When I do it, I can’t find the iPhone connected to my computer. I am using 
windows 10 pro, and home edition. On none of these computers my iPhone is 
recognized by the file explorer. However iTunes recognized the phone.

Hello Max,

The process of copying photos from iOS to Mac OS is somewhat more 
sophisticated, (complicated) (smile), than it is on Windows.  The only reason 
it's so simple on the PC is because Windows users, demanded that it be so.  But 
that story is for another day.

ON the Mac, you can use the photos application or various others to import from 
iOS.  

I don't know if it is possible to simply copy files directly from the device to 
the computer via Finder, as I have never attempted to do so.  Be that as it 
may, the entire process is completely VoiceOver accessible in Mac OS.

All things being equal, when you attach your iPHone to your PC, running Windows 
7, 8, or 10, a dialogue box will appear giving you options as to what to do 
with the newly attached device.  

I suggest that you select to simply open the attached drive.  I recommend 
against selecting the Import photos option unless you have a firm grasp of the 
various photo applications on your computer.  

One more thing, in order to drilldown to the iPhone folder in which your files 
are located, the phone will need to be unlocked.  

iTunes is not needed in order to copy photos from your iPhone to your PC.

Connect your iPhone to the PC, go to Windows Explorer and find the phone, you 
can copy pictures to the PC just like you would from any USB drive, but you may 
not be able to delete them.
