RE: Question about Lazarillo

2022-11-09 Thread Richard Turner
Open Lazarillo, stop the exploration so you can hear what VoiceOver will tell
you.

The bottom right corner is the settings tab, double tap that.

Then, flick right with one finger or explore the screen to find Unit of Measure
and double tap.

You want Imperial. Select that and hit done or back out of the settings.
Double tap on the exploration tab in the bottom left corner to get back to the
main screen.

RE: Question about Lazarillo

2020-10-08 Thread Richard Turner
You need to use the App switcher.
If you have a home button, double tap the home button, then flick up with three
fingers to close any open apps.
If no home button, try the same gesture you use to unlock the phone by sliding
up from the bottom with one finger but slide a bit further to the second
vibration and lift your finger.
Then, the three finger swipe up.

There is only one way to close apps and that is by using the app switcher.

RE: Question about Lazarillo

2020-09-29 Thread chaltain
You’re creating an account in Lazarillo. It’s asking you to use your email
address as a user ID. You’d use a different password just like you would with
any new account. I assume it’s doing this so it can keep track of things like
POI’s for you in the cloud. You won’t have to log on every time.

Note that when I did this, I just used the Google option and then gave
permission for Lazarillo to pull my data from Google.

Hi Rena,

I just installed it on a new device to duplicate your issues.

1. After entering your email, the spot on the screen where the return key
would normally be, is now the word “Next” double tap that to go to the password
screen.
2.Enter your password and again double tap on the Next button in the
bottom right.

You will be asked to allow it to use your location, etc.

When done, it will start talking a lot about everything around you. At the top
left of the screen is the “Stop Exploration” button. I recommend stopping it
so you can get familiar with the screen.

I have written the developer to ask that he change it so it begins with
Exploration off.

Hi Rena,
I just installed it on a new device to duplicate your issues.

Hello,

I already found the app, but I’m confused and need some clarifications, please.
When I open, it asks me to sign in, using email, or Face book, etc. I typed my
email address, but I don’t find any button to sign in. First of all, do I have
to sign in and provide email address in order to use the app? Otherwise, how
can I skip over all that and start using the app?

Unless you’re logging in, nobody should be asking you for your password.
In other words you never give anybody your password in an email.

RE: Question about Lazarillo

2020-09-28 Thread chaltain
You could do a few things. On a home page, you could use the roter to bring up
hand writing mode and then start spelling Lazarillo.

If you have IOS 14 installed, you could go to the apps library, by swiping past
the last home page, and then looking for Lazarillo in one of the folders Apple
provides, doing a three finger swipe down to alphabetize your apps, or using
the search field at the top of the screen.

No,you do not need to be a member.

If you create a login account, I think it just helps save your favorites.

You can use it without that.

Soundscape is really best used with bone conduction headphones since it speaks
the streets and points of interest out of the side the street or building is on.

For example, where I live, there are lots of places where streets do not go
through the intersection directly, but might be a half a block apart where the
cross street continues.

So, if you are walking down the street you might hear 31st ave out of the
leftear. Walk a bit further and you might hear 31st ave out of the right ear.

That information is confusing if you are not wearing headphones and you don’t
want to be earing headphones unless they are bone conduction so your ears are
open to hearing the traffic, people etc.

GoodMaps Explorer does do outdoors. I just installed it and looked at POIs from
inside my bedroom. It seemed accurate about what I know is around me. I like
its tabs at the bottom of the screen; they make sense to me. It is a free
download. Not sure if its maps are on line or are part of the download, though
the download was fast so I conjecture that maps are online and not downloaded.

Will share more after I have used it outside.

A caviat about indoor maps for this application: someone has to map a space by
walking around it with a backpack of equipment. I saw two places that had
indoor maps within five miles of me: American Printing House for the Blind and
the McDowell Rehabilitation Center, the state rehab facility for persons with
visual impairments. Although the maps do not rely on installation of beacons or
other hardware that must be maintained and powered , they do require someone
with requisite equipment to walk around the space on all floors and then there
are three more steps in making the maps. It is a good idea, but indoor mapping
may be limited by how many facilities want to pay to be mapped and how many
backpacks of equipment are floating around the country to be used to get the
first level of map data.

On the plus side, this company is offering other applications of this
technology, e.g., first responders. I would think such data could also be
useful in coal mines when miners need to get out fast and can’t see because of
smoke from a fire. Many facilities might be inclined to pay for init
