Re: question internet radio

2018-05-24 Thread Ian Harrison
Hi. In the UK I can simply ask Alexa to play any radio station that has
an internet stream. As long as you know the exact name of the station no extra
skills are needed.

The iOS scientific calculator definitely has the cubed root function just as it
has Squared, cubed and square root.

This is all I have and all I do, so most channels come out of TuneIn. This
covers the most common or popular.
The Sleep command in conjunction with that make the device worth it's price.
Talking radio alarm clock,... any idea how much the
V.I specific ones cost?

These Echo's are a revelation in our world as VoiceOver was in phones.

Indeed, talking calculators will go to the wall next, since Echo can do more of
that than any previous calculator so far, let alone a talking one.
E.g: turning iOs calculator to landscape for scientific functions, still
doesn't offer a cube root function.

ok, getting a bit OT and your dad might not be interested, but ya never know!

You do not need Prime, just a free Amazon account to set up an Echo.
So, Giannys Father could use it so long as he has WiFi.

Hello,

I don't think you do, unless you have to have prime to get an echo in
the first place. I have had prime since before I had an echo so I'd
have no experience in using one without it.
However, their are a lot of radio aps you can get for the echo that
come to no extra cost, like radio player. If you can let me know which
stations your father will likely use, I would be more than happy to
investigate and recommend an app for you.

Hi,
I have a question but maybe it's not the right place here to post it.
My father can't work with an iphone or computer. He is also blind.
I am looking for an internet radio for him. It has to be easyto switch from
channel to channel. And I will put some favorite

channels in there for him.
Does anyone have some experience with this?

Re: question internet radio

2018-05-07 Thread Scott Davert
I'll add my recommendation for the Amazon Echo, though I won't expand
on it, since that takes this dramatically off topic. You do not need a
paid account to use the TuneIN skill. To bring it back on topic for
this list, you can set it up using the Alexa app, though I would
recommend doing the set up through the web. The last time I tried to
set mine up using the iOS app, the list of Wifi networks kept
refreshing every 2 seconds or so, which made it difficult to get the
Echo to connect to Wifi. I know that sighted people do not have this
issue with the iOS appp, but it certainly was problematic from the
perspective of a VoiceOver user. It may be a non-issue for this set up
if your father does not live in an area where there are many Wifi
networks.

Hope this helps,
Scott

Re: question internet radio

2018-05-07 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
This is all I have and all I do, so most channels come out of TuneIn. This
covers the most common or popular.
The Sleep command in conjunction with that make the device worth it's price.
Talking radio alarm clock,... any idea how much the
V.I specific ones cost?

These Echo's are a revelation in our world as VoiceOver was in phones.

Indeed, talking calculators will go to the wall next, since Echo can do more of
that than any previous calculator so far, let alone
a talking one.
E.g: turning iOs calculator to landscape for scientific functions, still
doesn't offer a cube root function.

ok, getting a bit OT and your dad might not be interested, but ya never know!

Re: question internet radio

2018-05-06 Thread Richard Turner

Do you have to have Prime to get internet radio with an Echo?
It might be worth it over the Victor Stratus unless the price of the Stratus
has come way down.

Subject: question internet radio

Hi,
I have a question but maybe it's not the right place here to post it.
My father can't work with an iphone or computer. He is also blind.
I am looking for an internet radio for him. It has to be easyto switch from
channel to channel. And I will put some favorite
channels in there for him.
Does anyone have some experience with this?
