RE: Making an App more accessible

2022-07-10 Thread regs2000
Hello Terri. I have the same issue with our new Samsung Washer and Dryer. Like
a number of the new apps and machines, the manufacturer claims accessibility
and when we begin to use them we find they are partially accessible.
I reached out to Samsung's accessibility specialist in the Toronto area and
continue to get promises for further development of the app. They referred it
back to me to send them a video of what is happening. I am at a loss as to
how to do that. If they just tried using it with voice over on any iPhone,
they would see what is wrong with the app.

Cheers

Reg

Subject: Making an App more accessible

Hello everyone,

What are some of the best ways to reach out to an App developer, about making
their App more accessible?

I haven't ever attempted to do this sort of thing. I don't have a lot of
confidence in doing such a thing. But there is an App I would like to be
able to use. It is somewhat accessible.

However, there are areas that could really use some improvements. I
would like to reach out to the developer and share my concerns. Also,
what I think needs to be worked on.

But it is very important to me to state what I am needing/wanting,
without being ugly. Or with just saying something like, this isn't
working for me. Sometimes though, I can find it difficult to express why
it might not work, or what changes might need to be made.

Could anyone who has much more experience with doing such things, please
give me some pointers?

I would really appreciate this.

Thank you,

Terri

Hi Terri; tell us what app you are trying to make more accessible please? Also
you can go through Twitter. A lot of developers I have found respond to
Twitter. and Explain in layman‘s terms what you are trying to do and you should
get a response. Thank you Anthony

Re: Making an App more accessible

2022-07-10 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hello Terri,

Assuming you find the developer's contact information, describe the problem you
are having in as much detail as you can. You could say something like, "All the
buttons on this screen just say, "Button," so I can't tell which one does
what," or "When I open the status screen, I just hear clicks when I touch the
status information." Tell them what you are trying to accomplish, what steps
you take to try and accomplish it, and what goes wrong. That way, they can
follow along with VoiceOver running and see why it's a problem. You don't have
to tell them how to fix it; just make sure they understand the issue.
Especially if it's a small company or a single developer, you might want to
refer them to the Developer Resources section of AppleVis, which is designed to
help developers make their apps more accessible.

While you're waiting to hear from the developer, you might want to try turning
on Screen Recognition in inaccessible parts of the app. Sometimes this can help
quite a bit. No guarantees, of course, but it's worth a try.

I hope that's of some help.

Best,
Anna

Re: Making an App more accessible

2022-07-10 Thread Julie Dawson
When you look up an app in the app store the developer is listed at the end
of the app information and screen shots. Usually there is a website or way
to contact the developer. Or you could get the developer information and
find the additional contact information through Google perhaps.

I wish you well Terri.
