determines where audio will be heard during a phone call or FaceTime audio.
It defaults to automatic.
Maybe setting it to speaker will do what you want if that is to always
locking the screen does work.
But, you lose the use of the number pad.

That is exactly what I thought too. Automatic is toggled off and the sensor is
still working.
