Re: Overdrive help needed -- how to see only audiobooks
As Richard said, the overdrive app has vastly improved over the years. There are now hundreds if not thousands of audiobooks and accessible ebooks that are free to download and read. As for the size of the files, this does not matter so much in the overdrive app. You just download them and listen to them and then they will disappear after the lending period is over. I also have not noticed any difference in downloading time between the overdrive and audible apps. The only major setback is that it is easier to navigate through an audible book. For instance, I can make audible books rewind ten or so seconds using the controls on my bluetooth headphones and speakers, but I cannot do this with the overdrive app, I have to navigate using the phone. I never liked over drive. My library had it and I couldn't get access to that many audio books. I also didn't like that the mp3 files were in 64 KBPS format, and I could get the books from audible in 32 KBPS format so they were smaller in size from audible. Once you complete the borrow through amazon, you will read the book through the kindle app, not the overdrive app. You just setup the kindle app then the book will appear in the cloud. The books are borrow through your public library. So yes, they are free as long as you have a library card just as if you could walk into the library and choose a book. Yes, I believe you need a library card. I know that some libraries are offering ways to get library cards online at this time. As for the ebooks, many of the ebooks are available in a kindle format. You borrow them and then check them out through amazon. Those are accessible through the kindle app It is really easy to use. You could also read them on a tablet. The other format offered is an epub ebook. That is not accessible unless you have software to convert it in to an accessible format. anyway, you just double tap on a book in the overdrive library page then double tapp the word formats or available formats and you should see what formats are available. Richard, what issues are you having with downloads in the overdrive app? Perhaps I can help. I use this app all the time. Sometimes you have to redownload if the download does not download correctly the first time. You do this in the files section on the main menu. Depending on your library, you check them out for up to 21 dyas and then they disappear and if you are not finished, you can put a hold on it and when it becomes available again, you will be notified and can download it then.
