RE: Question about third generation Apple TV
I don't remember specifically, but I'm pretty sure that with the third you could listen to Netflix through your stereo without the TV on. You will probably need the digital to analog converter. The optical audio cord will plug into that. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Daniel Miller Sent: Friday, December 04, 2015 7:37 PM To: macvisionar...@googlegroups.com Cc: mac4thebl...@freelists.org; viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Question about third generation Apple TV Hi marry, Yes, you need a video signal in order to play Netflix on the 3rd generation Apple TV. Re: Question about third generation Apple TV
I gave a link in an AppleVis.com thread about the Apple TV. I am sorry that I don't have the name of the little box, but it cost about thirty dollars. A search on AppleVis will turn up a thread where I thank Doug for the link on Amazon. Matthew On Dec 4, 2015, at 11:21 PM, Mary Ottenwrote: What is that converter thing called? Re: Question about third generation Apple TV
Well, the answer seems to be yes and no. I have been using the 3rd generation Apple TV with Netflix just fine. I have been using one of those little converter boxes that takes an HDMI signal and outputs it as RCA to the stereo. Now whether that fools Netflix into thinking that you actually do have a video signal or not I'm not sure, but the converter box works fine. Should something change in future, I did buy a small DVD/TV that the Apple TV can plug into. I mainly bought it though so I could play the handful of dvds that will never be on Netflix, because they are rare or non-commercial. Anyway, I hope that helps.
