Re: Irritating mail issue that started with iOS 9

2016-04-15 Thread 'Carol Pearson' via VIPhone
Looks OK to me but Richard did post an URL that was confirmation of a
change made to GMAIL.

(I'd forgotten that this list, and others, were under my GMAIL account
and not NTL, etc.)

Anyway, another member kindly sent me a link of clarification.

I only know that the one change I have made is to put in a "Reply to"
address.

I haven't given up on this one! Please could you confirm whether it's just with
virgin media or NTL addresses, or whether it is when I am using specific
equipment. I sometimes use my phone, as with this email, and at other times i's
my Braille sense or computer. This may help me to sort out what may be going
wrong.

So far as I am aware, I have set up my account using the settings recommended
for computers, i.e., in the case of NTL addresses, it seems they always need
you to put your full address. My name, therefore, does not appear on its own!

I have applied a "Reply to" address to my email account but it's difficult for
me to know what is actually happening. If you want to discuss this further and help me to
solve it, please write perhaps off the list! Thanks and apologies again for those who
are inconvenienced by this!

Hi Carol,
So, here's what I can see: "'Carol Pearson' via VIPhone"
<viphone@googlegroups.com
Instead of carol.pear...@googlemail.com , we see
viphone@googlegroups.com . In other words, your address is
hidden. This is partly why your name goes front of PIPhone in
people's contacts.

RE: Irritating mail issue that started with iOS 9

2016-04-02 Thread Richard Turner
IN your case, Ari, I stand slightly corrected. You show up for me as:

englishride...@gmail.com

In your mail account settings on whichever device you just sent this message
from, do you have your name in the name field?

From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of

Subject: Re: Irritating mail issue that started with iOS 9

Weird. When I see my messages to the list, I see my actual name. I remember I
got sort of yelled at by someone on another list about showing up as Gmail
instead of my name. I don't know why this happened. "also, another weird thing
was that when "i wrote to the list on my iPhone, I'd show up as one thing, but
when I wrote to the list from my computer, I'd show up as another. Strange.

I do have a contact for the VIPhone list in my phone, which is how I write to
the list when I'm on my phone. It's easier to type a few letters and have the
address pop up on the screen to be tapped on and placed in the to field than it
is to type out the whole address. "i also have my email address saved in my
contacts, along with a few other email addresses I use for myself, and they're
under my name, so you'd think I'd show up under my own name and not under
VIPhone, but whatever lol.

Thanks,

Ari

that problem.

Now, if you have people in your contacts that you have copied along with the
VIPhone list, the app could be remembering that they are part of a group.

If you do reply all, this could be what is happening.

I have a contact for VIPhone list which I think helps.

Thanks,
Ari

Hello,
sorry if I step on the mods here, but, rather than Carol, Sandy, and anyone
else, this issue is to do with their provider. They can change name, install
any updates, change clients, you can, too. we can change group server, it will
not change. I know googlemail, AOL, and yahoo are certainly effected. not sure
what else is.

Carol, not picking on you here, but several people seem to have set up their
Email accounts without their name, so Emails to the list from those folks look
like they are coming from the list not from the individual to the list.
Jenny, myself, Harry, Mary, Sieghard, and many, many more; show their name in
the from field in the list of messages, followed by the subject.
But Carol, Sandy, and I think Ari among others it just says
ViPone list, Re: Irritating mail issue that started with iOS 9

I have no idea if this is related at all.
I've only seen something like this after I've selected to reply all to a list
message.

Hello,
OK, let's guess. :) Google mail, and a few others, become name via
viph...@googlegroups.comm. So, I think, all that happens is the person's name
goes before VIPhone, but it will still work. Just my guesses.

Re: Irritating mail issue that started with iOS 9

2016-04-02 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone
Mary,
Yes I have this issue and I'm using an iPhone 6. so, when I initiate a message
to the list, I going to an existing message flick down till I find the link to
post to the group and double tap that. it is only a workaround, of course, but
I do wonder why some of us have this issue. and, actually, it is interesting,
because I too am always offered Carol Piersons viphone address.

good luck,
Sandy

Re: Irritating mail issue that started with iOS 9

2016-04-01 Thread Richard Turner

Mary,
I have the 5s and I do not have that issue on iOS 9.3. I don't think I ever had
that problem.
Now, if you have people in your contacts that you have copied along with the
VIPhone list, the app could be remembering that they are part of a group.
If you do reply all, this could be what is happening.
I have a contact for VIPhone list which I think helps.
Richard
