Not that it's important, but although google is an American company, none of it's phones are manufactured in America. Similarly, Samsung is a South Korean company, but has manufacturing plants in Vietnam. HTC is Taiwanese. Huawei is Chinese and has most of their manufacturing in china. Nokia

Hi Malcolm, Have you tried restarting both devices? Also, if they have ever installed other braille displays, try forgetting them from VoiceOver/Braille Settings, as the iPhone often has trouble connecting with one display if it's also connected to others. Resetting the phone may also help.
