RE: not satisfied with google voice apps.
Yes, but TalkATone requires a totally separate number and is a different service all together. When they lost GV support back in May, I dropped the app from my phone. It would be something even worth considering, but if you’ve already have a GV number, it’s probably not worth the hasstle. Besides, GV is very convenient with being able to forward texts and voicemails to your cell number or email address. What other types of features are you looking for that aren't already included in these apps? They seem pretty complete. GV Connect especially. Hangouts is now pretty good too. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Devin Prater Sent: Saturday, September 13, 2014 4:38 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: not satisfied with google voice apps. Hi all. So I have google voice. Over the years, I've used Talkatone, the GV app, and GV Connect. While GV Connect does have plenty of features, it does not automatically dxnload messages. The Google voice shows notifications but isn't as featureful as I'd like. I would use textnow, but my gv number is what people know, and its what I like using. So how do people use GV on iOS? BTW, voicemac on Mac OS works great for GV, which is how I know greatness can be done, but app devs just don't seem to care much, it would seem. RE: not satisfied with google voice apps.
Devin, One more thing, I trust that you are aware that as long as you do not initiate a Google Voice Text message from your iPhone, you can reply from your iPHone's native Messaging app and the recipient will see it as coming from your Google Voice number. So, here is the scenario: 1. Someone sends you a text message addressed to your Google Voice telephone number. The Message is forwarded to your iPhone which means it appears in your Messaging app. 2. Simply reply to the text message from within the iPHone's native app and the recipient will receive it as though it came directly from your Google Voice number. Finally, you can use this exact same technique to call someone directly from your iPhone, from within the Messaging app, and they will see the caller ID as being from your Google Voice number. Give it a try. Well, that miain thing I use GV for is texting. If hangouts supports texting using GV, and not just google talk, I'd love to know how as I'm sure that'd be the best way. When I use GV connect, I rarely get push notifications about when texts come in, even though I always have the app open. With the google voiae app, the notifications come in, but sometimes when I open the app, the text isn't there in the conversations list. Besides that, I can't just press space with e on the braille display to send the message as I can with GV Connect.
