Hi Kelly and all,

I just got finished submitting a bug report on Feedback. I was hoping
VoiceOver support would be better in iOS 17.2 Beta 2, but it’s the same as Beta
1. Feel free to add to my report. Vital info below.

FB13355076 (Lack of the ability to edit clues in Crosswords in News App)

Spread far and wide! I do not know of another app or service that gave us the
access we had in iOS 17.0 and iOS 17.1.

I have had a bit of success and also spoke to Apple support.

So far the best I can determine, you will have the best success by switching
this game into list-view and then swiping through the clues double tapping on
the one you want to enter text for. You will not get any indication that you
are editing that clue. Also, if you delete letters, they are not announced.

Re: Apple news plus service

2019-03-26 Thread Mary Otten
It sounds like you’ll get the same thing from the New Yorker that you would get
if you got the print magazine. So you won’t get online stuff that’s not in the
print one. And the Wall Street Journal says you only get three days of
archives, but you do get full access, but there’s apparently some kind of
search thing that you have to do. So not as convenient, but still cheaper,
especially for casual readers.

Another thing is apparently with certain periodicals, what will be available is
only the weekly edition. Not stuff that's posted throughout the week. I think
The New Yorker made this clarification today. That and there's still some
ambiguity on whether the WSJ will only be limited access or if you'll be given
full access to all content like with a normal sub.
With the trials, you're given complete and full access. A couple of times last
year, I was able to score a WSJ deal of $4 for 8 weeks.

Re: Apple news plus service

2019-03-26 Thread Lisa Belville
Hi, Tara.  Oh thank you, I thought I was the only one having this issue
with the NEWS app.  Yes, since the latest iOS update continuous reading,
even line by line reading is nearly impossible.  VO will read a few
lines and then jump to the back button.  This happens even if the phone
isn't touched after using the two finger swipe down.  It happens several
times within an article regardless of length.

I'm using an SE with iOS 12.1.4.

This only occurs in the News app.  Reading in other apps is as rock
solid as it should be.

Re: Apple news plus service

2019-03-25 Thread Mary Otten
Interesting that Accessibility might be different from one publication to the
next. I tried the Atlantic, which was good. I’ve tried a couple of articles
that were just in the various sections but not within a magazine as such, and
they were good. I guess I will have to go look at wine enthusiast and see what
that has.

Well, that’s interesting. I did reboot both of my phones after the update. I
mean of course, it restarts and you get your update. And then I rebooted both
phones after that. So maybe I could do it again and see what happens. It seems
like if you’re seeing it on an 8+ then I should see it here. Very strange.

Mary,
Well, I just checked on my work phone which is an 8 plus, and the same things
are there.
Perhaps time for a power off and on again or something?
I will see a client next week with an xr, so if you have not figured out either
what your missing, or how we are cross-communicating, I will check on her phone.

Mary,
I just went through the categories A through m, then N through Z' and had no
issues going through to the end of the list in both cases.
This is on my iPhone SE.

I'm curious, what exactly are the issues you're facing with the two finger

I hope you reported that to Apple. I don’t use the Apple news app until now.
I have an RSS reader that I like a lot so I just keep using that, rather
than the news program. But assuming this magazine thing works as it appears
it will, I’m going to be a big fan.

Re: Apple news plus service

2019-03-25 Thread Michael Feir
'Ve just started exploring this and have signed up for the trial. I have no
difficulty doing continuous reading on my iPHONE7. I can also move through
an article line by line or word by word. The rotor is super helpful and
bing abled to so easily access so much magazine content might slow my
financial drain resulting from buying Kindle books. I'll be too busy
reading articles.

I much prefer the iPHONE layout over the iPAD layout. Having my punctuation
set to none, I initialy failed to realise that the "news plus" button which
you double-tap to access that content wasn't just a title saying "news".
You have to feel around more to navigate efficiently on the iPAD. Still,
everything seems about as accessible as you could make magazines. I've
found at least ten that I'll thoroughly enjoy reading regularly.

The fre content seems pretty nice too. I'm still learning the ropes but am
very impressed so far. You could read for days and not come up for air.

Has anyone else noticed an issue with Apple News lately since iOS 12.1 when
reading an article that the screen refreshes kicking VoiceOver back to the top
so you completely lose your place in the article?
I've stopped using the app because of this.
If others are experiencing this, I'll write Apple. A reinstall did not solve
the issue.

2019-01-25 Thread Tom Lange
Hi,
I updated to IOS 12.1.3 last night and I just re-tested Apple News again just a
few minutes ago. This time around I didn’t use a Braille display; I selected an
article, opened it, did the two-finger swipe down and let VO chatter away.
Again, the reading experience seemed to be nice and smooth, or perhaps I didn’t
notice the refresh. Hmmm.

Re: Apple News app

2019-01-25 Thread Sandy Finley
Richard and Rhonda,

I have noticed the same issue, as has a friend who is not on this list. I know
I can tap the middle of the screen, but it is annoying, especially when I am
reading in the middle of the night and, havingh curled up with my pillow after
double-tapping and flicking down in an article I want to read, I am all warm
and comfortable and need to reachout and deal with the phone! :) I know this is
a first world problem, but it is annoying!

I was reading with VoiceOver with the two finger flick down.
It makes sense that with a braille display you would not experience that

Re: Apple News app

2019-01-24 Thread Tom Lange
Hi,
I’m still running IOS 12.1.2. Using an iPhone 8 paired with my BrailleSense U2,
I just read a rather lengthy news article in Apple News and didn’t notice any
automatic screen refreshing. The reading experience was very smooth. I hope
that doesn’t change with 12.1.3, as automatic refreshing is annoying, to say
the least.

Re: Apple News app

2019-01-24 Thread 'Candie Stiles' via VIPhone
Yes I've noticed this and it can be quite frustrating. When this happens I
place one finger on the middle of the screen and then start flicking right or
left and I can start reading again from where I left off.

RE: Apple news

2016-09-22 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Regina,

I, and many others, that I know of, use the native Apple News app, regularly.

At this point, I suggest that you call the Apple accessibility support phone
number at:

877-204-3930.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Mark

I guess there is a" bug. I was looking for exactly what you suggested Mark. I
even took out the app and reloaded it. I can see Apple News online, but no dice
with phone. Where would I call or write about this? Does anyone use this stock
app or am I the only one? Thanks for your help Mark. Don't remember having this
problem when News was first put in the update.

Hello Regina,

As far as I can tell, from what I remember of your original post on this, you
simply need to single-finger double-tap the Agree/Accept button located near
the lower right corner of the display.

It is not necessary to read through the entire terms of service agreement for
the app.

Also, now that I think about it, there may be a button that is labeled
something like Get Started/Continue. It will be located on the bottom line of
your display.

Also, just to keep things simple, be certain to close the app, via the app
switcher and reboot the phone before, once again, launching the app.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
