RE: An audio description question

2019-09-19 Thread Cher Bosch
My search box is really stupid. I tried just using the windows key search and
then went into settings, chose ease of access, and then did the search.
Results- no audio description either place except on the web ☹

When I went to the pbs.org in your message, I got the descriptive audio but
when I downloaded the app, the descriptive part wasn’t there. How do I get it

hi everyone, also, we discovered, that you can watch it on your computer as
well and there’s audio description if you watch it on the computer. Which we
don’t see so it doesn’t matter to us so it was great to have the speakers of my
computer and watch it out loud.

Hello, I don’t know if this helps at all, but iTunes rarely has audio
description for TV shows. They have it for quite a few movies, but not TV
shows. Unfortunately, just because a TV show has description when you watch it
on the TV network, it doesn’t mean it will translate to iTunes. That is
definitely something that needs to change, but right now that is not the case.
Also, if ever a movie, or TV show, on iTunes has description, it will say so in
the details of the show. For instance, the Ken Burns documentary does mention
closed captioning, but it doesn’t say anything about audio description. I hope
this helps.

Double check the audio settings in whatever app you used to watch the purchased

episode of which aired last night on PBS. I "watched" the program with audio

description. For the most part, I won't need it. But it's helpful to have
when people are speaking and you're not sure who's speaking. I should also
mention that I ordered it in SD instead of HD because, as a blind person, I
don't need to own the high-definition format since I’m using either an iPhone
or iPod. But if the audio description's only in the HD version, shouldn't that
have been made clear when I was making the purchase? Any suggestions would be
helpful. But then, perhaps I just have to settle for owning this excellent
documentary without description.

I stand corrected about something I said earlier. I thought I had audio
description turned on last night but didn't so I tried it this evening and it
started playing in Spanish. I have the voice remote from Comcast. I was
listening to the country music show you all are referring to. Also, thanks for

in my nothing but frustrating experience with Pbs video, I understand that they
broadcast with audio description, but do not stream audio description. Perhaps
if any would like to notify them by social media, such as Facebook or Twitter,
it may stimulate a response. But, this far, I have had nothing but frustration
with Pbs.

Hello Friends,

I have an audio description question. First, let me assure you that I have
audio description turned on in settings. That being said, I bought the season
pass for the latest Ken Burns documentary series about country music, the first
episode of which aired last night on PBS. I "watched" the program with audio
description. The first episode is now in my TV library but without audio
description.

PBS Video app was RE: An audio description question

2019-09-16 Thread Alan Lemly
If you get the PBS Video app to work, please post specific details on how to
find the Ken Burns Country Music documentary and episode guide. I saw the post
from Kay Malmquist mentioning how all 8 episodes of the documentary were
available on the PBS Video app and that no account was needed to access them. I
didn't find the PBS Video app at all accessible and I was presented with a grid
of pictures of the various available programs and Voiceover didn't speak
anything to indicate what they were. If there is some workaround to find these
episodes and play them with the app, I'd love to hear how.

I know that with Netflix when you download an episode, you lose video
description, at least that used to be the case. I think it was also true
with Amazon Prime but when someone pointed it out to Amazon it got
fixed. I definitely get video description with Amazon Prime now. I'm
just mentioning this in case this is something you need to point out to
Apple and iTunes.

just go to current events or something like that, you can click on it and
there are all 8 episodes of the country music series, and you can play them
all right now. If you have descriptive audio turned on, on your phone,
which I think it is by default, that even works when playing these. How
cool is this? I just wanted to let anyone know that is interested in this.
Take care.

It most certainly should be available then in what you purchased.

Double check the audio settings in whatever app you used to watch the
purchased copy to make sure there isn't another place to enable it.

I'd be asking about a refund if it were me.

"watched" the program with audio description. The first episode is now in

of HD because, as a blind person, I don't need to own the high-definition

The Ken Burns documentaries are often narrated by Peter Coyote. He sounds very
much like Peter Fonda, for those of us who are over a certain age.

I knew, of course, it couldn’t be him, because he has been long dead.

Re: An audio description question

2019-09-16 Thread Patti Johnson
I had audio description turned on, when I watched last night, but it
wasn't working. But my pbs station tencs to do this. I have been
watching Downton Abbey and they do repeat the episode and the first
showing of a particular episode may not be described, but the repeat
of it will be.
Hope that makes sense.

Re: An audio description question

2019-09-16 Thread Duane Steele
I bought it through the iTunes store on Friday. When I received my bill for
it, I tried to go to where you report a problem and had difficulty even signing
in. I finally gave up. We watched it using a friend's iPad and the PBS APP.
Audio description's turned on in Settings, and when I started playing the
video, I checked where it said captioning and audio and found nothing to
indicate that it wasn't working. I only wish there was a number to call to
actually speak to someone. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions.

Peace & Blessings,

Perhaps if you wrote to the vendor, you might get satisfaction based on an

Re: An audio description question

2019-09-16 Thread Duane Steele
Thank you for your response. In my case, while watching on PBS, I had audio
description. But when I was notified that the first episode was in my TV
library, I didn't have description. I've already purchased the season pass.
So I guess my personal copy of this series will exclude audio description even
though it's available.
