminate any subscription without any hassle.
Also, I don't relish the idea of providing my billing info to yet another
service unless it is absolutely necessary.

As always, all replies greatly appreciated.

Mark
