Re: Seeing AI, After A Little MoreThan A Year

2018-11-30 Thread englishrider91
That's so odd, Richard. I find that the document channel often doesn't work for
me, either. I usually get the message, no text, or something like that. It's
strange, too, considering I'm doing the same thing I would be with something
like KNFBReader, and that was fine. It's especially odd, given that the short
text channel works fine--well, as fine as any OCR app ever does on the iPhone.
I find that my hands usually shake after a little bit of holding up the phone.
It's better if I brace my elbows on the table, though, but that doesn't help
when you need to scan something freehand, like when you're out and about.

Thanks,
Ari

I have great results with Short Text, but that Document channel does
take a very precise positioning, hard to get it to work consistently,
I have had better luck using a ScanJig scanning stand.

2018-11-28 Thread kelbycarlson
Does anyone have more specific suggestions? Like I said, I've even had my
wife use the app to scan documents and she hasn't gotten any better results
than I have. I can sometimes get decent results with the short text channel
and it is useful for scanning barcodes, but the document channel never
works. I do try to position it farther away from the document and follow
the guidance instructions, but nothing helps.

After somewhat frequent use, I remain fairly unimpressed. The primary reason:
the document channel. My wife (sighted) has verified that more often than not I
am getting a page of text entirely in the picture and readable to the eye.
Nevertheless, my results are almost always inconsistent. Sometimes the results
are good, though almost never perfect. Other times they are terrible. The
inconsistency can happen even when the pictures are almost identical. We have
tried this on many, many documents. For reference: an iPhone 7 running iOS 11.4.

I would love to hear contrary testimonials. I have emailed this list in the
past with similar issues, and the response has been mostly along the lines of
"you must not be positioning correctly". But at this point I havehave had many
sighted people verify that in fact I (and they) are positioning the camera
correctly with bad results.

I think the key is to hold the phone farther away from the document then you
think. There have been times when I hold the phone closer, about 4 to 6 inches
and the scan isn't very good. If I hold the phone about 10 to 12 inches away I
get a much better scan.

often than not I am getting a page of text entirely in the picture and
readable to the eye. Nevertheless, my results are almost always
inconsistent. Sometimes the results are good, though almost never
perfect. Other times they are terrible. The inconsistency can happen even
when the pictures are almost identical. We have tried this on many, many
documents. For reference: an iPhone 7 running iOS 11.4.

I would love to hear contrary testimonials. I have emailed this list in
the past with similar issues, and the response has been mostly along the
lines of "you must not be positioning correctly". But at this point I
havehave had many sighted people verify that in fact I (and they) are
positioning the camera correctly with bad results.

I second that, there are times when reading and envelope for mail is difficult

I have nearly the exact opposite experience. I seldom get a bad scan with the
