I had that happen a couple times and simply used a small paperclip and push in
the hole until the SIM came part way out, pushed it back in and it was fine.
No idea why it happens. It happened one other time, and I did the same thing
and it never happened again over a couple of years.

It did happen to me once a few years ago. As I recall, I took the sim out,
powered phone off, put a friend’s sim in, powered it back on and it recognised
the sim - so I knew the phone was ok. So I took that sim out, turned the phone
off, put my original sim back in - and it was recognised. No
