While you're in the keyboard settings, you also wanna check to make sure that slide to type is off. To me, that's what it sounds like is being triggered. I turned it off because it never, ever predicted anything near what I wanted to say. It was just in the way. To except a suggestion, just double-tap it. Otherwise, just keep typing and ignore them entirely, and they will be replaced with new suggestions when you add more letters to the word, or start a new word. I like this feature, and for the most part, find it saves me a few seconds. It's pretty good at figuring out small words, like the, and, etc. if you want to review how the suggestion is spelled, and you don't own a Braille display, just turn your rotor to characters, and flick down to spell the word. Then you can keep typing and ignore the suggestion, or double-tap to except it. Hi, I’m using my iDevices with a blue tooth keyboard. As the previous poster said they just keep typing until it says the word. Predictive text is off on my 4S with iOS9.2, though Ilike the feature where above the keyboard as you type, you see the possible predictions iOS launches; definitely saved me from having to write long EMails etc! I am on my iPod touch 5th generation and iPhone 4 s although it takes getting used to. I'm not sure I like it. I'm hoping there is a way to turn it off on those devices if I decide I really don't like it. Hello, I am finding it pretty useful, you don't have to type each and every full word but instead few characters and it will predict current as well the next word automatically. Rarely I have to ignore, but I still keep on typing and it will keep predicting and when you want, just tap over it and it will take ready to type another word. In addition, I think that predictive text looks at the context of what you're writing, and also considers what you have written. My wife and I have shortened names for each other. She told me not long ago that she wrote the first two letters of her shortened name for me, and one of the predictive text suggestions was correct. Apparently the phone learns what you usually write and bases its suggestions on that in part. Another time my wife had asked me a simple yes or no question. I was able to double tap the Yes predictive text suggestion and then send, without having to write out the word. I like the predictive text option mostly, but my trouble is remembering to look above the keyboard for the suggestions. I like one of them when typing on the on-screen keyboard, but I'm not sure which one. I was typing the word telekinetic and had only gotten as far as the k when that word was suggested. I love that. disabling predictive text
Hi all. Sometime ago I remember a discussion about disabling predictive text when one is typing using the onscreen keyboard. Could someone please refresh my memory. I need to type a series of letters which I'm sure voice over will try to change into words. I know how to disable this for a word but don't want to go through all that for 24 sets of letters. I can't seem to find anything in settings which seems like the logical place for it. I've checked in applevis but had no luck there either. Thanks in advance. God bless! How can I try out predictive text? I normally don't use it but would like to see how it interacts with voice over. Are you sure you are not getting suggestions? The choices are not automatically spoken, they are in boxes right above the keyboard.
