Thanks for these instructions. I was trying to open a file created with Notepad
on my computer in the Notes app mainly just for reading. It doesn't work very
well for that but I'll keep your directions for going through Dropbox if I want
to edit a txt file in the future.

Alan, I am not sure if I am understanding your question correctly, I just tried
what I think you were trying to do. I opened a file in dropbox on my phone that
was originally created on notepad on my computer.
when I find the file that I am looking for, I double tap on it. Then says edit
with.
, it works best with notes
created within it and not as an app for working with notes created elsewhere.

It is a fairly circuitous route, but from the dropbox app, double tap on the
file.
Double tap on share. Flick right until you cannot go any farther and you will
find an unlabeled button, double tap.
Then, flick right passed the first mention of notes, to the open in button and
double tap.
