RE: iOS 17.2 Beta now has Journal

2023-11-01 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I've taken a look at the Journal app, and I don't see anything compelling to me
to start using it. I see it supports locations, which I may use. I'm not sure
I'll find the prompts useful, but I may. I don't usually include audio or
pictures in my journal entries. I'm not criticizing it, and I'm sure others
will benefit from the features, but I'm just not seeing use cases for me right
now. I do like how accessible and easy to use it is. I found Day One to be kind
of cumbersome.

True Sieghard,
Since it includes the ability to add photos, etc., they may eventually allow
exporting to Pages or Word. It will be interesting to see what happens down
the road.

And adding to what I said about this being new and still in Beta, I assume that
consumer demand for features will to some degree drive the direction of the
development and what features will be added. To think that the way it is now is
all that it will ever be is probably not even close to correct.

I am curious if there is a way of exporting your journal, like as a txt or PDF
file.
Just wondered if you are locked into just viewing it in the journal app.

Certainly an option, the nice thing with the Apple Journal app is that you can
include photos from your Photos app, pictures you take on the spot as well as
audio. Keep in mind that this has just launched and it is still in Beta so I
would assume that the feature set is far from complete.

There is no option to export from the Journal app. In fact, I would likely just
use Word or a plain text editor over the Journal app unless one is just wanting
to journal starting fresh and not doing any catch up from the past.

I actually discovered that about the year picker myself. You are right, though,
Richard, you cannot, at least, as of now, select a specific time on your
desired date.

2023-10-31 Thread Richard Turner
I've never been someone who journaled. If you want to go back and write about
something in the past, you will have a ton of swiping to do. Just as an
experiment, I wanted to note something from May 25, 1990. Well, if you select
custom date, you can scroll back by year, and then by month; but it will assume
the day is the same day as today. To specify a specific date in the past, you
have to use the default date format and so scroll back by month/year. Once you
get to the month and year you want, there is a month calendar where you can
pick a specific date. Tedious at best since you cannot simply enter a date.

Yes, and you can select the year, if you double tap on where it says, for
example, October 2024 you then get separate month and year pickers.
Only thing I don't think you can set at this point is a time, it will put it at
the current time on whatever date you pick.

2023-10-29 Thread Matthew Bullis
The app sounds intriguing. I have not used such an app before, but I wonder if
it has a feature where you can add past entries for years ago? That would be
really helpful for entering significant things you don’t want to forget about.
Then it would also be nice if it would integrate into the calendar or reminders
or simply notifications, so that for instance you could get a notification that
would remind you of an event or entry from this day a year ago, or this day any
previous year. Perhaps that's too advanced for something like this, but that is
the way I would want to use an app like this. The calendar wouldn't have been
appropriate for this, but maybe this new one could? Do you notice anything like
what I’ve described?
Thanks, Matthew

2023-10-29 Thread Loreal Lavigna
I noticed yesterday when I had connected to Wi-Fi. I was able to get my
download done in probably about 5+ minutes, maybe a little longer. But it
installed fairly quickly.

RE: iOS 17.2 Beta now has Journal

2023-10-29 Thread Richard Turner
I'm downloading 17.2 beta and I've noticed that the betas since 17.1 have been
rather large files, over 6 GB.
So it can take a while to download.

I’m presently running the public beta of iOS, 17.2, and was very pleasantly
surprised to see that the long awaited, much anticipated Journal app is finally
here. I started using it immediately when I saw it, and I love the app. There
is so many different things you can use with the app. When you create an entry,
you can do it with suggestions, your own entry, and you can even add a photos
or videos and audio. Plus, it has an option for location. As of this writing,
it is a private journal, but it also utilizes Face ID and/or passcode,. I
already love the app, and hopefully once 17.2 is released, others will as well.
